Since she mentioned the styling on the backup dancers, I just remembered a recent reaction video of a Korean Kpop vocal coach and dance coach and they mentioned that backup dancers barely get styled. SM tends to go the extra mile to make sure the backup dancers get styled well too.

I think to really understand how SHINee changed the industry you have to go back and look at kpop choreography (or sometimes lack thereof) from 2005 to 2010ish. Like It was a revolution~

SHINee's "Lucifer" was released in 2010, so this was more than 11 years ago. Taemin, who is considered one of the top two BEST dancers in the whole Kpop industry, is about 17 years old here, and as you can see, he was already an amazing dancer. As mentioned, SHINee's "Lucifer" dance practice was the very first dance practice video ever released specifically for fans. They had never made a dance practice video that wasn't just for them to watch, so to SHINee this was just a dance practice, it wasn't a performance video. SHINee is the group that started the dance practice video trend, and they are why dance practice videos are even a thing today. :D This was the very first dance practice video to go viral. Back then dance practice videos were usually only filmed for the group and artists to watch to help them remember the moves and to fix mistakes, etc. They weren't intended for a mass audience. But SHINee's company, SM Entertainment, realized that fans were starting to copy SHINee's choreography, so they decided to film a dance practice and release it to the public. SHINee's dance practice videos became so popular that other companies and groups started to follow suit and show off their choreography by releasing dance practices too. Just another way, SHINee influenced the industry and changed Kpop forever. :D To SHINee, dance practices are really just dance practices. They save their energy for where it counts, for MVs and live performances. They are experts when it comes to maintaining stable vocals while dancing 110% for hours on end. You will understand why this choreography gets so much hype, once you see it live. "Lucifer" is actually know as one of the most difficult songs and dances to cover because of its tutting and popping and for the fact that it has a very fast paced beat with dance moves that are very sharp and precise, which are designed to hit every beat of the song. And the song itself is very complicated with the songs wide range of notes and flow. This was when tutting was just becoming the new "it" thing in dance. Many amateurs have thought "Lucifer" looks like one of SHINee's more simple songs and dances. But the minute they try to sing the song and/or dance the choreography, they soon discover that it is way more complicated than they thought. It only looks and sounds simple, because SHINee makes it look that way. Check out this clip of SHINee teaching a group of actors and comedians "Lucifer" as part of a challenge on the variety show "Invincible Baseball Team," kzread.info/dash/bejne/YopklMWKp7yyfbQ.html. It's funny because when they came to meet SHINee to start the practice, Jonghyun asked them why they chose this song of all songs, and they said because it looks manly and they thought it was fairly easy to cover. But the first thing Jonghyun said to them, while laughing, was "oh no, actually it's one of our more difficult choreography and it took us extra time to really perfect it." :D Fun fact: As you can see, this dance practice was before SM Entertainment had their new fancy dance practice room that all of their dance practices are now filmed in. Before that new room was built, you always knew when it was an SM artist because of that iconic cloud screen. The cloud background in all of SM's most iconic dance practice videos is classic SM. So the members are: Taemin in the black and white striped shirt, Jonghyun with the tank top, Key with the side of his hair shaved, Minho is the tall one with the baseball shirt and Onew is the leader with the white shirt and hat. Fun fact No. 2: Taemin's shirt is an iconic part of this dance practice. He even brought the look back in 2017 in his dance practice video for his solo song "Move". The trippy feeling you get, isn't because of the video quality, it's just something about black and white strips that the camera has a hard time deciding what to do with the pattern. I have seen that same thing happen with black and white striped clothing and objects often in videos. The "Lucifer" in SHINee's song is supposed to be a girl who has devilish powers like Lucifer, who is trying to possess them and take over their lives. As the English lyrics say "Loveaholic, robotronic ... her whisper is the Lucifer." (If you notice, they are using auto tune because they are supposed to be "robotronic"-ly controlled by the girl who is "The Lucifer." So the auto tune is meant to make them sound robotic.) In other words, the woman or girl they are talking about is so desirable that she is like Lucifer and you have to use all your willpower just to resist her wiles. In the choreography you see them trying to fight against her powers and resist her attempts to make them bend to her will, etc. That's why you see all the robotic moves because they are showing how "Lucifer" is trying to control them like a robot. For example, they put their wrists together like they are being handcuffed to show how she is trapping them, and they vibrate to show how they are being manipulated by "Lucifer" and they are trying to resist her powers, etc. If you want to see where SHINee truly shines you have to watch their iconic performance of "Lucifer" Live in concert. To see them go full out and really blow you away with their talent, you need to see a live performance. Check out their performance at their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul from 2014, kzread.info/dash/bejne/eKFp0JqKYru1Y5c.html. SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. So when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography the whole time. SHINee set the standard when it comes to live performances. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach. Their live stages are like none other. Their concerts last 3+ hours straight and they perform nonstop and never sound out of tune or out of breath. They are also some of the best dancers in Kpop and their harmonies will leave you speechless. The part where you see the members pause and just stand still was Jonghyun's and Onew's parts. Jonghyun is one of the BEST vocalists in the industry, as well as Onew. During those parts of the song, they were just pausing or slowing down because at that moment in the song Jonghyun is belting one of the most epic high notes you will ever hear. A lot of SHINee's choreography is designed to allow for moments where the members flex their vocals. SHINee are some of the best vocalists in the business and they are known for, not only being impressive dancers, but having amazing stamina and vocal range. SHINee started the synchronized dance trend. And they made the industry realize that if anyone else wanted to compete they needed to up their game. Before SHINee, no one thought it was possible to sing live and still have impressive choreography, so in live performances groups either sang live and had simple dance moves or they had hardcore impressive dances, but lip synced to a backing track. SHINee proved it was possible to combine the two. That is why there is no other group like SHINee. As SM's experimental boy group, SHINee is constantly reinventing the Kpop industry. You will never see or hear the same thing, even on the same album. And with every new song release they are expected to come up with something new in both song and dance that has never been seen or heard before, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song and dance style will be. So when SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suit. It is said that within 3 months of SHINee coming out with a new song and choreography, you will see and hear that style being reflected in all the comebacks from every group, both boy groups and girl groups. So, after more than 13 years, SHINee has pretty much done it all, and yet, they still manage to set the bar even higher each time.

There used to be a saying "If you can't dance like SHINee then don't dance" It was such a different culture back then and I think it's hard for some people to realize that this right here is the reason kpop dances are what they are today. Because SHINee raised the bar and made what idols did before unacceptable in the industry. SHINee carried kpop on their backs lol

And SM decided to release this properly lighted dance practice video after shinee shared their replay dance practice which they recorded themselves (on their korean fan platform). It looked so amateur too, Taemin leaving the recording device on the floor and then running over... hilarious but sweet and sincere since it was to help fans who told them it's hard to follow the dance from their performances.

This changed the kpop choreo game BIG TIME! Shinee paved the way for a lot of groups nowadays who have amazing choreo and even special dance performances.

im glad you mentioned the female dancers! the blonde w/o bangs is SIMEEZ, part of the dance crew LACHICA. the other blonde with bangs is Rian, a choreographer from LACHICA as well. Rian is well known for her choreography for Chungha and Hyoyeon. The other female dancer w/ her hair straight/loose and w/ bangs is Noze, leader of the dance crew Wayb. another amazing dancer and choreographer. all 3 are seen often to dance with Taemin, Key, and Kai. as for the 4th female dancer i can't figure out who she is (and i dug deep) but i dont think she's of either dance crew. Anyway, those 3 female dancers are quite popular and trending rn in s.korea b/c of the show "Street Fighter Woman," an all female dance competition where 6 dance crews compete against each other. the show blew up lol.

I disagree about Key style in the Don't Call Me performance, the FEADERS ARE ICONIC! Key pulls off the most badass styles, all the members are very unique, SHINee is also known for being trendsetters with their fashion, music, and choreographys they Rock every single concept perfectly, this boys are just something else, very special, nobody is doing it like Shinee 💎💎💎💎💎

The Lycifer dance practice is actually what started the whole craze of fans watching the dance practices as much as the videos, the reason...you can see the whole choreo without the cuts of the video. Not to mention that Taemin will never live down that striped shirt 😅. The preformance for "Don't Call Me," there was a reason for the hats. Key (the one with the feather hat) and Minho (fedora/bare chest) had just gotten out of the military. As a matter of fact, I believe Minho had just got home 2 or 3 weeks prior to this. I may be off, and if I am, I apologize for my misinformation. Onew had gotten out the military a couple months prior, and Taemin, he was about to go into the military. He is currently in the military and from what I've seen he has gained 10 KG and looks great. He is working with the other idols in the military on a show for the enlisted. My daughter and I got a chance to see them in concert, along with TVXQ, Brown Eyed Girls, G-Na, and several other acts. At the time I was only aware of k pop because of my daughter. But that concert was amazing. You didn't need to know or understand the words. I had such an amazing time. And it my intro into k pop. One last thing, being a Shawol, I am so proud of Onew, Key, Minho, and Taemin. All of them have been the worst kind of hell. No one should go thru what they have. But they have been there for each other and I believe their brotherhood is even stronger then ever. I will always be a Shawol!!!!

Pretty sure the blonde girl is NOZE she’s really famous since Kai and Baekhyun albums dropped as she’s in a lot of SM artists videos and stage. everyone records their dance practices, 10 out of 10 was published accidentally hence getting deleted later, the lucifer practice was released with aforethought and intention because people kept asking for a steady cam version of the choreo. It is clearly also an actual practice, because it's not the final version of the song or the choreo, they are at times just marking positions but not dancing, and it ends on Taemin making a mistake, none of which would happen in the staged Dance Practice for Promo thing that is going on today.

Everytime I watch SHINee related videos, I realize that I have become old... Back then Taemin (SHINee) and Minzy (2NE1) were among the youngest idols and I was around their age.. Now idols are born 2000+ and I could be their auntie TTwTT sheesh... Where did time go?

sorry this is slightly irrelevant to shinee but the girl with the straight blonde hair is simeez of lachica! she and her crew are known for choreographing some of the most popular idol dances and performing with the top idol dancers of korea. you guys should REALLY check out street woman fighter, it's a survival show of some of the best female dance crews in korea doing battles and missions (of which lachica, amongst other iconic crews, participated) and it's so freaking cool. really makes you appreciate every single supporting dancer in an idol performance.

Old school lol. Lucifer got me into KPop, in 2012 - it debuted in 2010. I’m an original Beatles fan who saw Led Zeppelin in 1977. - also saw The Temptatios, & Ike & Tina Turner in 1970. So even 1990s stuff doesn’t seem so old to me, let alone something from twelve years ago- although KPop unabashedly is influenced by 60s/70s/80s American pop; & hip-hop/rap from all eras (70s on) I’m thinking.

I don't think lucifers dance being more fluent or smooth would make much sense, it's already more fluent when they did it live and the song is about being chained up and stuck in a relationship, feeling like you got no freedom, so I think the less fluency makes more sense Also I'm kinda disappointed in the choice in fancam on don't call me, I feel like there's plenty that gives better angles and showcase their dance much better, too be honest

She’s in Wizkids & Burna Boys video ginger as the main dancer (shown at 0:30) and she tours as a professional dancer for main stream artists and concerts with extensive training in dance if that answers your question.
