Prince was born Prince Rogers Nelson from Minnesota... he was first signed as a teenager and released his first record 'For you' in 1978, on which he wrote, produced and played all the music (27 instruments! 😲) ... He was very meticulous when putting live bands together to perform his music, and would rehearse endlessly w/ the bands he formed - Prince & The Revolution and Prince & The New Power Generation (N.P.G.) ... His whole life revolved around music & writing songs, and that affected his personal relationships... He was shy, quiet and music was his way of expressing himself almost entirely. He wrote so many songs that he would keep in a vault... much of it was never released to the public. He would also cultivate musical talents to perform on his records in the studio and in concerts. What made Prince a star was his showmanship... his ability to dance, perform live, and project a personality visually that made him an icon for decades. He was up there w/ Michael Jackson for his ability to entertain. It was sad that he went down the path of prescription drug abuse, which eventually took his life in 2016 at age 57... Prince also starred in his own movies, the biggest being 'Purple Rain' in 1984. Just a warning: Prince reactions may not be possible due to copyrights. His estate is strict on those. U could try live performances 😁 I can suggest a few Prince songs - "When doves cry"... "Sign O' the times"... "Kiss"... 'Purple rain'... 'Little red Corvette'... 'Thieves in the temple'... 🔥🔥

Prince wrote it... recorded it... gave it to The Family (vocals by St. Paul Peterson) on the Paisley Park label in 1985. Sinead then did her cover & made it famous. Prince reclaimed it by doing live version with Rosie Gaines. Then after his death we finally got to hear his original studio version.

All musicians did an amazing version of the song. I love listening to Prince’s take on the song as it was created from a personal space within him and has a lot of soul. Once you enter the Prince rabbit hole you may never come out. I’m a long time admirer of his music and have enjoyed all of his albums and 7 concerts. There was nothing like a Prince concert! All walks of life under one roof singing and dancing along with the man, his music, and different incarnations of an always impeccable band of top notch players. I would recommend Purple Rain live 1985 at the American Music Awards as I feel that embodied the song even more that the official video/scene from the Purple Rain movie which is also the version you would hear from the soundtrack (radio version). After you familiarize yourself with his catalog I would recommend at some point doing a reaction to the Super Bowl performance (2007) where he does a mashup of songs including Purple Rain. Or you could find Purple Rain (Super Bowl) without the other songs. Avoid the one by NFL that says ‘Downpour’ as I believe it has clips of people telling stories of how much it was storming/raining during the performance and in doing so interrupts the performance. A great classic song and official video would be ‘Kiss’ Also, a great showcase of his phenomenal guitar playing would be ‘As My Guitar Gently Weeps’ as a tribute to the late great George Harrison (including Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn, Steve Winwood) There is so many great songs, and each album had a different vibe, and many of his songs are uniquely different from the next, I could go on with recommending songs and videos for a long time but I better stop here. I’m excited that you have so much great music to unpack! Enjoy the ride, and thank you for the video !

Prince is one of the all time greats. Saw him live once and he sounds identical live to how he is on record. Truly a one of a kind. He supposedly could play 27 instruments and was entirely self taught. If you are gonna react to his songs, Purple rain is a must, but When Doves Cry is another killer. Oh, and there are two studio versions sung by Prince. There is the version he did which is probably the official video you saw on here and then there is also the version he recorded as part of the band The Family. Both versions are very different, and completely different to this live version. Worth listening to them all.

When I was a little kid, I hated music--- 'til I turned on the radio and heard Prince. He immediately became my favorite musician of all time. And here we are. Suggestions: EVERYTHING. One can start with "When Doves Cry," "1999," "Let's Go Crazy," "Baby I'm a Star," "Dirty Mind," "When You Were Mine," "Sign o' the Times," "Little Red Corvette," "U Got the Look," "If I Was Your Girlfriend," "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man," "Sexy M.F." (some of his songs were risqué), "Raspberry Beret," "Kiss," and of course any and all versions of "Purple Rain" (at the Super Bowl, GOD literally added effects). Suggestions for your movie channel: "Purple Rain" (the movie). And "Sign o' the Times" (the movie), if you can find it. Prince Rogers Nelson, 1958 - 2016, ☂

Two things. First, that smile at 2:40...that is an amazing smile. The initial discovery/understanding of the power of Prince. Second, as far as other Prince songs to react to...the list is looooong and you can't go wrong with any of them. If I were to go a little deeper (but not too far) into his catalog, "Money Don't Matter 2 Night" would be my recommendation. It's not the energy of "Let's Go Crazy" or "1999"...but that smile you had at 2:40...I get the same smile hearing "Money Don't Matter 2 Night". kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6F7uKOuac_RZqw.html

Watching you react to this song was so cute. Listen to Prince “When Doves Cry,” “Kiss,” “1999,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Raspberry Beret,” and of course his guitar solo with Tom Petty and others singing the Beatles “While my Guitar Gently Weeps.”

OMG down the rabbit hole we go... 🐰🕳️ When I was about 10-14yrs old, I listened to some r&b, funk, but mostly rock and heavy metal. Then a friend who liked a lot of the same music I did told me to check out Prince Dirty Minds and Controversy albums. This was just as Purple Rain was about to hit theaters. My mind was blown. I was lucky to see him perform live at the opening concert in Denver, Colorado of the Under the Cherry Moon (movie) /Parade (soundtrack). Then again in Denver for the Lovesexy tour. The final concert I saw him at was in San Jose, California for the Musicology tour. Phenomenal every time.

A song he done called Gold was good but personally would say his live performance of Purple Rain from 1985 is one more people need to check out. Took that song to another level.

Welcome to the world of Prince Madalina. Anything from Purple Rain is great. Also the title of one of 3 movies he starred in along with Graffiti Bridge and Under the Cherry Moon. Thieves in the Temple, Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette, Still Would Stand All Time, the list goes on and on. The man played almost every instrument he could get his hands on and his music defied genres and classifications. I hope it will be a welcome addition to your musical journey

Oh honey.... honey honey honey. I love my metal, rock, punk, and goth, but Prince... That man was a musical genius. Literally. He mastered like half a dozen instruments by the time he was age eleven. He also wrote a big hit for The Bangles called Manic Monday, because he had a crush on the lead singer. You need more Prince in your life. Purple Rain is mandatory listening along with 7, When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette, 1999, Raspberry Beret, and Let's go Crazy. His Super Bowl halftime performance is still my favorite, and he also blew everyone away with an amazing guitar solo during an all star jam of The Beatles - While my Guitar Gently Weeps for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Honestly, I prefer the Chris Cornell version. It being just stripped down to acoustics with his amazing voice just gave it a unique emotional and raw feel.

Princes first debut album was from 1978 Prince for you. it had some good tracks and they were played in clubs but the Gem was "i'm yours! how does a 17 year old walk into warner brothers studio and get a record contract in about a minute and 45 seconds? the man was a genius!

Each person gave something different to this song. They were all done by very talented people. I have to say that my favorite version is the Sinead O'Connor version probably b/c that's the version I first heard and heard the most of.

Prince's released music is legendary and his live performances often take the songs to another level. If you're going to do When Doves Cry make sure it's the extended video version. My suggestion is, and search for this exact term on KZread, "Prince - Never Take the Place of Your Man (1987 Sign of the Times concert movie)"
