Do these things not have slipper clutches? I'm noticing that some of the trucks sound like the gears are skipping teeth. Due to the amount of traction and the mass of the wheels, I don't know if I'd feel comfortable running without a slipper.

It’s probably the diffs, if you notice, these guys are landing on power which normally isn’t a good idea with solid axle trucks

Well that's a very hard stunt to complete the best I have ever done was a stoppie that rode out a while. However when my MaxD is going to be finished I'm going to attempt a moonwalk and some other stunts. Tall order but I haven't met a match I can't take!

The trucks that compete in this Pro Mod and Sport Mod classes are mostly Tamiya Clod Buster based or some type of shaft-driven Axial based vehicle. All are highly modified, with parts from all kinds of various outlets. If you are just starting out, we would suggest buying a stock Tamiya Clod Buster or see if you can find a used Axial SMT10. The Outlaw Retro class are somewhat modified Tamiya Clod Busters. These kits can be bought at hobby shops or online.

Heard the SMT10 was discontinued but there may be some places that have new old stock laying around. These things look fun but well out of price range

Depends on how much motor you have but generally longer is better and more stable.

Thanks TK. Now I'm torn because I want to run a pickup body, which would work better with the SWB, but I'm going to run an 8th scale combo. Do guys run pickup bodies on the stock WB? Thanks again.

What kind of truck do you have? Bodies like the Chevy Snoop Nose, new Ford Raptor Racer and 2008 Ford Superduty by Jconcepts will work on a stock, long wheelbase SMT10. Various Pro Line bodies will work with long wheelbase clods. It really just depends on the actual length of your long wheelbase

Thanks again. I'll be building an SMT10 soon, and I will try to stick with the stock 13.9" WB. I'm also rethinking the 8th scale motor, and might go with a Hobbywing 3660-sized 4000kv instead of the 4274 2200kv. I've got the body sorted.

Sounds like the ring and pinion is stripping. I did that many times with the AR60 axles. Finally upgraded to Mad Force units.
