This song is a great expression of people's anger at corruption. You can try and work all you want but if you live in a corrupt system, having friends in high places is what really matters. I also like how during the song it goes from "I wish I had friends in high places" to "F*ck having friends in high places." Doubt this was the meaning behind it but still, cool to think about :)

Finally...a song pertaining to Lightning Dust Lol Season 9 rewrite: Rainbow gets herself into great peril without initially realizing and her friends are joined up by The Washouts to save her. Thus, Lightning gets a redemption arc

Man I love this, Lightning Dust blaming her downfall not on her own faults, but thinking that Rainbow got on unfair advantage. Really feel the bitterness from her point of view

One of the unfortunate things about the show ending when it did was that characters like Lightning Dust never got revisited. With time I'm sure she would have gotten her redemption episode like Gilda eventually did.

Absolutely LOVING this! As a non-brony, I'm glad it exists, if only to inspire such a fucking fantastic song as this! How can you not hit subscribe after that killer opening hook!

Fuck yes, this song is absolute fire i love everything about it, both the vocals and the score are totally badass, as always this piece was truly a joy to listen too PrinceWhateverer thank you so much for this, everyone did a sensational job putting this rockin' masterpiece together major kudos to you all!!! And as for Lightning Dust, my personal opinion of her is that while i think she was a good rival for Rainbow Dash, i also think that she did deserve some kind of punishment for her actions, maybe being kicked out of the Wonderbolt Academy was a bit extreme and sure LD was basically season 1 RD but even RD wasn't as reckless and irresponsible as Lightning Dust was, i mean after all RD's friends as well as the other Wonderbolt trainees almost got hurt and could've even been killed by that tornado but unlike RD Lightning didn't care about that, and of course LD pretty much committed child endangerment by letting Scootaloo perform in the Washouts show with absolutely no regard for Scootaloo's safety. Sure that was also partly Scootaloo's own fault since she agreed to be part of the performance in the first place but still...but anyway my point and i do have one. is that Lightning Dust may have been no better than RD was back in S1 and i agree that they could've given her a redemption arc which i would loved to have seen, but i think LD was better off just being RD's rival but those are just my thoughts.

Kinda funny people saw rd as reckless in this. No offense meant. Ld was lead pony. Rd was forced to follow her orders. And every time something caused trouble or could be a danger to others. She tried to talk Ld to take more concerns for the others. Her resining was the same as saying that she refuse to be part of this reckless behavior if it's allowed

The big problem I had with "The Washouts" was that Scootaloo was presented with what could have logically been a solid career - one which would make good use of her scooter skills and appeal to her daredevil nature, but not require flight. And then we got the message that that was a BAD thing. Meanwhile, Rainbow Dash strongly implied that she was expecting Scootaloo to follow her into the Wonderbolts despite having no excuse to think that that could actually happen (back in "Flight to the Finish", she was the one who helped Scootaloo realize that even if she can't fly, she's still special in other ways). Redeeming Lightning Dust there could have yielded a nice lesson in finding something worthwhile to do with one's life in spite of a disability.

@@hedonismbot1508 You make a good point, although personally I don't think the message was necessarily about Scootaloo wanting to follow a different path being a bad thing; but more that it can make you vulnerable and others may take advantage of you. I do agree it was a missed opportunity to have Lightning Dust get her redemption. When she saw Scootaloo having doubts a "What am I doing? Am I really going to put a filly through this for a bit of fame?" with a flashback about how she was (for example) being forced by her parents to go into the stuntflyer business and put into dangerous situations.

For real though, Lightning is and always will be such an odd case. How come so many antagonists that were arguably worse in what they attempted or achieved i.e. Sunset, Starlight, etc. given chances to become good ponies while green Rainbow Dash was casted off like this?

I-okay, yes. Let's talk about this. Starlight ran a damn cult, and then nearly fucked over the timeline for petty revenge. You can argue that in the case of fucking over the timeline, she didn't realize that the Mane 6 were the Fated Guardians of Equestria or whatever, but that still could've turned out horribly. Sunset tried to take over Equestria because...reasons. Hell, Discord, the fan-favorite and Fluttershy's future boyfriend, caused Pony Weirdmageddon AT LEAST TWICE. Lightning Dust, though? Her worst crime is not thinking about the consequences of her actions. Yes, people could have gotten hurt. Yes, her behavior was dumb as hell. But ffs she's not EVIL. How is _she_ beyond redemption?

@@hellspawnstudios She had a chance for redemption in the Washouts. But instead of being a good role model to Scootaloo she had no problem letting her do a stunt that could have killed her. If she didn't learn her lesson after what happened at Wonderbolt Academy; I'm not sure she ever will.

I feel like Lightning like Chrysalis was given a chance at redemption but she rejected it. That her crimes were relatively minor is the reason why she isn't a statue or locked up in Tartarus by now.

Cause if you focus on her too much you will see its another broken moral like maredowell. Since RD was helping the whole time... untill she backstabbed LD to be the only one to become a wonderbolt.

Because most other antagonists were subject to the strategy of "the best way to destroy an enemy is to make them your friend", primarily due to their incredible power/potential. You can't just stick somebody like Starlight in a cell, because that's just going to encourage her to go even farther in causing massive harm- because you can't kill her under your system of morals, and jailing her is a no-sum game that just kicks the can down the road (Sombra, Discord, Nightmare Moon), then the only option left is rehabilitation. LD, though a skilled flier, is ultimately just a pegasus, and doesn't have the power, ability or urge to do massive damage, and thus is low priority. She's drummed out of the Wonderbolts due to both having no connections and being completely unapologetic, and that would be that- though, honestly, questions of child endangerment abound in her second appearance.

Hot damn, this song slaps! I hadn't even considered that Lightning Dust and RD were practically the same, but Lightning was never given the opportunity to rise higher.

Ever since Lightning Dust’s debut, I always thought she got cheated out of being in the WonderBolts by RD, so I’m definitely for this song and it’s message. Nice work Princewhateverer ^w^

Legit every RD centric episode has the moral be that betrayal is loyalty. She betrayed Gilda, Lightning Dust, maredowell betrayed her and all these are portrayed as the 'loyal' thing to do.

@@ArchivedFox A choice made between different loyalties isn't the same thing as betraying a loyalty so long as the highest ranging priority loyalties remain the same. I'm very loyal to my work buddies, but if I get two calls about people in car accidents, and one of them is my work buddy, but the other is a close family member, then I'm going to prioritize the family member. That would not be a betrayal, that would be bad circumstances leading to unpleasant choices.

Reminds me of Fly Away by 4everfreebrony and Blackened Blue, painting both RD and LD as so alike, having LD show what might have happened if RD cared less about her friends and more about herself. But I fell like LD was not given enough chances, she messed up but so has RD. She could have been a lot more than just another unredeemed 'villain'.

It still bothers me that they cut out Lightning Dust and how that episode ended, it wasn't supposed to be her being kicked out, as much as demoted and learning being the best at the expense of others isn't the right way to be. She was a lot like Season 1 RD, that need to be the best, even at the expense of others, cocky and brash, because she had the skills to back it up, but how that isn't everything. Really good song though, really like Lightning Dust

Ah yes is finally out! A song i have been looking forward to listen to and i love it! :D

Holy SHIT, this was so GOOD! Especially since that I got so addicted to the game Scoot Hard DX, and Lightning Dust is the main atagonist in it as Maimbow Undash. Its made me see Lightning Dust in a new light and appreciate her for once, since I used to love to hate her even though Rainbow Dash is still my best pony/waifu. As much as I love RD the most as my waifu, I can see where Lightning Dust is coming from, and I can understand now how she must have felt after my waifu got her kicked out of the Wonderbolts, and stopped her own Wonderbolts, the Washouts. I can only imagine how hurt she must be from everything...

That was an amazing work! I'm speechless!

This is just amazing. I think my favorite lyrics of the song are: See you painting the sky rainbow, While I live in monochrome. You definitely covered over Lightning Dust and Rainbow Dash in a way I was shocked by.

Lightning Dust just made a mistake during Wonderbolts Academy. She let her ambitions go too far. But that's not it. Everyone can make mistakes. The real error she made, was not taking any lessons, but instead seeking revenge. What I adore in MLP is many characters, many personalities. Someone similar, someone totally different. For comparison, Starlight Glimmer did much worse sins, yet finally, she got her arrogance down. But, as we know, Lightning Dust just finished not much better than Chrysalis. Both of them were making terrible decisions, sins, and both of them refused to admit: "Yes, I made a mistake. I need to calm down". And one of them got stoned.

I feel like another problem is that she nearly got RD’s friends killed. Even if she did repent, the WB might get severe backlash for letting a dangerous pony join, esp since one of the ponies she nearly injured was one of the princesses. Still sucks though, why didn’t Spitfire continue working on Lightning instead of pretty much ditching her when it became clear training her was going to be a bit tougher than usual? #LightningDeservesBetter

Lightning Dust having a decent point or two about RD's luck in life, while still not realizing what Rainbow Dash has that she doesn't have in terms of good qualities.
