I bought an FNS-9 over 5 years ago. It is my first and only handgun I have ever owned so far. I love this gun. I gave it a name, Ebony. I can't bring myself to buy another 9mm. As a Veteran, I like this gun and I would gladly take into a fight.

Thats how I got mine...400.00 (100 bucks cheaper than my Glock) with night sites. With the rail, night sights, 3 mags ect. it was a no brainer. After about 300 rounds, the Glock was sold. And I like the safety. I trained with a 1911 so I like th additional safety that can or or not use...my Choice.

I bought this same Pistol for $300 off a guy my wife works with who is going through a divorce and needed Cash quick. I'm a Glock guy, but the ergonomics of this pistol are great. I got the box, 3 mags, and manual. It's the only FN and Two tone gun in my arsenal. I really like it.

I’m the proud owner of an FNS 9C and I love it. I have had the pleasure to take it out to an indoor shooting range and an outdoor range. I don’t know enough words to describe how much fun it was to shoot this weapon. I am a Marine veteran and I was issued the Beretta 9mm pistol and I loved firing it. The price of the Beretta made me shop around for a less expensive pistol. When I came across the FNS 9C, it was a no-brainer. Great pistol. I recommend it very highly.

Bought an FNS-9 at Gander Mountain (going out of business) super cheap. Never heard of them before this video that I pulled up on my phone and watched it in the store and I'm extremely excited for it now, amazing review of the pistol! As always +sootch00, I appreciate your safe handling of the firearm- clearing it every few minutes. Never hurts to do and is the easiest way to prevent accidents.

MrAutochamber My friend has the FNX40. What a great pistol. I have shot it and I Love it. Wanna steal it from him. ;-) I will be getting the FNS 9c within the next few months to replace my SR9c as my carry gun. I LOVE my SR9c and have carried it every day for three years, but really want something without a thumb safety. That trigger spoiled me though. Fortunately, the FNS has a trigger that's really pretty nice as well. It isn't quite my SR9c trigger, but with some breaking in, it should be close enough for my liking. Congratulations and good luck with the new pistol!

I notice how you spent an extraordinary amount of time talking about how the FN pistol feels in your hand. That is the exact reason I bought my FNP-9 several years ago. I went to a local gun show literally just to feel how several different guns were in my hand, and I must have held a couple hundred different models that day. There weren't really alot of FNP anythings there at the show, but there were a few. I knew the moment I got my hands on an FNP-9 that it was made to be an extension of my arm. It felt like it was born to be there. After that, I did some online research tolearn what I could about the Fabrique Nationale, Belgian made silly gun that almost nobody carried at the gun show. Seriously, who would even consider a gun from Belgian whether it was made in the USA or not. Imagine my amazement when I learned that FN Herstal is essentially synonomous with Browning and that John Moses Browning for Pete's sake developed a bunch of extremely famous guns with FN. The Ma Duece machine gun, the Browning Hi Power, and others. If they can make guns our military uses in huge quantities, then by God they are good enough for me to take seriously. Then, I found the review that nutnfancy did years ago called "A Sig For Less" or something very much to that effect. Since cost was a huge concern, I wanted something like a Sig Sauer, a Beretta, a Colt or a Glock, but was looking more at the Rugers, Tauruses and S&W Sigma guns. So, A Sig for less, huh? That's intriguing. Long story short, it passed the "How does it feel in my hand?" test with flying colors when hundreds of others guns at the show just weren't perfect for one reason or another. It passed the "What kind of heritage/reputation does this manufacturer have?" test. Browning FFS. You just don't get much (any) better than that. It passed the "What does the rest of the gun buying world think of these guns?" online reviews test in a huge way. I mentioned nutnfancy, but I read dozens of reviews, and they were all raving about how good that FNP would be. Lastly, I found a brand new one on gunbroker.com for $389. Oh dear God, where do I sign? I haven't regretted that purchase ever, and I am convinced that if the fir ever really does hit the shan, I have the right gun for the fight. In short, I am a huge fan of anything FN. I have no doubt the FNS will perform every bit as well as my FNP, and you just can't beat the value you get for the price you pay. FN is every bit as good as anything else you want to throw against it and better by far than most. Add in the price, and you just can't beat it. Although, I have no personal experience with the FNS, per se, I do know FN. If it has that mark on it, it's good enough for me.

The polymer SFA pistol market is so brand saturated that FN pistols are skimmed over to those brands that have the best marketing. Too many folks are too focused on what LE agencies and military groups are carrying without fully understanding how and why those pistols are acquired. The FNS line is a superbly functional group of pistols. Reliability needs to be proven with time. My experience in that regard with them has been comparable to that of the Glock. The only detractor I have found with these pistols is that of the cost of magazines. Aside from that, they rock! Good to see both Sootch and mrgunsngear together here working the FNS through its paces. I respect both of these personalities and the formats they use in bringing their videos and experience briefs to youtube, Thank you both fellas for the service and information you provide!

It is a great 9mm for CC or home defense. It is one of the best 9mm I own and fast becoming my favorite over my Sig226 and S&W 5906, etc. I would rate it a 10 out of 10. Love this pistol. I do appreciate your detail and history regarding the weapons. If my canik c100 upgrade of its parent, the cz75 pcr, ever fails I'll be in the market for another pistol; after 1500 troublefree rounds I doubt that will ever happen-lol. With 2 9s, I don't need another... Anyway, glad you Southern boys hang together..

Being a former combat veteran paratrooper with the 82nd. Airborne, your introductory theme gets my blood flowing. Standing in the door of a C130, ready to make my exit into the void when the green jump light finally comes on. Good choice in music, sootchOO. I own the FNX-9 hammer fired pistol, but I'm not happy with it. Too hard of a heavy pull in double action which throws my aiming off. Trading it is for the striker fired FNS-9. Excellent in depth review as always.

I appreciate your excellent review of this fine pistol. There is something about the FNH pistols that I really like.....made in USA, three magazines standard, high quality, etc. When you pick up the FNS 9 you get the idea that you don't need to add anything else - except quality ammo. While I still like my Glocks, SigSauers, Berettas, S&W and others, the FNH pistols are right up there with them. I just picked up the FNS 9C, and am looking forward to getting to the range soon. The folks at FNH say that accessories, such as spare magazines, should be available in their eStore by the end of June 2015. Take care sir, keep the great videos coming!

I borrowed one of these from a good friend and got to shoot it some. I liked it, very good pistol. Good fit/finish, good sights, nice trigger, good accuracy. The grip texture seemed rough to me. With a fully loaded mag there was a gap between the base plate and the bottom of the mag well. Over all I liked this gun, but the high cost of the mags would keep me from buying it as I like to have several mags for my pistols. Great review as always.

Funny story. I recently purchased the FNS-9 (traded in my FNX-9 for it) at Calabras in Ft. Mill, South Carolina. Being that I only live 45 minutes north of Columbia, SC where FNH's plant is located, I thought it would be a great idea to visit the plant for a guided tour. When I arrived at the FNH facility, nobody was more excited then I was to get underway with the tour. As soon as I reached the front entrance of the plant, I was met by two burly security guards who told me in a burlesque manner, no guided tours, please leave. Talk about a 2nd. Ft. Knox.

The fn pistols are incredibly well made and priced. Having said that at least for me personally, I had the fn 9c . I really, really like the pistol, but I couldn't hit well with it at all. I went to the range on 4 different occasions and brought the fn 9c, glock 27, Smith and wesson shield 9mm, hk p30 sk, glock 20. On these 4 occasions , I shot 2 inch groups at 20 yards with every pistol except the fn 9c my shots were all over the target, 5 inches left 3,inches right. 5 inches above , the occasional bullseye, you name it, I was way off. This was the same all 4 trips to the range using various types of ammo. Im an experienced shooter and was hitting well with all of my other pistols. Sadly I had to let the fn 9c go.

Thanks Sootch! I was one of those asking for you to review this great pistol. I absolutely love mine and like you said, when I held the pistol it just fit my hand perfectly. I also found the holsters for the Glock 17/19 will fit the FNS-9, so the "lack of accessories" isn't that big a deal. Mine has the night sights and with the 3 mags it comes with, it doesn't need any accessories except the aforementioned holster. This frame is the same as the 40 version, so you only need a 40 slide/barrel and you have 2 pistols in one. I was converted and I think many, many Glock guys will convert to becoming FN guys after they get a hold of this awesome pistol!

+Sean 24986 +sootch00 I tried Alien Gear holsters and really like them. They also can fit almost any common brand of pistol and the FNS-9 is no different. Both regular and compact versions and I grabbed their 2 holster deal (IWB and OWB). So for those on the accessories argument for the FNS, this should help with that as besides that, the gun has everything else. i.e. comes with 3 mags, 1913 rail for light/laser and you have the night sight option when you buy (and I highly recommend them) and now the holster argument can be solved. So if anyone is looking to try out the FNS but haven't for lack of holsters, check out Alien Gear and you will see!

I really love how FN feels in the hand, tried shooting the .40 at the rental range(9 was apparently in the smithing shop), and I couldn't make myself from shooting super low. And I mean really low. Im sure it's just me, but seemed like I had to concentrate far more to not pull when firing.

I purchased one of these, in part due to this review and I must say, this gun is a value and a performer. If anyone is looking for one in .40, Palmetto State Armory has several models on closeout for $359 plus shipping which is a steal. I paid a bit more for my stainless night sight model and absolutely love it.

For a while I was going to ask you if you were ever going to review this gun. It is a good quality gun and for the price it's a great deal. There does not seem to be much talk about it, nor do I see a lot of people go for this gun (they usually go for the FNX series). It was a fun gun to shoot and hope to purchase one in the future. Anyway, great video and great detail on the ergonomics!

I own the FNS and FNX both 9mm. The mags are not interchangeable. I started with FNH back 7-8 years ago. A great gun. A great company.

Another great review Sootch..A buddy of mine has one of those in all black and he loves it.. when I hold and shoot the fns, it reminds me more of an m&p than a glock.. just the beaver tail and backplate, plus the slide height, and no finger grooves, and hinged trigger makes it feel just like an m&p.. only a touch heavier.. Really great gun that is underrated, the aftermarket support is the only problem...

This is the first vid of yours I've watched and I was very impressed. I've subscribed and will definitely check out more when I have the time. Looking at getting my carry permit here in MI and I'm seriously checking out the compact version of this pistol. I feel spoiled as my first handgun is the FNX9. I am also very impressed and again feel spoiled to have fallen bass-ackward into a very decent gun. I didn't know anything about them and the sales dude assure me they were nice guns. I tested 4 guns(3 of which I had researched the heck out of and this last minute wild card) and went home with the best. FN fan for life. I love how your trigger finger before entering the guard has a great curved/ergo surface to ride.

Palametto sale as per MrGunsgear suggested on FB,369.00...in a moment of weakness I caved and bought it ,an FNS-40....The gun was OUTSTANDING,3mags,great trigger, great grip, best in class IMO and serrated sights.huge rails too, much beefier than Glocks..FNS is a top contender striker fired pistol without a doubt, ill line this gun up with any big brands...MADE IN USA !!!! FNS IS A WINNER.....

This handgun has an awesome feel and is great for a women's size hand. Was considering the FN 509 but decided to get this because I found a better deal and it's a tad smaller and lighter.

FNH is an unfortunate well kept secret. I have an FNX40, and absolutely love it. Best gun I own! I am seriously thinking about getting the FNS40 compact. Just wish FNH would release the 45 in compact, as well as the whole FNX double/single hammer fired line in compact! Come on FNH, step up on those please!

Sootch, I've been a subscriber for many years. I like your channel very much. Yours is one gun channel I can watch with my little grandson, and not worry about some little tattooed mall ninjas, dropping the F-bomb every other word. I do have one little comment. You use the word really, really a lot. You really do.

I have the FNS 40. If you pay attention when field stripping, you will notice the slide, barrel , rails & extractor are massive compared to other striker pistol brands. This pistol is built to last! Ergonomics are terrific & shootability is above average. This is the best kept secret around! Got mine for $299.

S, Great review! I love the FN 9's. I think they stopped selling the smaller one. I have had my Sig Sauer P226 since the eighties (love that gun) but always wanted another "9". Perhaps an "FN 9". FYI, I enjoy all your reviews and am better informed and educated because of them! Keep up the good work! CW

FULL AMBI!!! YEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!! Slide lock AND mag release - BOTH. There are only a few, and the manufacturers need to be thanked and congratulated. There is NO!!!! reason ALL firearms, especially pistols, are not full ambi. Other manufacturers are still living in caves and not going FULL AMBI! More than one in 10 people need left handed operation. MORE THAN ONE IN 10 - almost 15% depending upon where and when you count. And NO, switching components back and forth does NOT count nor does it help. When there are more than two users who may rely on the gun, it should be fully ambi, all the time.

GREAT vid, Sootch! I've had my FNS since 2013. I own Glocks, M&Ps, XD, PPQ and a VP9. Frankly, all are great guns...but some are a little "better". The FNS is definitely one of them. Like you, I think that the PPQ and VP9 have a little better triggers, I actually like the FNS a little more overall. I know that YankeeMarshall hacked on the backstrap. Mine fit's high and tight...no looseness at all.

I love the FN Pistols. I currently have an FNP-9 which I've had for years. It's an absolute workhorse. I've put thousands of rounds down range and have never experienced an FTE or FTF or any other odd issues. The only downside for me living in CT is that my FNP-9 only has 16 rd mags and we're limited to 10 rd mags so my mags are all I have... EDIT: 10 Rd mags are available but are expensive.

I've been carrying mine for 1 1/2 years now w/o a bobble. The round count is probably around 1200 including two NRA classes. I like them so much I bought another one to "keep nice" :-) I'm planning to pick up a long slide version if they ever start offering it with an upgraded competition trigger and adjustable rear sight.
