my favorite fighter of all time. his run in the 2005 grand prix was the most amazing display i have seen. the next best run was jones in 2011, however in hindsight it doesn't hold up well because of all his failed tests. rockholds run to the ufc title was also spectacular.

I hear what yer saying but have to ask what technique is commonly used today that wasn't commonly used in 07 that woulda prevented Overeem getting KOd in the same position by the same shot if both were at the same stage in their careers today ? In this fight I don't think technique is the issue, I think its the self belief of Shogun & the courage to take the risk of throwing the big shot. Perhaps contracted fighters, in particular contracted fighters to a particular promotion that monopolises the sport, have little or no incentive to go out there, take risks, n make wins happen ?

@@kevthegoat8774as good as almost anyone. There's a LOT of skill in this fight. Being technical has little to do with making mistakes. It's weird to even say that tbh.

😮😮😮I've been a fan since forever... Really surprised I never saw this fight .The entire Rua Clan never dissapoints , All killers . On a mat or At the beach Rules or not , these men are true pioneers of MMA . Ninja alone has over 100 street scraps , mostly victorious. I'm going to watch it again , thanks for the post. Happy Holidays

Shame most fans only saw Shogun in the UFC. Don't get me wrong: still had a HOF-worthy career there, winning the belt and having those insane wars with Hendo. But Shogun was a different animal before he fucked up his knees, when he had quickness and athleticism.
