Prinsu Top Rack Install | Will it hold my Roof Top Tent?

Ойын-сауық

Ok, so this vlog is a little unorganized so dont expect it to be much help with your Prinsu Designs Top Rack installation. However despite being sick and receiving the wrong parts i manged to eventually get the rack installed. The idea is to be able to run our roof top tent over the canopy of the Tacoma for a little overland camping this summer.

    I wasn't aware those notches in the prinsu bars were a new feature. Mine has them and as I was installing it I was trying to figure out why I'd heard so many people complain about having to take it apart to mount stuff. I just grabbed a bunch of 1/4 stainless carriage bolts and hardware from home Depot. Takes me just a few minutes and a wrench to install and move stuff around.

    I love your videos man! Super happy to always get the privilege to watch them :) Very inspiring and positive always. I cant decide between a 4runner, f150 5.0 v8 , or a tacoma off road.. looking to pick up the 2020 version for the updated power seats in the tacoma. I love the look and capability, but damn for the same price the f150 has double the hp/tq/payload. In Canada new after taxes these vehicles are around $65,000-70,000 not including mods :(

    I was curious about this too, Can that cap carry your gear and everyone sleeping in the tent??

  • @tedhornstra

    @tedhornstra

    4 жыл бұрын

    Short answers, yes. With everything closed up and spread across multiple bars/tracks, the shell is likely fine, while the static weight capacity with gear and everyone sleeping is often higher/more capable when the vehicle isn't moving. What matters is dynamic weight, as in the weight that's potentially moving around when the truck is in motion, sometimes guys get into trouble when they load too much on too small of a rack. There are basic shells, and reinforces shells. Typically a reinforced shell is more ideal for head roof loads. But that's not to say the basic shells don't have the ability to occasionally run a tent and gear on trips.

    The Prinsu racks are very strong and light. My Prinsu rack has yet to bend from the use I've put on it. And also, you'll want the racks to be as light but strong as possible because you can only put so much weight on the camper shell itself. Got to be careful with those.

    They are not. There are canopies with steel frames built-inside. There is a real risk that the torque from all that weight getting slammed around over time will loosen the rack mounts as well. Here is a link to an actual tent-mount fail. It’s a totally different set-up, but it shows the kind of fatigue that mounts endure until they can’t anymore. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIOCrKicgLfHdKw.html Better to be safe than sorry.
