    Don't worry - I'll be having the "advanced" guide for nations, in which I'll be doing a format almost identical to those (without the emphasis on expansion, and simple things like setting up your main research mages). It'll enable those videos to stay closer to ~30/40 minutes, but be WAAAY more information on an in depth analysis of nations, and give you more tricks for your toolbox to play with ;)

    Reaper love the new format, thank you for the vid! Interesting, quick, but still very informative. Your video editing skills will soon rival your Dom skillset! :P It may seem silly, but the on screen text really helps distill a lot of useful information. I feel a lot of other Dominions KZreadrs are trying to get across similar things, but it gets lost in these titanic hour plus length videos lol. Anyway happy 4th man!

    Exactly what I was thinking! I'm hoping the short ~15 minute videos will break people into nations, and then I can make longer advanced guides where we go in and test stuff out, and discuss theory for a particular nation, and things like that. Glad you like it, and I'll be sure to keep as much helpful text as I can available, because it helps me (as a viewer) too! Love when I can freeze-frame something for my memory or to write it down! And happy 4th to you too!

    Hey guys! Hope you love the new video format! It'll keep the videos under ~15 minutes for us, so those looking for an intro to nations, and a quick "how to kick ass with" said nations will have them! I've sped everything I do up, with a LOT more transitions and edits, which doubled my time - but its a skill I can improve at over time, so expect more videos in shorter timeframes from here on out. Next video, for the benefit of a viewer who has been chatting with me: Pretender creation basics, and WHY I select certain things for each nation/Pretender setup. For my coming nations, I'm thinking Muspelheim might be fun, but I want to get to several viewer request videos as well, so we'll see what happens in the next few days!

    Thankyou so much man for the theory put to practice. This is why I love Dominions is these creative builds that when put to practice become quite strong. I suppose in competitive multiplayer most factions (including Marverni) only have three or four viable "builds" that give winning edges but in my experience I like to play with the default random map gen with my friends and just play whatever is cool or interesting. Ive been playing Marverni in a recent multiplayer campaign and getting kinda crushed by Niefelheim and Pangea from two sides and I didnt take a super strong build (i mostly went scales with resistance blesses and quickness) so ive been hanging on by a thread using my mages. I didnt realize how powerful those turbo communions are so im going to start utilizing that for sure! I guess I have a better idea of what is optimal for them in future, they seem a bit harder to play than some of the other EA factions ive tried.

  • @AOReaper
    @AOReaper2 күн бұрын

    Well remember: essentially ANY build will give you an edge in multiplayer. The only reasons builds become "meta" is because they are the "most effective thing available" at any time. Oftentimes, those strategies that you can use in MORE situations, rather than a niche few, are considered "meta" because people see them all the time, and see how many situations they can be used in. You're against niefelheim and pangea, so try and focus on your mages far more than your troops. Boars aren't going to help you against giants, or centaurs (bigger/same size). That being said, if you save up and position yourself to cast Army of Giants, you MIGHT be able to surprise Pangea in a huge pitched battle, in which they DIDN'T expect for centaurs to be trampled, but they are! Against Niefelheim: communioned Stellar Cascades are disgusting. The cost of the giants will cripple them if they fall asleep and you just chop them up. A fair fight is a lost fight, so knock those big boys unconscious! Against Pangea: Boars + Army of Giants will wipe out essentially indefinite amounts of centaurs and those Maenads. Make sure you're prepared for poison counters (that's the go-to vs communion human nations for them), and try to drop maybe even Army of Rats on them, to double the effectiveness of your Army of Giants. Otherwise, focus on those turbo communions, and knock them out as well. Fatigue murders berserkers and centaurs as well ;)

    @@AOReaper All good advice thanks! Sadly as we speak, Ive already lost that game lmao. Pangea beelined my capitol and took out about 90% of my mages in a single pitched battle using some clever scripting. I think he anticipated what I was trying to do. Regardless I learned a lot and it was fun while it lasted. And I agree on your take of "meta" in dominions, it seems to be favoring flexible builds rather than really narrow strategies (but that doesn't mean those strategies are useless, when the stars align they can be extremely busted) I thinkk thats why Im really loving Dominions after about 200 hours, there isnt a traditional meta as its understood in other games, too many nations, spells, troops, heroes, monsters, and other variables to account for. I guess the only real "meta" is to not make a stupid or redundant build. (Trashing you scales then putting extra fire resistance and ethereal on EA Ubar for example)

    @@ThatElephantSeal Aww, sorry to hear that you lost. That being said - losing is an enjoyable part of the process, and I'm glad you're partaking! You're learning from your mistakes, which puts you in the top 20% as far as I'm concerned already haha. Many players I beat over and over again with the exact same strategies, and instead of adapting, they resort to calling them "cheap" or "unfair". Just remember: there is a counter to virtually everything (ignoring exploits of course) in Dominions. Its an amazing game that keeps on giving, time and again, the more you give to it ;)

    Wasnt there some kind of calculation used for Dance of the Morrigans where the amount of Morrigans you got was based on the distance of the enemy from the edge of the map or something along those lines?

  • @AOReaper
    @AOReaper2 күн бұрын

    I don't believe so. If you read the end of the spell description, the more of them show up as "the ground is soiled with blood" or something similar to that. Morrigans, at least in history, are symbolically washing blood of the fated (to die) warriors, etc. so I think the blood is what summons them faster. In my experience, I've seen barely any of them show up when summoning them, and its like giants vs giants, and barely anybody dies, and I've seen TONS of them show up when lots of human/small units die, so I think it has to do with death, or at least damage dealt.

    Using a god you can break into air for 50 air gems and have a communion based mass flight for your boars. Late game you should try and break into blood as every nation and avoid too many boars late as anybody can just enslave them.

  • @AOReaper
    @AOReaper13 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the comment! Animals (of course) are always going to be vulnerable to MR negates stuff (even the MR easily negates like Master Enslave), but you have counters for that. Flyers set on attack rear, antimagic, earthquake cast early (goodbye communion!), similar things (I'm obviously being VERY quick with this if you need more detail: I'm happy to provide). Blood, despite some opinions, is not overpowered late. Especially not for nations that are NOT set up for it well. In order to provide the amount of blood slaves you need late to command the game, you're going to be paying crazy amounts of gold AND a lack of research for it. Example I can think of: 600 blood slaves costs roughly 4800-7200 gold as another player has already calculated to you in just gold losses. Not to mention the cost of the mages TO blood hunt, including the lack of research (close to 1000 RP for that turn alone)... everything in Dominions has a cost, and blood magic is no exception. There ARE certain blood NATIONS who are strong at blood late, mostly in the ways of efficiency, which helps with these costs, but it certainly is a vast overstatement to say that every nation should break into blood... that's simply not true. And keep in mind: you're talking to somebody who loves blood magic :) Still: appreciate the feedback and commentary! Sometimes strategies like these can work in singleplayer (the 50 gems to break into air is a great example), but often in Multiplayer, its just too expensive to pull off successfully. You're more often served better by leaning into your strengths and capitalizing by making your opponent's fight under YOUR conditions for winning ;)

  • @TTHJJD100
    @TTHJJD10013 күн бұрын

    @@AOReaper No that's fair. I just find having an ace up your sleeve to be an interesting play, especially for communion nations that can boost elements so well. I only say break into blood for late because it's easier to break into than other paths, as you can still gather slaves with inefficient non blood mages. This does have a gold cost as you said, but the path has strong spells. Not overpowered in any way. I especially like being able to put reinvig into communions so they burn out a bit less. Not necessarily a must have I guess, but for something you can do without any paths in it, you might as well try if you have the room to.

  • @AOReaper
    @AOReaper2 күн бұрын

    @@TTHJJD100 It is certainly one of the easiest paths to break into, but I would say one of the hardER paths to STAY in, if you have to break in. Your mages, every time you empower them in Blood magic, have a chance of being tainted, so you end up with some issues developing a blood economy that is sustainable from nothing, so to speak (and a LOT of luck is needed... we've all learned about luck from Dom 6 certainly hahaha). That being said: your line of thinking isn't wrong. I like the flexibility and the ideas, I just think maybe they fit a little better on particular nations than others ;) And don't forget - you mentioned putting reinvigoration into communions... in Dom 6, now, sabbaths and communions are completely separate. Be cautious trying to use our old Dom 5 strats in this new one ;)

    Great video! I like your idea of getting night vision, since you can use it to combo with darkness or twilight -> nightfall .. but in my personal opinion, I'd take poison resist instead of shock since you get shock res buffs natively and poison helps you against Foul Vapors, or fire/cold res Heroism is basically superior to def/att stat buffs because its cheaper and in practice usually ends up giving you a higher value after only a very short time + other benefits (str, mr etc) Also would be good if you showed the bless the centaurs had otherwise its kind of hard to gauge what you actually defeated, yes the chassi is white centaurs, but what does it have?

  • @AOReaper
    @AOReaper16 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the compliment! I love the night vision, and as you see when I'm facing a sacred (Vanhere) that seemingly has me beat, I can really lean into that Glamour to give me an advantage most players don't think about. Poison resist is great for exactly the reasons you mentioned, but I'm not depending on my troops hardly at all in this game, I'm using them as meat shields to hold off people while my mages dominate them. We have high enough base HPs (in my experience) that poison isn't an issue until ~10 rounds in, and so I chose to forsake it for the better scales. Whereas when I DIDN'T take it, my Fomorian Druid lightning spam CONSTANTLY stunned my own troops and drove me crazy :) And I mentioned the reason for dropping heroism: the problem is since our Sacreds aren't really that survivable LONG term, we lose the ability, and our biggest weakness with Fomoria is being rushed when we're fielding inexperienced troops (early). Fomoria is a force to be reckoned with if given enough time to get established, so heroism seemed to make my strengths stronger, and my weaknesses worse. I lost 3 MP games in a row to early rush Pangea/Vanheim and Abysia before I finally survived with the new bless, so I chose to ignore the heroism, as it didn't benefit me early enough. I do recognize the value in your advice, however, and with a different nation, I would certainly skew that way! About the bless: apologies, I believe it was +1 Morale (base), +1 attack skill, +5 PR, +5 FR, +1 Defence, +3 Str, Blood Surge, Spirit Sight, Combat Speed +30% and Heroism +105%.

You have to remember: other players will see that bless 1 time, and immediately capitalize. You're almost forcing their hand because if they DON'T hit you when you're weak, then they have to survive you when you're strong, and Fomoria is fairly notorious for weak early/strong late. Haha, alright let your friend know I feel like this is optimal ;) 1. Magic weapons is a GREAT idea. Helps a ton with your early sacred rushing opponent as MA Jotun. 2. Further investment into Thrymshirding is unnecessary: they're fine as is. 3. Instead: hyper focus on REALLY abusing turbo communions with your (err, HIS) Skratti and Gygjas. Jarnvidjas might be too expensive for this, so I would focus on the tried and true skratti + gygjas turbos. You can REALLY put the hurt on some people with essentially infinite fatigue spam with the right setup, and wipe out most armies fairly easily, including with huge battlefield wide blood spells. 19:37 As a noob who doesn't know what to do, what is the correct response to my awake expander getting horror marked and soul slayed by a bump?

  • @AOReaper
    @AOReaper24 күн бұрын

    If you have an awake expander and you get soul-slayed in a bump against another player, you need to report them for cheating and using a level 5 thaumaturgy spell in the first 12 turns ;) All jokes aside, if your awake pretender gets "screwed", so to speak, its definitely a downer, but you can pivot to respond by shifting power more into other avenues, such as research, or abusing "elf tactics" to "steal" provinces instead of straight up fighting for them. There are a TON of strategies, very nation specific, but if you started with an awake expander and they get horror marked/cursed/soul slayed, you really just want to use them when they're around, and then shift your resources ELSEWHERE, even if its sub-optimal, because putting money into a sinking ship ends with a sunken ship, and you broke. Hope that helps my friend!

    I found a great trick whit pan when you face low moral army in the late game army of rat + panic is super effective. I don't know how good it's whit MA Asphodel and the spell terror

  • @AOReaper
    @AOReaperАй бұрын

    Basically the same, only Terror (Thaum 4, D3) has a fear of 3, whereas panic has a fear of 1. Both are fear, so it still helps quite a bit. For an EXTRA special touch, instead of spamming Panic, have a Pan who rolled 2B, or (lucky) 3B, cast Agony right after! I think you'll REALLY love the results ;) The beauty of Agony is that it deals 1 point of damage to the squares it hits, so they're often instantly routed with that damage morale check!

    Im a noobish player, and my oh my those scales scare me haha. Does tanking your economy make this build pretty difficult for beginner players still learning communions?

  • @AOReaper
    @AOReaperАй бұрын

    Honestly: not really. The key to taking a hit on any dominion scales is to REALLY practice calculating out exactly what troops you want to build each turn (at each fort) and how much that costs you. Then you have a more specific calculation to make (i.e. "2 more berserkers vs +2 atk skill on each one, and +5 CR"). With the dominion hit I took on these scales, my calculations were very specific. Marverni (at least amongst the MP community) is fairly well known for a weak early game. You get rushed a LOT. Starting with an awake Pretender is almost necessary in that way, so taking less than optimal scales is kind of needed. In addition, taking a big bless like Larger and Quickness helps you fight off rushes because your sacreds can now compete, and in the future when you spend GEMS (not income) to recruit the boars of Carnutes, you'll be generating your pigs (sacred as well) for free = thus you won't be punished nearly as much for taking such poor scales. Hope that helps!

    Also note you shouldn't need to time storm power since you should be able to cast storm power before storm and it still works (the boost doesn't start until the storm goes up, but it should still take effect). It might make sense to delay casting if you have something useful to do first, but it shouldn't be a need. Cast too soon and you are waiting for it to take place, cast too late and you are missing time with the full boost.

    Oh my gosh you did for moria h. You are my favorite channel for sure now my middle friend. Now this is going to be done with talk to text and it Will be a wall of text but I feel the need to say my two cents first off, I really love the video. Thank you for doing it. I can't wait for the next video on multiplayer and then I will give my thoughts on multiplayer as I think they are, or at least where, maybe the most or one of the most powerful factions in dominion's 5. Definitely things are a bit different now with glamor magic and a couple of Nerf and buffs but still a very very strong Nation. So much to say. I'll keep it short on this to see what you cover in your next video, but as far as just basic things, remember all your druids and Kings are very mobile with air trapeze. Second, you need so many gems. It's not even funny because aerel mental spam and death gems for all things death. Also dance of the Morgans. Is that good I know it's late but do yourself a favor, script some army and then fight against a florian army and have them cast that against you with just any kind of bless doesn't even matter can be unblessed and they will completely shatter you. I mean completely. It's also worth noting that you'll probably want to put up wrathful skies and storm and you can just go ahead and summon our elementals keep flyers from coming in and killing you even though Ariel mantels will have a hard time trampling your Kings because of size and dance of the Morgans wind of death, wailing winds, etc. Total madness okay. This nation is insanely strong. I will talk about the multiplayer and the tricks later. You definitely nailed it on the heroes twice. Born them immediately. They are that good if you can get a way to get luck. 3. Do it. I would take luck 2000 if I could. The heroes are that important. Days of death is insane. Try it out. I would even spend the gems to twice born him. His leadership is also 300. Don't know if you saw that his son's leadership is 150. Nothing to sniff at. Also keep in mind your kings have sailing and they also have gift of water breathing. It's actually a really big deal. I mean a really big deal. There's so much to say. I'll leave it to see what you cover in multiplayer and then add more. I feel like I owe you some money for these videos. You should give me your cash app rock on my metal brother. This is the true metal Nation

  • @AOReaper
    @AOReaperАй бұрын

    Hahaha love the enthusiastic reply! Its VERY true that what you said is important. Sailing is AMAZING in the right situations, if you're playing on a water filled map... the only issue I've found is that most players tend to play on mapnuke maps with one or two water spots here and there, so I didn't run into too many examples where it factored in too big. Dance of the Morrigans IS an amazing spell, but at the time of Video 1, the 3 games I'd played in had ALL been decided before I could even reach the research for it :/ Having gone with a "long term" scales version of the pretender, I was punished for it, which I mention in my second video with my alternate version of my pretender (more bless emphasis - much more synergy + much more beneficial for the morrigans). And about the gems - Oh my gosh yes! SO MANY NEEDED, but that feels sort of the same with other nations, Fomoria just seems to need SO many gems from each path type that it gets rough sometimes! Thank goodness they're in EA! Thanks so much for the comment, even voice to text as it was ;) Love having it!

    I'm so glad, thank you for the kind comment! Eriu, definitely a possibility, even though they don't fit my style TOO much, they have some serious possibilities with the new fir bolgs they get in MA, and they REALLY lean in hard on glamour too. Would be fun to experiment and try them out. Tir na nog I have no MP experience in Dom 6, only Dom 5, so some of my techniques might be a bit outdated, but I'll be sure to try hopping into them when I can. In the meantime, I'm glad you like Fomoria, because my second video on them (basics) will be a lot of examples of "simple tricks" to use with them in combats, scripting, that sort of thing, and then I'm going to do a deep dive on one of the nations, a more advanced tips and tricks. Good chance it'll be Fomoria, but I'm kind of feeling the "How to transition a hell blessed Abysia into the mid/late game" style video hahaha. Once I've done that: it basically does all of the work for me.
