They're all about his "benifits"-housing allowance, "free" medical insurance, hazard pay, commissary privileges, guaranteed paycheck, life insurance policy. There's a joke in the military today how the strippers can "educate" today's military privates about all of these great "deals." These hot chicks have done their research.

Yes, but it could lead to inflation if it happens on a massive scale since the newly liberated countries would have to print more money to make sure people can afford things.

Remember that these were meant for most of the people signing up for the military back during WWII. To these folk, the terms of "appreciation/depreciation" or "supply-and-demand equilibrium price shifts" are those $2 words that nobody they knew used. Most of these people this short was meant for were only somewhat literate, if at all. These were people of the land. The common clay of the Midland United States. You know... Morons.

This cartoon is basically propaganda designed to get troops to “buy American” at the end of the war by getting them to save their pay during it. The funny thing being that if everyone returned from war with a big wad of cash and then spent it then there was a good chance it would cause inflation in the good ol’ USA. Economics is often pretty circular like that.

@@technicalvault Thing is, the cartoon's right. If you take more powerful currency into a less prosperous economy, demand for something goes up and supply goes down, and most don't have the means to increase their production like that.

It is actually both. It is the simultaneous devaluation of the currency stacked against a stronger currency coupled with the natural free hand of the market driving prices up due to insufficient supply and increased demand due to shortages imposed outside of standard economic conditions. Though in layman’s terms, inflation is the increase of prices due to the devaluation of a currency usually caused by increased monetary supply and decreased goods and services supply insufficient to satisfy demand.
