agreed, but certain roles require you to articulate and give confidence what you are doing is right, so speaking well comes in handy (fortunately unfortunately).

Although retired MP Low of WP is not legally trained, he managed to withstand the barrage of questions thrown at him using his wits and wisdom. Low's famous phrase.' Ownself .check oneself' directed at PAP is amusing. PAP has always been an opposition killer throughout its reign.

Let me share a harsh truth of life. It's not about what you say but how you say it. In an ideal world, logic beats emotions. Unfortunately, we don't have such a world. If you know anyone that has studied communications, you can ask them. It's seen as a useless topic to study but the truth is quite the opposite. Being factual is not good enough, it's about being able to persuade people while being factual. That involves playing into people's emotions while being factual. That's a skill that is learnt and developed.

PAP has better oratory than opposition though and have political popularity. But their feel the ground policies sucks, Sg citizens don't have much future if they dont succeed in life. Lacking health and career retrenchment safeguards is a key issue in SG, and they say "Oh cannot must save more for next generation", but u already have shortage of marriage and babies so there is less next generation. A successful country is when non-performing and successful citizens live their life happily under security and bliss.

Even in my personal circle, literally only a handful have children. They are almost on their own because everyone else is childless. So, they don't have many people that can relate to their lifestyle.

Being the singapore record first Voted Out Minister of the PAP, how does GY feel ? I feel ashamed for him. Its in the record books for eternity. How about we buy the internet and block all this bad news?

Sorry to say I am not on the same boat. So far I prefer Wong as successor because he sets expectations across the board, like how future elections from now will definitely be more contested.

PAP or infact any other parties are run by human beings . Nobody is perfect . But PAP is using money to buy hearts under the guise of aiding . My saying is if you feed a fish , you will have to feed it for it's entire life till death . For how long can it be sustained ? For how long can the government continue to bribe , I mean feed us ?

You based things on how policies are presented & how questions are answered . Bro , honestly ... If you know what people like to hear , you surely answer the questions according to what they like to hear . It's human nature for people to like to only hear what they like to hear . Yes , PAP in most people's heart cannot be replaced . But why are there people voting for opposition party ? Anything is possible especially when public desires are ignored and things are taken for granted.

There is no need to out-speak any one. Just take care of the country to a higher level of economic growth with peace and harmony among the many different races, languages religions etc., etc. Most of us citizens of Singapore are matured enough to know who are the capable ones who love the country and the people's from a few who just want to make a show of themselves. From my own obsession all these 60years or so by the PAP, there are some good and responsible opposition members who talk sense and supportive of the PAP government

Attend 'Toast master' club for practical experience. Throw yourself into the ring and withstand any question thrown at you using your wits. Got to be quick minded to articulate your thoughts across. The demised Jeyaretnam once an MP stood well in parliament to pose killer question at the PAP regime in parliament. Its a delight seeing how how he presents himself. SP leader, Mr Chee is also quite good in his debate.

While only a little bit of Obama's book ("The Promised Land") focuses on public speaking, I think it's worth a read. Besides that, Peggy Noonan's book "On Speaking Well" is pretty good. On a somewhat different topic, I liked Roger Fisher and William Ury's "Getting to Yes".

Non-Singaporean here, but heavily invested in Singaporean politics as I look up to both how your government and opposition parties conduct themselves. I think the greatest thing that Mr LHL did here is that in his exchange with LTK, he ended up making the latter support the oft-repeated stereotype that the WP is just "PAP-lite." Obviously, this isn't the case - there are points where WP diverges in terms of policy, but by asking fundamental questions and cornering LTK, LHL made his party look substandard - at least in this exchange. Again, not a criticism of the WP or Mr LTK. I'm aware that the latter has done so much for Singapore during his tenure as de-facto opposition leader, but this shows how much Mr LHL has mastered the art of debating. He displays his stance clearly, his arguments are very structured, and the 4G team will need to learn from his example if they intend to keep the PAP on the apex of SG politics.

We need our leaders able to forecast future and lead us on. Wong only know how to solve current issue and hand out goodies as if from his pocket! GST although 1% increased means a mee pok meal every ingredient increased 1%. If there is 10 ingredient = 10% price raise! Govt collect 1% = 10% or more. Totally no leadership foresight.

Yes Pritam is the more polished speaker. But in the things that matter much more: experience in governing, formulating and implementing plans and policies that benefit Singaporeans of today and in the future, maintaining high standards of integrity, Pritam falls way short. Choosing style over substance is foolish and I hope Singaporeans bear this in mind.

I believe now most Singaporeans know that Pritam is a backstabber. The tender from Sengkang Town Council saw zero applications from Singaporean businesses. How can it be not even 1 tender? It shows that even the businesses knew to avoid the WP at all costs to the extent that they didn't even want to do business and earn profit with WP. This video talks about PAP and WP. However, the editor failed to include another stakeholder, the citizens of Singapore. a.k.a, the voters. The Singaporean voters are very cunning and they are very calculative and opportunists. They are not stupid but shrewd as well. I recalled Mr. Tan Kin Lian talking about receiving a call from a motorist telling him that he was on his way to the voting station and asking to borrow a few hundred dollars from Mr. Tan. The motorist's intention is obvious but shameless. We have a big group of shrewd voters who don't bother with all the drama from either side but vote based on their own short-, medium-, and long-term interests.

I had always had a misperception that Gov cannot and must not be criticised. I felt is was Taboo. Now i realise my perception was wrong, i was thinking like a suject of an Imperial Ancient China Emperor system.

Whatever it is i hope Singaporeans will not dig their own graves by just opposing for the sake of pleasing the opposition. Voting is not a game of thrones! Its our lives and our living. Can the opposition contribute to make our lives better not in terms of words only!

He doesn't have the exposure, political acumen and capabilities of managing Singapore. In the world political arena he looks small. I think Pritam speaks better than him.

If this gain support during lky and gct leadership , I agree totally , no doubt , but take a comparison this present leadership is way much worst and u point finger at opposition just to boot lick pap brings disaster , sufferings and destruction to Singapore n singaporeans . During lky period out of 10 the score is 9 , gct score is 8 , LHL the score is 2 , really unacceptable is s worst and needs change badly , very bad.

Public speaking is important, but i prefer Lawrence Wong to LHL because LHL is just a good speaker without brains and possibly insidious motives. Don't forget the time bombs that LKY planted to destroy Singapore. In self conceit, he declared his own house sacred- this caused a rift between his iffspring and now one son is in exile. Out of LKY eugenics based policies, our birth rate is in constant downfall. So the facts matter and if citizens just choose the smooth speaker, they too are voting towards their own downfall.

@tanst7859 After investigations by the Committee oof Privileges on 10 Feb 2022, the Committee recommended that Raeesah Khan be fined 35,000.00 with Pritam Simgh and Muhamad Faisal bin Abdul Manap being referred to the Public Prosecutor for prosecution. A Parliamentary debate was held on 15 Febuary with the recommendation accepted.
