Hope you guys like the new series! Nation overview videos take a LOT of time to produce when you self-record/self-edit, etc. and I'm trying to give you guys the highest quality stuff I can, so I'm throwing this series in addition to the nation discussion series we already have going. Hopefully you guys like it, and I'm hoping it turns into a weekly thing where we can all have fun coming up with crazy ideas together, and making Pretenders that absolutely dominate the battlefield out there! Throw me any ideas you have, or nations you struggle with Pretender creation with, and I'll try to mention them in my next video in the series!

I think a good think to do is too see some mod nations and identify what is broken about them. Most of them are unbalance.(more then the base game)

@@skoub3466 Probably true. Unfortunately, my primary thing holding me back is time efficiency, given that I have to record everything, edit everything, and then figure that all out with my limited time, so including modded nations would not really help the average viewer who is (mostly) playing with "more" balanced nations (i.e. vanilla - even though this game balance really isn't even a desire) that they're going to see in every game. In other words: I would rather put my time on nations you will see available in EVERY scenario, rather than specializing in ones that nobody will see regularly, etc. Hope that makes sense.

@@AOReaper My point was not to do review on modded nation but more on identifying weakness and strong point to abuse on seeing units charts.
Fantastic breakdown, really good to hear your thoughts on pretender design! It's so difficult to give a good idea of all the nuances of pretender design, especially in such a broad term when it's not just about a nation, so nice to see you apply your mindset to a particular nation to give a good example. Looking forward to the second part!
Thank you man
Great video. The beauty of Dominions seems to be in its nature as a puzzle to be unraveled, to create sitautions where there is a relative power difference between you and your enemy, despite the “meta”.

EXACTLY! You get it! The purpose isn't to beat "an equal army"... the purpose is to engineer the scenario so that its NEVER a fair scenario. Excellent insight! Thank you for the comment and feedback!
Great breakdown! It really brought to light for me the fact that a templated build for a nation isn't exactly the right way to go. I will say, I find it amusing that you point out how silly it is when you can pick a badass god chassis but everyone goes for a piddly little mage, and then you promptly build a piddly mage rainbow bless haha

Hahahaha, right!?! Any chance I get I try and take Azi for Abysia and similar nations! I get to be a super flying freak of a beast, I'm not choosing some pile of bones sitting in my capital because its more optimal! I take pride in winning games and beating nations with more optimal setups, whereas mine is far more flavorful! Its a game, and we've gotta stop just before that point of min/maxing where it becomes scary (because of the work involved) or un-fun! Nobody continues doing something that isn't fun, so if it becomes a chore - pull it back!
This was a great video. I learned much from this- thank you for the banger content

So happy to help! And thank YOU for the comment and feedback!
Thanks reaper this taught me a lot about why 7 dominion score is better than 5 etc

I'm glad! I hope this assists with the more basic stuff for us, and explains the "why", so its transferrable to other scenarios!
"-so long as you don't get 80+ provinces!" And isn't that what you're going to end up having in the late game?
I'm new, but I split up my pretenders three ways. lean into your strengths, cover your weaknesses, and surprise them. Lean into your strengths as LA Ulm. grab knights with fortitude, undying and enchanted blood. Cover your weaknesses as Nifelheim? Grab Regeneration, Resilience of the Earth and magic resistance. Enjoy simple, tough sacreds. Surprise? Unbearable splendor (or fear) + charged bodies on vaettiheim...surprise?

Also, don't play the game. Play the players

Haha, that's the fun for everybody when they join, welcome to the game! We're glad to have you! Creative ideas like this are what make this game beautiful. With time (and more mechanics knowledge) you'll start to be able to turn those fun ideas into monstrous threats, and demand people adjust to them! Its a beautiful thing, and I'm looking forward to it!

Happy to help!
I never understood the LA Ulm obsession with vampires that some people have. I know they are immortal but you are getting at best a heavy thug with bad paths for buffing, and its even harder for them to solo provinces in Dominions 6. I much rather go scales. And 2CP mages with no temple and no research penalty in every province is rare and a big deal to go up fast in research

Also, with mount changes I'm not sure the templars are worth big bless at expense of scales. 5 MR on their horses means they can be countered by early mid game magic. For example, a couple of mages casting sleep or torpor will put the mounts to sleep and force riders to dismount, and if the horse retreats, the rider has to go back to capital and can get lost.

VERY rare to have, and I see you've dabbled with Ulm! I think the primary reason for the vampires being obsessed over is that the majority of players don't really seem to glance any deeper than "this is good" vs "this is bad". People HEAR that Ulmish vampires are good, but they don't understand WHY, so they aren't able to leverage them into a win. With Ulm vampires, specifically, their strength lies in the fact that it provides you a MUCH cheaper chassis for blood HUNTING (not fighting) that virtually guarantees you an insanely high blood income FASTER than other nations. You have a little more than half the cost removed, and you have powerful (albeit weaker than the normal spell) B2's that (with a sanguine rod) are all 100% B3 hunters who are FREE of upkeep, and cost no recruitment turns in your capital to recruit (just mage turns.... of which even THEY can cast with a booster!). It basically does the one thing every nation wishes they could do - make their blood economy "separate" from their normal economy, and speeds it up. Plus - they're one of the few blood mages capable (very much so) of defending themselves during a peasant attack :) The ramble basically equates to a TL/DR of "You get it, but here's my take on why" hahaha ;) Thanks for the comment and feedback! I'll do my best to crank out maybe a fun video where I show WHY people fear the Ulm vampires on a hardcore player sometime soon!

I love vampires with LA Ulm because they are excellent blood searchers, and can quickly get into mass summoning of fiends of darkness, creating unstoppable armies of fiends + everdark, and targeting enemy armies with horrible diseases and use succubi to streal their priests. also theres one vampire who starts with level 3 death i think, and can boost into death 4. i sometimes use gems to boost him again. at death 5, you can summon undead armies to supplement the demons.
