What he said at the end was true, they even expressed that they weren’t sure how DCM would be received, coz theres definitely something very unique about the whole song. But experimenting is what SHINee does best and DCM ended up being well received and is one their best comebacks!

Love, love, love it when Drew reacts!!! He always makes me hear things I never noticed before, and he explains the things that I already appreciated. I agree with another comment on here, please get him to react to some of SKZ‘s more complex ones like side effects, etc.

those noises at the beginning (1:15-22) are the sounds they added for the dance moves. SM used to do that in their earlier videos like snsd the boys and younique unit max step. theres others that you can hear it too but those are what i could think of off the top of my head.

As a production nerd, loving Drew's comments. Super interesting as him to point out how they made certain sounds etc. without just being a value judgement.

I love his reactions they are always so thoughtful and hearing things i never would otherwise. Im always in awe of musicians/producers who react and seemingly tune out the visual components like i would be so distracted

i think why DCM doesn't "settle where it should settle" is because the chorus is in a different key. we don't realise it's in a different key because the transition is so smooth, but the 1 in the verse becomes the 5 when you reach the chorus so you never get that really satisfying 5 to 1 progression, because when the chorus starts, you feel like you're still in this weird limbo between verse and chorus but godDAMN i love it so much

When I first heard "Don't Call Me" -- I kept thinking the neighbor's dog was barking but it stopped when I stopped the video. It has that kind of humming background. I also never noticed the staccato drum in the background of Lucifer -- both fantastic classics. Thanks for the reactions

Lol... I've always thought they added those sound at the beginning to give the impression that SHINee's moves are really fast. Like a sound effect you would hear on a kung fu cartoon or those old movies, you know? Anyway... Thanks for another great video!

But "don't call me" is haunting, and the fact that it's not your typical soft or even happy love song makes it so much better in my opinion. if i'm not mistaken back then they added like these extra sound effects into MVs to prevent people ripping the mp3 off it in album quality lol.. these effects are not actually in the song if you listen to the album. music streaming was not like today 😅

Taemin is now 30 years old. He hasn't had hair like in Lucifer for a long time. This company they work for has their groups, most of them involved in this weird theme. Their songs connect. Don't remember what it's called now. People who analyze should watch newer versions of these songs and preferably in concert because they always sing LIVE. They are known for it. i enjoyed ur reaction! i was wondering if you could check out a jpop boy group called 'king&prince' and their song 'ichiban' which is very popular in japan at the moment and will probably go down the history with its records and performance on japanese music charts! japan has very strict laws when it comes to copyrights so im not sure if it will get blocked but i think its a pity not to check it out

We did Venom together it’s on the channel.

I always found "don't call me" more of an NCT type of song (a lot of sections from different kind of music with not so smooth transitions, and a try-hard rap) not shinee's (which usually are much smoother and easier to listen to, i guess am getting old lol). Does anyone feel like it? It might actually have been written for NCT and then Shinee got it.

DCM was originally written for Boa. But she felt that the song would work better sung by a boygroup. Though it's different sounding then what SHINee is used to do, they themselves wanted to make an impact with their comeback and show that they are still in the game. I think it shows that they can definitely do any genre. I still think, even if it’s harder than their previous song, that it has some SHINee vibe to it.

Someone replied below that dcm was actually written for Boa but she didn't want it coz she thought that the song would fit better for a boy group. Not only that, shinee themselves said dcm went through so many changes the final sound and format was totally different than the first time they received the song. Shinee put their own tweaks into it until the song becomes what they want. I really don't mean anything but I'm just tired of listening how ppl think this is so nct song and how it seemed to be written for them and everything as if there's no way shinee will try to experimentally explore things and do stuffs ppl won't expect when those are actually what shinee is abt musically.

DCM is for BOA but she felt like it's better for a boygroup. During one of her promo vids with Lee Soo Man, Minho also guested. He heard the song asked Lee Sooman to give it to SHINee.
