    @@botvidsson what light modifiers should every product photographer own? My first thought is snoot, grid for snoot, reflector and honey come grid for reflector.

  • @botvidsson

    @botvidsson

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@levicheffphotography531 Yes, No1 is a couple of reflectors with grid 100%. Maybe two strip boxes if you're into bottles. Snoot is nice to have but you can survive using cine foil. Then diffusion and some black flags and white cards to reflect light. That's it.

    @@botvidsson I was looking at the video "Hard & Soft light simultaneously".If I want to achieve an effect where I use both the lights but with a deep shadow should I make it dark it with photoshop? I've seen several photographers doing this kind of effect ( one of them is called Maurizio di Iorio, just to give you an example) but I'm not sure how to get to that point. Thank's

  • @botvidsson

    @botvidsson

    4 жыл бұрын

    Maurizio di Iorio often use a super small light source (HARD), that will make the razor sharp cast shadows. He doesn't, in general, use both hard and soft light. He do a heavy post processing in Photoshop, especially with the saturation to get the strong colors, doing this will help the shadows to be even darker. If you look at my video if would look kind of the same if I push the color level like crazy in Photoshop. The Soft light in my photo is just a reflection from the diffusion in the glossy parts thanks to my angle of the camera, if you look at Maurizio di Iorio photos he almost never use glossy props/products cuz then he will get a nasty highlight from the small light source, you will see that in a few of his photos. Not sure if this actually answered your question...

    Thank you very much, great insight !! I especially loved the idea to put the strobe above the wall lamp and light it instead, yet my personal preference would be to be warmer (1/2 - full CTO). I have a question: In order to replicate the sun in a tiny environment, where you don't have the necessary distance to place the snoot, have you tried the colimating lens - dedo- projection attachment to do the work? Is this jig able to provide enough strobe power getting through the lens?

  • @botvidsson

    @botvidsson

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Yes, it's fun to play around a bit I think, like the lamp thing. The Dedolight projection... yes it would give enough power, I think, mine is attached to this Profoto-Multispot flash and it's powerful. I'm trying to not use that Multispot too much because I know that many people don't have it. But as you say, I think that tool would be great for this shot in this small space. It's great to use for faking the sun light. At the same time you don't want to be too close so that the shadows fall off the quick. Ps. HUGE thanks for your support, I will get a big coffee today. 😁

    im late to this party by a few years! Great to see your ideas and techniques, inspriation for me with my product shoots and even people shoots - I wonder if I could ask your opinion which maybe of interest to the group also. I noticed how smooth and clean your images look and have been holding back going to full frame as was considering updating to a new model but sticking with a crop sensor for reasons of lens compatibility and budget and size but would you suggest that full frame will be a noticeable improvement in dynamic range, low light capability and less noice cleaner and sharper - is it really so different that I will see a very obvious improvement?

  • @botvidsson

    Hi John, I'm not an expert in this field really. It was a long time ago I owned a crop sensor camera but I don't think the quality is better on a full frame really, that's my guess. Saying that I highly recommend investing in a full frame camera 😁

    Hello! No, it's the other way around. 2500K=warm sunset and 10000K = super warm/orange like candle light. Did I say something else in the video? My misstake then.
