Privy Digs 2&3 at the old Farm Site

Last year we dug into our first of three privy pits we identified at the old farm site, demolished in the 1950's and came away with some great old bottle and other interesting finds! Finally back to see what mysteries lie in the two remaining ones! What will it be? Will it be full of treasures or just full of s***?

I apologize for being so far behind watching your videos. But I started today by watching this video. Years ago, I remember my ex’s family had outhouses at their cottages they would rent out. When they ran out of lye to keep the stink down, they would put wood ashes in there. I love the little glass chicken top. Once in a while I see them at thrift stores.

Thanks! It is so hard to keep up with watching and supporting other people’s channels so I greatly appreciate it! My parents grew up that way and my mother mentioned that they used that as well. Strangely, it seems that the deeper one was not used as a privy for very long as there was not much deposits at the bottom and then it seemed to be back filled with ashes and dirt after that. I’m really puzzled as to where the other privys are. There is a big gap in time between the ones I found. There was also a lot of movement of material by bulldozers, it seems, after the farm was demolished and could have buried evidence of depressions in the ground that would identify their location. Will just have to study the ‘53 aerial photo more closely for clues. Hope you’re able to get out on the lake soon! TC&ATB!

Interesting vid! I know of a few near cellar holes. Just never had the courage to start digging them. They are from the 1800's. You inspired me to try it this summer.

Oh yeah, get in there! 👍 These were the two I mentioned to you after digging the first one where I found lots of stuff including the braid of hair and porcelain doll head. There has to be more around there somewhere! The first was 1910’s ish and these are later. Found a trash dump with lots of purple glass much further back on what would have been part of the property when they were clearing bush for the huge baby formula plant that’s there now in the City’s business park. Nothing much intact though. Have more MD vids to put out from this past spring hunts there. Able to get any more digging in? TC&HH!

Hey man! Catching up on comments I missed. It was a fun dig nonetheless and I know that there’s always a chance that a privy is going to come up mostly empty. There must be others around there but have probed and not found anymore leads. Stuff’s been bulldozed around in places so might be hiding under some fill. At least one out of the three that I located there produced some bottles. Thanks and thanks for checking it out!👍😊

Thanks! Just the process of digging it reveals a story and is a lot of fun doing it! The first one did have a few cool finds even though broken. I kept the sugar bowl anyway cause it’s cool and I can put things in it. One good one out of the three ain’t bad! TC&HH!😊
