But yeah, these are all professional chefs working in NYC, none of them are deciding if these foods are a meal or a snack because of necessity. But I'm guessing that most of the people casually scrolling through the comments of a high-end cooking magazine's youtube channel are not super desperate for food either.

That depends on your ingredients to make pancakes or french toast. The version I grew up eating? Not better than cinnamon rolls. What I make for myself now? Better than cinnamon rolls. Pancakes are actually easy to make nutritionally superior and still actually taste good.

Even growing up poor we always had Mac&Cheese or some simple veg with the hotdogs.. So I would say it's part of a meal to snack if you are _just_ talking about a hotdog. (especially just one)

Agreed, if you go through hard times, you take what you can get and try to appreciate it. But they at least admit at the end that their jobs put them in the privileged position to constantly eat a lot of food (especially of diverse and elaborate plates), so if it's not a really big portion, to them it's a snack or a sad excuse for a meal.

@KatieRouge That's because hummus is routinely eaten in the Middle East and in Israel as a meal. Hummus is used as a carb base like a bowl of rice. Or nachos! You put other stuff on the bed of hummus like spicy ground meat or shawarma meat or kababs, salad leaves, olives, pickled veggies etc. And then drizzle oil and sprinkle some paprika. So it is eaten exactly the same way nachos are typically eaten - fully loaded.

My parents never really cooked much, so all of these were meals to me LOL

I'm assuming they're talking about straight-up bakery cinnamon buns, which are usually the size of someone's head. I have endeavoured to eat a full one all at once many times, and have never succeeded.

@John Rankin You must be a real ightweight. I’d only understand someone not being able to finish a big cinnamon bun if they’d had gastric bypass or something. Also just because huge buns exist it doesn’t make that the standard. Cinnamon buns are a Swedish invention and the originals as well as most of the ones being made are small enough to eat multiple.

I think any of these could be a meal, depending on how much you eat of them and how you prepare them.

They said "Cinnamon Bun" and I said "Meal. Breakfast. Duh." ..."Anyone who thinks eating a cinnamon roll for breakfast is breakfast is out of their mind".. OH.

Pirogi, pelmeni, gyoza, pot stickers, siu bao, ravioli, tortellini, gnocchi. All count as dumplings, all easily count as a meal in the proper quantity. Never met a dumpling I didn't like... ... especially if she is my wife.

Okay I disagree on this. Dumplings by itself is a snack, but if it is eaten with other things (dim sum/ramen) it's a meal. Like, would you go into a restaurant and order a plate of gyozas/soup dumplings and be full? It's a snack.

It’s interesting to see what they’re defining “snack” as. I take snacks to be like a cookie or a bag of chips not like a slice of pizza or a plate of nachos.
