All, please remember that there are several reasons to "derate" or lower the ampacity or current carrying ability of wires. Ambient temperature is listed in section 310 of the NEC. Yes, your attic or just laying in insulation may put you into this section. It might be smart to oversize your feeder wires to be safe.

So heres what we have going on. We have a main pole that has 200 amp service to it. We have a shed that is about 350 to 400 feet away and we'd like to install a sub panel to feed an A.C. and a fridge. I think I need a 50 amp breaker at the main box then run #6 UF wire to the sub panel which will have two 15 amp breakers, one to feed an outlet for the A.C. and one to feed the outlet for the fridge. Does this sound like the right set up? Also would I need to worry about voltage drop or would this set up enable The A.C. and fridge to run without fault even with voltage drop. I have literally just started to learn about all this in the last week. Treat me like a toddler when answering please. haha

Reading a bit around the net. This cable is rated at 90 degrees to get that amp rating correct? From what I’m reading, most terminals are rated at 75 degrees which brings the max amp rating down allowed down. Is that correct?

Actually, nec not in front of me but section 110.14, I think, talks about terminal connections..... PS. Please no grief if the 100 Amp limit is inside 60 degrees or 75 degrees.

Do we have to install ground rods for the subpanel if we install it in the basement in the same house...?

Great question, you'll never install more ground rods at sub panels in the same structure according to the NEC definitely work with your electrical inspector.

No, this wire cannot be buried as-is and cannot be buried even in conduit. However, it can be placed within conduit above ground.
