@@k.s783 I completely agree! I live in Philippines where it’s quite normal for us to have our grandparents live with us. I did find it odd at first why (not to generalize all of them) the US has this stigma/ pressure to let kids move out at such a “young” age like 18. I know some might say that age is not young but if you’d think about it, the brain fully develops at the age of 25. When I was 18 I was at college and was really struggling emotionally & mentally, and to not have the support and stability of family at such a sensitive age from transitioning of being a teen to adulthood would have been really tough. It’s not shameful to care for your family if they’ve been there for you until you become your own person to be independent. I do hope this prideful nature and pressure to have young adults move out immediately would cease but it’s been there for quite sometime. God Bless you and your family :)

Craig, when you look for a better job, tell the interviewer about your relationship with Galileo. They might not understand, if they have never experienced earning the love of a cat, but it is a big chunk of evidence for your sense of responsibility and ability to care for someone else who depends on you for his very life. And it is evidence for your connection to the rest of the world. Those things are not something that everyone has, and most of the misery in the world comes from those who don't have them, and instead, as you noted, want to take and break the good things others have. Very best wishes to you and Galileo for long lives and much love! You both deserve it.

@@bcaye Yes I agree! My one cat has only just stopped being a terror and she's turning 15 this year. Whilst her children, kittens were all the nicest cats I've ever known. But Mommy cat was a former Feral Colony cat who I domesticated as I took all her kittens when they were old enough to get looked over then adopted. I ended up with 5 which sadly is down to one of her offspring and her. She was a great Mom to all the kittens in her colony. She frequently took on another Mother cats litter because that cat was a party cat. Never took care of her kittens. I think she was the sister to Mommy Cat. Anyway they are all very different and must feel they can Trust you before they will come near. Also purfume or any heavily scented products my cats All Hate. Even the smell of the voltaren cream I use on my knees and hip!. They both Hate the smell and leave the room immediately. Flicking their tails at me as the leave, like their version of flipping me the Bird! 😂 I Love Cats!❤🐈🎉

I used to be a manager for a franchise Dunkin donuts. The owner had 45 stores so there was an actual HR department. As manager i would review applications and conduct interviews then pass along the info for the people i wanted to hire. They wouldn't approve hire for anyone with not just a felony conviction but misdemeanor and sometimes just an arrest with no conviction. Even stupid stuff like driving with a suspended license were a no go. Any conviction meant no hire. People who routinely suffer from that kind of insane job discrimination often times end up being the best workers because they know they can't afford to lose their jobs, even if it's only at Dunkin donuts.

Yeah-- We need something to force correctional facilities to actually correct. If that was the goal there would already be more of these programs. All kinds of them. But in reality a prison is simply a cash dispenser. The ppl who open them have no intention in rehabilitating anyone. Giving inmates purpose and reason wouldn't keep them full. This is the sad truth. This is the truth that ppl like us need to understand. We need to bring awareness to our peers. And together do something to make this change for everyone's sake. Can you imagine the improvement it would make in all of our lives to have real rehabilitation centers instead of crime college, oh-- I mean prison's.

There was a great tv show on BBC called Barking Mad where they help owners with pet issues - there was the one dog with skin issues where he had to be bathed with medical shampoo once a week and the dog started reacting, shaking, trembling, whining everytime he got close to the bathroom. The owners were worried as his reaction was getting worse and they were having trouble bathing him. The program expert suggested they desensitized the dog to the bathroom and anything else that would start to make him anxious - so they would take him to the bath room for treats and play. They owners has to wear rubber gloves when bathing him and the dog started to react whenever the glove came out so they suggested leaving a glove close to his food dish, the the owners wear the gloves when taking him for a walk, they ate dinner with the gloves on - you get the idea I’d suggest doing something similar with your cat’s crate - leave it in different places around the house, toss treats inside and allow the cat to come and go from it, put a cardboard box inside, set up his food dishes inside it

Nothing wrong being a loner. Iong as your’e in a good calming environment and especially with a cat. This man is as human as any of us, some just stay in their unhealthy lane forever. HE made the choice to evolve himself with the help of a feline friend. Others have it worse never developing half the wisdom he has gained. I for one am incredibly proud of him making this far with Galileo. They’re perfect for each other, both humble and graciously natured. In spite of their trauma. Galileo seems like a relaxed, happy-go-lucky kitty, & YOU made him that way. 😺 Thank you. PS: I understand wanting to visit old friends, but do not go visit when you're feeling down. You don't want to get enticed into trouble again. Only the best of luck to you, D.

Animals as helping therapy it's something I really love to see. I like how Craig's story changed with a real help and care. Some prisioners really need this kind of stuff to get out from take bad decisions and enjoy a brand new life little by little. Also I appreciate his mother helps him. I hope Craig still doing well day to day.

Craig, I hope you will read this. You're living proof that we can learn for our errors and choose to be a better person. It takes focus, resilience and willpower. I love it for you, your family and, of course, Galileo. Cats are very discerning beings. You earned his respect and his love. Massive respect for you, fellow cat buddy!

Something must be done to help these people transition back into society. I have seen videos where people who are released from prison face so much stigma and dont get any jobs to sustain themselves, they dont have a supportive family members - all this could cause them to relapse into negative thinking, negative habits and land them back in jail. So glad to see this person doing well. Cats and pets in general bring out the positive within us and they really save the human soul that way. He should get another cat to give Galileo company. Moreover, two cats are double the fun. I really hope he gets a stable source of income to sustain himself and lead a happy life.

it is better to be a loner than hang around with people who are not really friends. Cats can be such good friends and Galileo is definitively a good friend to you. Wishing the best, including a good job and real friends who won't jeopardize your freedom.

My current kitty, a Siamese girl, came from the animal shelter. She wasn't treated that well by her previous owner and was shy. It took 3 months for her to finally decide that I am worthy of her presence. I'm sure she had PTSD (just like I'd bet Galileo had PTSD, too). I have known many, many cats and my Siamese girl is the most polite cat I have ever known. Yes, my girl hates the cat carrier.I ended-up buying a cart people use for a small dog and that works really well. When I drop her off at the vet to have her teeth worked on, boy does she sing. (Memories from being abandoned at the shelter.) The vet really likes the cart because she or her staff can roll my cat from station to station. She tells me that I was the first client to use a cart instead of a carrier--that I started a trend. She says that cats in carts are much more common; that at least one of her kitty patients arrives riding in a cart instead of a carrier. Also, it's great if you want to take a walk with your cat. It gives them a safe experience. They can meet friendly dogs safely. I thought it was neat when my cat met the police K-9. The police K-9 was a very handsome and very polite. My kitty was interested and went nose to nose. Then my kitty and the K-9 went nose to tail. The cop said, "I think it's safe for you to open the carriage. My kitty befriended the K-9. Sadly, a few months later, the K-9 got heartworm and didn't make it. Galilleo will keep Craig on the right side of the law. It's neat seeing Galileo help Craig heal his wild side and Craig help Galileo heal from being on the streets. Keep up the good work! Parole is tough, but remember this: Tough times never last, but tough people do. Stay on the right side of the law AND your PO. You've got a good head on your shoulders... you are smart enough and tough enough to make it.

I was happy to see the shelter placing cats with inmates as they do dogs. Over the years I've had some wonderful cats that I totally fell in love with. One of them was Sammy, king of the kitty cats. He was orange like yours. I still think about him. You and Galileo hang in there and take care of each other. The best of luck to you.

You, you are doing a great job with this cat!! Every day that you get up to go to work, or go out to look for work, just set in your mind that I need to make money to take care of my cat to feed my cat and provide a good home and medical care. I always joke that I go to work so that I can buy cat food for my babies!! I am glad you were building your life back in a positive way. If you do decide to make friends, make sure that you’re friends with GOOD people. People that are healthy, mentally, and want to work and better themselves. When you are around people like that, it pulls you up. And you realize the harder you work the better your own life is. I wish you the best and Galileo is beautiful.

I hope that Craig, wherever he is now, continue to find and expand his support network. It must be alienating and terrifying to suddenly be out in this big wild world after so many decades in the institution. With a felon's record, it's very easy for him to lose his job. Once he loses that livelihood and responsibly, it's only Galileo and his mom left, and being couped up in your mom:s house can not be good for anyone's psyche. He deserves to have a good life now after 50 years, as does Galileo. It would be tragic loss to everyone involved if he were to relapse. So having a strong, robust, integral support network is very important to help him stay on the straight and narrow.
