PREY Movie Reaction! | Predator | Amber Midthunder | Dakota Beavers | Dan Trachtenberg

Ойын-сауық

We watch the new Predator prequel "Prey" for the very first time! It's a wonderful addition to the franchise as well as being a great standalone film.
Prey tells the origin story of the Predator in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Naru, a skilled female warrior, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth.

    I think we forget Arnold was a huge muscular man andhe didnt beat predator with his muscles he outsmarted him. Danny Glover was a man and he outsmarted him. The female lead in this movie outsmarted the predator too. No human can go one on one with the predator in a fist fight whether they are a man or women. Not to mention the predator in this movie took a ton of damage the entire time before the final fight. He was bit by a wolf, bit by a bear, shot by some arrows, stabbed in the foot, stepped in a bear trap, shot multiple times by some trappers, stabbed in the chest, stabbed in the gut, and shot by more arrows. This was all done before the final battle so it was believable to me that she was able to win the fight. At least thats the way I see it.

    Would've been better for the film overall if it did indeed die trying to protect Naru. I enjoyed the film, but the dog just disappeared and reappeared at will at the most convenient times to the point where it was kinda annoying. I absolutely love dogs, but in my opinion it should've contributed more during the end fight against the Predator and died of the injuries it obtained.

    I'm not surprised, though. A lot of movies were released on streaming at the same time as movie releases due to covid. In addition, with The Predator's being totally lambasted, and rightfully so, I'm sure the studio had little expectation for a theatre release, banking on getting new signups for streaming instead... which, they got... since I had to sign up to watch the flick.

    In the fire scene, the guy grabbing the gun is telling her how dumb she is, how he's going to kill her. So her saying that she's going to kill him and he doesn't even know it makes the scene more powerful. Also their accents are super strong, and definitely Canadian.

  • @greyscalesx

    @greyscalesx

    @@robcad8236 Nah there were MANY more issues with the French they were speaking. 1. They were supposed to be fresh from France. Not only had some guys very strong Canadian accents but the majority just were native English speakers failing at pronouncing french, so who's speech was garbled. Clearly it's the equivalent of having someone read off a script in a language they don't understand, so it comes out as gibberish bc they don't know how to pronounce half of what they read. 2. Don't know who wrote their lines. Probably a french Canadian. Bc the lines they said, isn't how you speak French. Canadian french is basically french words but using English sentence construction or expressions that don't exist in normal french. As if someone put English to French in an early Google Translater version. Which makes for some weird or downright nonsensical phrases. For example at some point some guy says ''i got a bad feeling about this'' but in French. It made no sense. Bc he used the word 'sentiments' which granted means 'feelings' but not in the way used. In English feelings means what you feel towards a person but can also be used as 'a gut feeling, intuition'. But the word 'sentiments' does not have this. So when he said that I was like 'wut' ? Tf did he just say ? He has feelings for the girl ? Wait no he said feelings about 'it' ? He feels for her but calls her an 'it' ? Then I realised he basically used an English expression to say the situation felt off and bad to him. Basically I'm Belgian, a native french speaker and I not only needed subtitles to understand the garbled french but I realized pretty quickly that french speakers who didn't know any English would not understand over half of what was being said. Last example to understand better. I saw a Canadian man look at a a treehouse some other Canadian made and say ''Wow ça c'est une méchantante cabane !" Translation ''Wow that's a naughty cabin/treehouse !'' I was cooking and did a 180. I started lmfao and was waiting to see that other dude looking at him weirdly. But the dude looked like he paid him a normal if not good compliment, I was so confused for the longest time. Until one day it clicked. 'Méchant' means 'mean, naughty' in french. But he used it like English speakers slang ''mean/badass treehouse'' and just litteraly translated it to french. But somehow that sounds cool to Canadians but sounds like something a 6yo would say to any country like Belgium, France or Switzerland. Like some kid would have slipped in the treehouse and say it's a mean treehouse bc he hurt his leg lol. Anyways Canadian french is hard sometimes to understand bc of the accent but I swear on my life that's not the biggest issue. The things they say and the way they use words makes it sounds like somebody slipped you something or you're having a brain aneurysm. Sorry for the wall of text.

    @@greyscalesx "Canadian french is basically french words but using English sentence construction or expressions that don't exist in normal French." I wish that were true, cuz as an anglophone, that would have made my French studies in Quebec way, way easier. Sure, it's a regional dialect, but it definitely isn't just French words with English sentence structure. The slang is different of course, but it should be noted that the French had settled in Canada over 100 years before when Prey is set.

  • @greyscalesx

    @greyscalesx

    @@EugWanker ofc it's also based on older french. What i meant is that's how they spoke in the movie but it didn't even sound right. It siunded like they made English sentences & google translated it into English then made francophone canadians say the lines bc the canadian accent is unmistakable. Which makes no sense again since they are supposed to be frenchmen trading fur back & forth. Like this crap was incompréhensible & even when a canadian has a strong accent when they are subtitled like in a documentary, the language itself is weird but perfectly understandable. This was not the case here. Idk what's happened tbh

    Naru had a lot of "practice" but no actual hunting/warrior feats for most of the film. That's why the other hunters dismissed her. We see her fail to kill the dear and the mountain lion. She finally started to have some success with the rabbits but they are easy prey and not dangerous. She failed miserably against the bear and was almost killed. She only survived because of the Predator. Then she watched as three of her tribesmen get slaughtered right in front of her and she runs away. It was only when she finally realized what her mother told her. Hunting is not about oneself. It's about survival of the tribe. When she went to go get her dog you can see her face change.

This predator was also clearly young and learning his stripes. He failed bc he underestimated her. He couldn’t even handle her brother that’s why he has to cloak himself to win bc he was too hungry to win he lost all meaning of fair fight.

He had the physical advantage, but she had home turf advantage. Ultimately it was her cunning that overwhelmed him.

    I've been watching action movies since I can remember, all the way back to the early 80s, and I do not recall ever having a conversation with any of my family or friends about whether the male heroes were strong enough to do the things that they are shown to do. For some reason (I wonder what it is, so mysterious!) we just accepted that they could do those things, and we didn't question their physical capacity nor their physical prowess. And granted, in the early 80s muscle men were popular, but as the martial arts craze took over, men got increasingly less overtly muscular. And this eventually lead to the "everyman" action hero too. And yet still those conversations never eventuated. But for some reason today, we simply MUST have this tired conversation every time there's a woman in an action movie, about her physicality and whether she is "credible". You know: by the standards knowledge and experience of a whole bunch of guys who couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag and have probably never stepped foot in to a gym unless it was to use the bathroom. Very strange. And maybe it's the fact that I've done martial arts for most of my life, but I have no trouble accepting that a woman could thoroughly kick a larger man's ass, because that's happened to me many times from childhood into adulthood. And I don't live in an action movie. So imagine when that reality is transposed into the hyper-reality of an action movie. It becomes exaggerated, just like for every single male action hero. But we never have this conversations about them ... for some reason.

He was working his way up the food chain, and he didn’t seem to strictly hold himself to their honor codes: Killing Raphael, going invisible when he was losing, etc. The Director said he’s from a different tribe and the desert part of the Predator’s planet. That’s why he’s built leaner and has different features. This Predator was definitely not at the level to be fighting things like Xenomorphs.

    WE FINALLY HAVE A TRULY AMAZING SEQUEL TO PREDATOR!!! Don’t get me wrong, I really like Predator 2 and Predators, but this one doesn’t just beat them, it kills them, rips out their skulls and spines, and hangs them on its wall. Not only did it have intense action sequences, but both the director and writer managed to perfectly balance that tightrope of tension by both showing that this Predator is a truly terrifying and formidable threat while also not making him OP with his weaponry, thereby giving the people a fighting chance. On top of that I absolutely LOVED the portrayal of the Comanche Nation. Showing how they were and still are some of the best fighters, best horse riders and best hunters that have ever lived, while also showing how close knit of a community they are. I really loved how they went back and forth between English and Comanche when speaking with each other, next time I see this movie I’m watching the Comanche Cut where they speak Comanche throughout the whole movie. But my favorite part of this movie is seeing the story of Naru. She is honestly one of the most tenacious and badass characters I have seen in action or sci-fi movies in a long time. Taabe took full credit, even though he later admitted that Naru had weakened the lion and that is why he was able to get it on his own. This goes full circle when Taabe weakens the predator first and Naru takes him out. Also, every single person who beat a predator in the movies had to do so by outsmarting and tricking them because no human would be strong enough to take on a predator in hand to hand combat. Somehow, this never seems to bother anyone as long as the human winning is a man but as soon as it is a woman, all the men are like "Oh, this is not a realistic fight". Give me a break.

    I told my wife: I wish everyone in the world cared about me like they do this dog! 😁 I adopted a rez dog 5 years ago, and she is the best dog ever. Really smart, and loyal. I love her. There are over 300k stray dogs on the Navajo reservation. You can find organizations like RedHat you can work with to adopt. Well worth it, and not expensive. Look them up.

    Straight up, this was the first Predator movie I ever saw from beginning to end. I ended up thoroughly enjoying it. Amber Midthunder is a star in the making. Naru is very compelling protagonist. But, the Predator though??? The Predator though??? HOLY SHIT!!! This Predator was much more savage than any Predator I ever saw in clips. Yes, the CG is much, but I was okay with it, especially that bear. If this is what's to come for more Predator movies, I'm intrigued to see more. I was also glad to see the gun Danny Glover got at the end of Predator 2 appear in this.

    About the movie I just watched it and my rating is 10/10: If you're one of those who didn't like it and the whole reason has to do with the protagonist, I'll say that it's worthless because I can refute any criticism of her character from beginning to end. If it's because she's weak and killed the Predator by herself - It wasn't just that, since the Predator was getting hit in different ways throughout the whole movie, ex: wolf, bear, trap, whites, indigenous people, Taabe and only at the end Naru and Sarii ( dog) and with the help of his weapons. If it's because she learned how to use his weapon: She learned how to perfect weapons from all backgrounds from the beginning of the movie, was instructed on how to use the whites' weapon and saw the mechanics of the Predator's weapon (leisure) 3 times before using it against him. If it's because she was able to disguise herself easily: She from the beginning knew more about the orange flower that "cooled" the blood than anyone else in the movie (even her mother) and the mask's heat vision is just for body heat. If it's about her being able to rip an arm off him and not get hurt: She made the Predator himself rip his arm off and by accident and sure enough there were some broken ribs there when she got to the village and she was bleeding, tired, dirty, cold ( flower she ate before) and limping. If it's about her knowing how to fight the alien: She hunted a deer (and lost), hunted a "lion" (cougar) and hit a spear before falling headfirst. She shot a bear with an arrow and almost died, killed 4 rabbits, got out in hand and beat a Comanche, fled the Predator on foot, had her foot caught in the trap. She beat and killed 4 whites and only then used the swamp and the Predator's weapons against himself. If it's about not having charisma: She and Dog (Sarii) are a perfect match, I noticed that in Taabe's (brother) post-death scene, she wakes up with the dog next to her which reminded me in the 2nd analysis that it could be her brother her in the dog's body temporarily to be her spiritual guide, which would be normal when it comes to indigenous mysticism, she clashes with the macho Comanche, she kills the white man who cut her brother, taking his leg, letting the rats eat and the Predator finishes him off. And then she uses that leg to take him to the swamp. She ends the film warning that the village should change its place, because there were threats beyond the monster (Predator) using the whites' weapon to illustrate this when delivering it to the leader of the tribe. She is now respected as a hunter, warrior, and likely possible leader in the future. And no longer just as a gatherer and tracker as in the beginning.

    The scene where the predator throws Naru to the ground, I'll give that the benefit of the doubt and say that she landed in very mossy, soft ground which lessened the impact.
