    Superinteresting! Just listened to Ken Griffin interview at Yale; would be interesting to know exactly how he became so successful! He said that when Enron collapsed he flew 20 people from his company to Houston and interviewed lots of Enron employees what they had done right and what they had done wrong. In this way he learned a lot about energy and commodities trading and mistakes made at Enron. He then hired the whole commodities trading team from Enron to Citadel where they made tons of money. You need a very strong talent for mathematics, spread sheet production and strong tolerance for failure.

    The first thing they should teach interns is that the Federal Reserve provides banks with funds to invest directly in the stock market, helping to maintain its buoyancy almost indefinitely. All interns have to do is close their eyes, pick a stock that isn't a meme, and they'll likely make money for the firm.

    How the fuck is McDonalds and Coca Cola not a private company? What even is a private company then??

  • @mr675official

    @mr675official

    8 ай бұрын

    Both McDonald's and The Coca-Cola Company are public companies, not private ones. Here's the key difference between private and public companies: 1. Ownership: - Private companies are typically owned by a small group of individuals, families, or private investors. Their ownership is not publicly traded, meaning shares are not available for purchase on stock exchanges. - Public companies have shares that are traded on public stock exchanges and are owned by a wide range of shareholders, including individual investors, institutional investors, and the general public. McDonald's and The Coca-Cola Company are both publicly traded on stock exchanges, such as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), under the ticker symbols "MCD" for McDonald's and "KO" for The Coca-Cola Company. This means that anyone can buy shares of these companies and become a shareholder. As public companies, they are subject to regulatory requirements for financial reporting and governance, and their financial information is available to the public. Please note that the status of companies can change over time, so it's a good idea to verify their current status if needed.

    Most hedge funds only benefit the GP and not the LP. Since they get their 2% regardless of their 20% hurdle return. Most hedge funds underperform many low cost index funds and only about 10% marginally outperfirm them. Even then we are not talking huge numbers put around 15-20% annually and probably only around 2-3% achieving that. They suck wealthy dumb individuals or family offices to make out they are investing in sophisticated products, using hedge fund term so uncle Rupert can look smart at family meeting as he drinks his pims and views his kids riding their horses. Jolly good old sport.

    You’re missing the point, Hedge funds don’t exist to consistently outperform any type of index fund, they exist to provide a more reliable return. i.e. reduce risk whilst keeping upside as high as possible. It’s literally in the name, hedge.

  • @dac8939

    @dac8939

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@khalali9319 That is what traditionally hedge funds did - to also short the market but now they do almost everything. For those looking to invest say over 10 years then you would be better not investing in a hedge fund. Hell, investing in Berkshire stock would be better. Most do not even last for 5 years. They make the GP rich and then bail regardless of doing well or not.
