This is a great pistol. I have this model with 10 round mags because I'm on a low cap state. I picked it up in 2015 and have over 24,000 rounds through it. It is very reliable.

The FN FNX series are amongst my favorite DA/SA sidearms. I also really like Sigs so everything is pretty much familiar to me. I am one of those oddball people who do not really care for striker fired. And my FN FNX .45 tactical is still my favorite range and home defense sidearm. I almost purchased a Browning I believe it was called a Pro 9. Which is basically a FN FNP 9mm. I trust FNH and I am confident with their quality and function.

I had a similar FN in .40 S&W. It was a heck of a pistol! I imagine anyone would be pleased with one. I replaced it with an HK USP .40 that is a nice piece as well.

FN makes good pistols, I like my FNX-9. They kind of dropped the ball by 1, not marketing it better and 2, not doing a FNX-9 tactical. The only major con I have is it’s Over-sprung and the mag release is a little big. I stopped carrying it when I noticed my mag release had been hit and my mag was partially ejected. I carry appendix. I think FN has addressed these issues with the 509, well atleast that tactical version comes with 2 recoil springs.

Have the two tone in a 40 and it's a heck of shooter and the size tones down the snap of the 40. I shoot as well as most of my 9s. It's my bedside home defense gun, have a Olight on it and the reason I chose it, absolutely 100% reliability. It eats anything in term of ammo and I like the double action for safety reasons. Cant go wrong with FN, their stuff is about as good a value you can buy. I carry a 509 in rotation and it too is superb.

As usual great job. I’ve been toying with getting a Hamer fired pistol. Was giving serious consideration to the HK P30 with the 3.85 inch barrel. This looks like an option. I love my FN 509m.

Own a FNX-45. I really like the fact that the FNX series has a decocker AND safety at the same time. The only other guns that I know have both options at the same time are the Berettas 92 and PX4 (slide mounted, which can cause problems) and some versions of the P30 (the decocker is a different control in the back). I’m looking for a hammer fired POLYMER handgun and I considered the Sig SP2022 (no safety) and the Jericho Enhanced (no decocker) and came down to the P07 (safety OR decocker, you have to choose one) or the H&K P30 (version 0 with the LEM trigger or version 3, DA/SA, both with decocker and safety). But now I’m considering the FNX-9 since I already own a FN 509 and the mags could be compatible.

@@justanotherdave7117 never heard of that, I will check it out. By the way, the 509 and FNP don’t have interchangeable mags (confirmed by FN via e-mail). I ended up buying a CZ P07 SR for the P10c mag compatibility and the ability to install a Cajun Gunworks trigger in the future. The p30 is compatible with VP9 mags, but I couldn’t find the LEM version and it cost a lot more than the Cz.

@@VincitOmniaVeritas7 I picked up a CZ P09 a while back but don’t want to change any of the internals as I don’t like doing that on defensive firearms. Been dry firing like crazy and going to the range as much as I can afford to, the da trigger is starting to smooth out some but still not quite where I want it to be. Does feel great in the hand though. Had my P95 for about 10 years now and still enjoy shooting it as much as when it was new, maybe more as the trigger has really really smoothed out over the years.

I know this video is a year old, but I’m eyeing one of these up now.. black and stainless like yours. I’m interested because of the hammer fired. My only hammer fired are a couple of Berettas. I have a 509 midsize and a FNS 9c and love them both. Would you think this would be a worth wild addition? My other on the fence purchases are double the cost.. the Sig p320 axg, Walther SF4, or the Sip P210 standard...

Try a "6 o'clock" hold - putting the actual target on top of the front sight (with the sights aligned normally) instead of covering it with the front sight which is typical of many guns.

I wonder how this would conceal. I’m in the camp that believes the fnx 45 to be the ultimate home defense sidearm, but it’s a big ole boy. It’s smaller 9mm brother is therefore an appealing proposition for carry in my opinion, especially with xl glove size hands.

Yes, I just purchased a H&K P30SKS V3 (w/manual safety) for CC. I like how this gun has the combo decocker/safety that gives you many options for safe carry, but it is just a bit too large for CC IMO. If FN would just make their FNS-9 compact exactly like this model - hammer, DA/SA, decocker/safety, ambidextrous controls - it would be a great CC selection. I own a Sig P320 compact (striker) and a P938 (SA), and I won't carry the P320 because it doesn't have enough safety features. I'm uncomfortable carrying the P938 cocked and locked, so I bought the H&K P30SKS. Good video, and it looks like this pistol is accurate.
