I started at fl studio 7, then in 2012 cubase,2019 Logic Pro x,2022 studio one 6 when it came out, I never going back to any other daw, I can do almost everything in studio one 6 that I use to do in the other daws and feels smoother and better. So far I got 13 of my producer friends to move to studio one and we doing great work.

Any of those 13 friends want to buy Studio One 5 then? 😅. Or trade for another daw or plug-in's with a transferable license? I bought a perpetual license last summer for $399 without trying it first. I even bought the S1 Toolbox add-on the next day for a extra $99, so it was a costly mistake. It does have a lot of great workflow features, but it just never clicked with me personally. Even if i was still using it, I wouldn't have upgraded to version 6, I'd have waited untill #7 or 8. There just wasn't a single thing compelling enough in 6. The biggest new thing was the video track, and it's so basic that almost no one is actually using it. There are free options that can do more (if video editing is even something one needs, wich many dont). Anyhow, If you know anyone who has the subscript and wants to save some $$ in the long run (or not have to connect to the internet to keep thier daw working), hmu. I'll take 150 or some kinda trade for Studio one 5 + the S1 Toolbox...& the Toolbox license comes with lifetime updates. I can list it on a site like eBay or marketplace with buyer/seller protections for peace of mind if needed.

Sorry to be rude, but this is entire BS! I'm producing since 25 years, started with Protools, them Logic which is never being updated to the standards of Cubase or Studio One in terms of workload, Then many years of Cubase, finally switched over last year to Studio One. I never had a DAW which is so amazingly thought through in terms of workload. MIDI is on par if not better than anything I worked with inkl Ableton! What are you saying about Ableteons Midi? You can't even split notes in the piano roll, try to quntize: pop up window for swing and stuff, it's super annoying. I'm using Ableton on stage, and this is awesome, in the end this is what it was made for. Studio One is an awesome DAW, it has a lot of Cubases concepts in it but does everything in half the time And the CPU consumption is very good!

Brother, I’ve been watching your videos and you always sound like complaining. I agree with you that Logic offers a lit for the money but it’s not anywhere, when it comes to work flow, compared to Studio One 6! It comes down to two things: - If it’s an issue with money, stick with Logic, it’s the best deal - Faster and smoother experience with great results but a bit pricey, Studio one 6 is the way to go. Just saying…

While I don't agree with you on all points, I do agree that S1 V6 was soooooo underwhelming. I felt they needed more virtual Instruments and upgrades to their current ones. Personally, I like the stock plugins, but their sample library sounds more like toys and amateur like. Impact reminds me of Native Instruments Battery v1 (no editing or fx what so ever.). The other instruments sound like the early general midi sounds. For pure recording and mixing, it's great, but for music production, you're better off investing in kontact or other soft synths. Don't get me wrong, I think it's becoming the new recording and mixing standard, but the stock virtual instruments need a drastic overhaul and a few more additions. Just my opinion.

They should fix some of the half-baked features. For example, there is no need to manage shared copies (try using more than one group in a project, you literally have no way to know what's linked to what). Another thing that irks me is the fact that I can't type in third-party plugin parameter values in the automation bar at the top, even though it allows type-in, when I press Enter it goes back to the previous value. Little things like that. The arranger track concept is utter crap, they added it just so they could tick the box that they had added a feature people requested, but it doesn't work the way people wanted. People wanted something like the arranger track in Cubase, which allows multiple arrangements. Here you just move chunks of the project left and right, and every time you do it slices through your clips and messes things up.

I had the exact same hesitations, super worried that it was going to lose features and get overhauled. Downloaded V6 anyway because I just couldn't resist the panning updates (they're awesome). Glad to say these concerns were unfounded, IMHO. Fact is Presonus removed nothing except for one insignificant function somewhere deep in settings that I can't even remember, but added so many great features, and the option to not use ANY of them if you don't want. They handled the CEO's concerns about novices by giving users the option of a more streamlined user interface, a few Smart Templates for beginners, and easy instructions (although there's still a full manual). Something to give new users a fighting chance at learning S1. It actually was nice because I was able to remove functions from my UI that I never use. So, nothing lost unless I wanted it to be gone, and tons gained. Anyway, thought I'd chime in and give you some good words about it. They just released 6.1 and it has some solid Project Page updates you'd probably dig. Oh and it has a custom color palette now too!

@@johndavidtice Yeah I went ahead with v6 also after 6.1 came out. Have used many of the new features already with a project I'm working on. I have had an issue with the dynamics on ProEq3 not enabling properly after a close, save, reopen. Support has sent the issue to development for a possible fix. Looks like the issue is related to my setup and not a wide spread problem. So far pretty happy with v6.

I tend to dismiss anecdotal opinions, but I do appreciate your efforts to share them. As I read through these comments, I picked up on a 'theme'. Quite a few people, including yourself, don't like the included instruments. Fair enough, but you fail to understand the software business model in the audio industry. For example, Presonus could easily development world-class instruments, but if they included them in the Studio One package, the price would be $1200+, easily. That would make about ZERO sense for them to do. The fact is that most people prefer to purchase class-leading instruments and audio for their preferred DAW. No one that I know wants to pay any DAW manufacturer for their 'instruments'. Third party instruments have been and will continue to be the standard. For those who put the effort into learning how to use the built-in instruments, they would find them quite useful and of good quality. But you and I both know that most people won't bother to learn, they prefer to complain. :)

Good points with Studio One... been using since version 2 after I bought their amazing hardware! Only use it for analogue.. no midi. The mixing of audio has been the best by far of any previous software (ProTools, Motu, Logic). The Fender buy is showing some signs of not keeping up with "pro" concepts, but will stay with Studio One because of the speed I have gained.. and switching is tough with hundreds of projects. The Mac/PC transfer is also great for sending things along! Hoping for the best to continue. Good luck with the channel.. Subscribed for future thoughts and reviews!

I used to complain about subscriptions but now I'm fine with Sphere. I don't know about their loops etc but I use Notion and the Presonus orchestral samples are not bad. To get a good DAW with a decent notation program with samples for $16 a month, sure beats buying. Studio One also has Sound Variations integration with my VSL libraries that nobody else has. I used to work on Cubase 5. Switched to Studio One 3.5, got really comfortable with it in about a month or so, bought Professional in a sale for about 250$ along with 2 friends. So practically got my license for about 85$.😀 Upgraded to Ver 4 and Ver 5 respectively in Black Friday Sales for dirt cheap, and have been using 5.5 happily. I totally agree with you that Ver 6 upgrade is a waste of money and I am planning to stick to Ver 5.5 until they come up with something significantly better than templates and customization option and other such trifle updates. Also, the midi functionality in Studio One feels much behind Ableton Live. That's why, I have a copy of Ableton that I use specifically for advanced creative midi processing if I need any in a track. The going back and forth in DAWs is tedious and irritating but I feel most comfortable in Studio One for the most of my Production, Editing and Mixing work. I guess, I am stuck with the Studio One - Ableton Live Combo for at least a while.

Enjoy your Podcast...thanks. Been a S1 fanboy since v2 and I am completely with you regarding their current trajectory. I"m still on 5 because I believe the producer/ digital creator is secondary for them now. When was the last time we got any kind of interesting creation tools? I think your read on the Fender acquisition is spot on. Having been in the tech industry for decades with plenty of M&A exposure, the strategy of the acquirer never really morphs towards the strategy of the acquired. And even if that was part of the "strategic plan" or the funding pitch, the corporate inertia of the parent cannot be overcome by the newly acquired company...especially in an emotionally charged field like music. My only hope is that they spin off S1 and let it innovate like it once did. Or make Greggor the SVP of product dev and run it as an independent division like we did with Xbox. Like it or not, the AI revolution is upon us. If they don't have young, innovative eyes and minds in the game, S1 will die a slow and painful death like so many other software products after a hardware focused buyer took them over.

I honestly agree entirely. I went from FL studio 20 and used FL primarily for around 6 years or so just as more of a hobby. I switched to Studio One 5 and immediately noticed the huge lack of stock plugins. While I was using Studio One I found myself having to go out and purchase third party plugins for so many things other DAWs can do with default plugins. I did some research and found out a lot of the things I liked about Studio One were heavily inspired by the way cubase does things anyhow. Switched to Cubase Pro 12 and I'll never look back at Studio One again. Just about anything I need to accomplish can be done with stock plugins while sounding absolutely great in Cubase. I should also point out I primarily make electronic music and trap beats.

@@joshuabutlermusic It's honestly insane. I've been using it primarily for 6 months already and still find new neat tricks the DAW can do every session. The only huge drawback is having to use a loopback method to stream the DAWs audio. Voicemeter is way too finicky so the only solid option is using an interface's loopback if you own one that has it.

Right! I started suing it back in 2013 when I worked at guitar center and got a free basic copy. It seemed ok at first but just not so user friendly. Since I was already familiar with fruity loops and reasons which I really liked that’s what I was comparing it to. Well, I find it extremely difficult to make songs with it, and songwriting had always came easy to me. So I stoped using it and started using logic, but my MacBook Pro broke five years ago and I could afford to replace it, so I started back using ver 5, and I’m having the same issues. The stock sounds sound like SHYT! And to me the ui seems cluttered.. it’s just not for people like me. And I play jazz piano, Lo-fi, jazz beats, r&b, hip hop, blues, soul, rock and some experimental type stuff that’s really has no specific genre name. But for beat making and hip hop, R&B type music studio one sucks major donkey balls!! 😢 The stock sounds suck, the impact section for drums is metered to high and if you’re not aware of this it will blow your monitors or ears out!! It’s a fycking pain in the azz to have to go to the global settings mute the individual drums kits one at a time and have to turn the volume almost to zero before I can audition the sound otherwise it’s WAY TO LOUD. Can you imagine how time consuming that is? And I can go on and on and on.. I’ve never had this much trouble creating music with any daw except studio one! I find it a chore doing simple stuff. And I’m a gifted songwriter, but I’m not compatible with this daw at all. I’m going to sell this one because I paid 399.00 and it’s not worth the money to me. So now I’m looking for other daws! Honestly if fruity loops ever got Audio down then I’d love to use that.. Any suggestions??? Peace and blessings’

Im using Logic too and for fast sampling and chopping im using my Maschine MK3. Some of your Topics are right. The Soundpacks unusable for me. Fat Channel are fantastic stuff with the emulated analog gear. Great and the reason for my subscription.Midi could be more better. Sure. Built in Sound Variation. Pro EQ can be used as a DeEsser easy and is btw no reason for choosing a daw. Great and easy way to create routings, bussing and so one is sooooo easy... and the feature of fader flip is awesome in great projects. The Split of Tracks and Channels are a great way.. and so on and so on... Im fine with my decisions. And btw. all the people I know - and it doesn't matter what daw they are using, have tons of 3rd partys - like Addictive drums, fab filter, keyscape, Omnisphere, spitfire, Kontakt and and... The Daw is only a host that made my life as a musician easier...

I normally use cubase and I really like it because its feature rich for midi and audio, but the only thing I'm frustrated with is that cubase has a hard time with cpu hogging virtual instruments. And I'm using a thunderbolt audio interface with a MacBook Pro m1 max. For example the Roland cloud instruments, the peak cpu processing in the performance meter bangs at 100% in cubase. But it only happens when you select the track with the Roland plugin on it. I have to set the buffer size as far back as I can. Where with studio one, the Roland Jupiter 8 plugin was only around 6% cpu usage with buffer size of 256. Matter of fact, it actually reduced the cpu usage 20% when I changed the buffer size from 1024 to 256. with cubase you have to record and use one virtual instrument at a time so that the peak cpu processing doesn't go to crazy.

I agree with most of it, still use S1 because it is intuitive and most times, when I just don't need much more than multitracking music live and producing songs. I never use stock plugins more than EQ/comp at most, and have learned to prefer portable/multiplatform plugins when i move from one daw to another (much easier!) so not caring about the stock plugins/samples junk. I also use Cubase, and it has richer features (when they really work...) but there is not one session where I don't hit an issue for simple things to do. I miss Logic, and stopped using it about 8 years ago because I was impacted by just too many bugs and also hated to have to update my OS regularly to get bug fixes, maybe it is better now? Moved to PC and may come back to mac with M2's just for having Logic again and core audio and thunderbolt better support.

So a monthly subscription to pick up or put down at leisure when it suits their mood is actually more practical for them, as oppose to dropping a coupe hundred bucks on something they might pay with maybe a total of 10 hours in a months time.

For some reason, Studio One runs terribly compared to other DAWs I've used. Plugins I load on FL and Reaper that don't consume a lot of processing are usually doubled in consumption in S1. No matter how many tutorials they make about the 'correct settings' for better performance, it still handles plugins like a turd. It's a great DAW but if I'm at 30% processing with only 7 synths when Reaper and Fl handles it like it's nothing, then you've lost me.

Studio One is renown for it's performance with 3rd party plugins actually. It sounds like you might be having an issue with your PC/Mac being poorly configured or underpowered. There are hundreds of KZread vids demonstrating how easily S1 handles an extremely heavy plugin load. Please provide details about your PC/Mac and the synths you're having trouble with. :)

Actually, I don't know. Protools actually does a lot if you really know how to use it. Having said that, I would not recommend it for making beats, or producing beats. It's just not the best DAW for that. I use a lot of outboard gear and record audio wave files mostly. So, I guess it really depends on what you do. Having said that, I have moved on from Protools for the reason that it's just too expensive. Reaper is great, I am just not the best at it yet. I still use Studio One a lot. It suits my needs.

Just chiming in about the CONSTANT issues with 6.1.1 This daw fell off after version 4.6 as far a s stability. 6.1.1 has random freezes that seem to occur after the use of timestretch or clip editing. Another HUGE issue is that certain audio clips DO NOT PLAY, causing me to have to start and stop the transport a bunch of times while working on a session. I put a support ticket in for it and they had no answer over a year ago!! I used to love studio one but how the heck can you have a bug that cuts out certain audio tracks for so long. Even a moderator on the facebook group had the same issue and this was over a year ago with no fix. Version 6.1.1 has exasperated that issue and I am probably going to bail if it is not sorted within the next couple of updates. My computer is a beast with 64 gb ram and gaming nvidia graphics card. There is something seriously flawed with the audio engine causing this. Timestretching does seem to introduce the issue and once it starts, it stays with session regardless of removing any plugins at all. Literally empty wave clips just do not play. I stop the transport, push play again and they play.. on and on.. sucks!

Wowzers. I mean no disrespect, but the Dunning Kruger Effect is potentially strong within this this rant. Now I will begin with showing my age by stating that I originally cut my jib on old school 12-24 track desks printing to tape, and then to ADAT before I fully started embracing digital, but seriously... Never once on a job back then did I ever trash on a cheaper desk like a Mackie SR24.4 after using an API, SSL, MSI or Neve. They are legitimately just tools for a means to and end? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I once re-sampled and remixed the title track for a Victory Records published multinational hardcore album release entirely within a dinky low spec Windows XP PC running a "destructive DAW" copy of Adobe Audition 3.0 using almost exclusively it's stock plugins. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That project eventually led to a modest early 2000's portfolio that earned my A.S.C.A.P. union member card. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If the hypothetical vehicle's potentially got enough gas in the tank to complete the metaphorical pizza delivery? It ultimately all boils down to the actual driver's overall skills... The fact that it's delivered in either a cherry ass Corvette or Hooptie AF El Dorado sedan is irrelevant as long if it's delivered in "30 minutes or less" and HOT!. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Toys are a dime a dozen. Resume is everything. My 2 cents. This concludes my TED Talk. LMAO! P.L.U.R. doggins. You did just earn my like, sub, and bell ring tho, Cheers!🖖

I suppose I never was concerned with virtual instruments because to me they all suck. If you didn't play the actual instrument then it's not going to be an actual instrument so it will never sound completely like the actual instrument. Even if you use samples there not always going to sound right. I believe you should play the instrument or have someone who can play the instrument play it.. What happened to where people actually had to have real talent to produce music. The DAW world has gotten to the point where any child can collect loops and put them together and never even have to understand musical education. mixing, engineering or production. If you think Studio One 6.1 needs better virtual instruments, there are millions of third-party instruments just a mouse click away. But what other DAW can you get that does recording, mixing, video and mastering all in the same software? I started Studio One with 5.0 and now at 6.1 and I was sold on it with 5.0 and it has gotten better and better. What other Daw can you contact with an idea that will help your workflow and they actually listen and add your idea on the next upgrade? If you want better sounding virtual instruments, ask for it and see what happens they may even help you with them. You are the only one I've actually seen leave Studio One. What do you produce all fake music or what?

The Pro EQ3 is pretty darn good and nipping at the heels of the Fabfilter Pro-Q 3. Really it tells me you just wanted to move to something else, and now making excuses for the move. You're welcome to run what you want, of course. I just feel like you're unnaturally reaching for complaints here.

I like the cut of your jib, bro. Real world insights. I've been drinking the S1 punch and I just bought S16. Cant believe their tech team doesn't know what SMPTE is. HOWEVER!!!.... I believe S1 is gonna be the new gold standard (PT sucks). Logic? ... I aint drinking that Apple punch any more. I came from Cubase, but had to ditch 'em. Spent time with Yamaha rep (during C10) and my rep said Cubase wasn't suited to handle multi-threading (multiple cores). I'm sure they've fixed that but all my rep could do was apologize. I've invested heavily in 3rd party plugs so I don't depend on S1 native plugs. BTW... If anyone wants to purchase my Melodyne Studio licence then let me know. I paid $1000 CDN. You just earned my subscription , and I'm going to repost this video on my socail media , now as far as Macs being better than PC's I'm laughing out loud thats an old story from back in the 0s and early 2000's when Apple had the Power PC processor's -G1s-G5's when they started using intels processors then it because a PC with a neater OS and that's when I switched over to PC because i had a hughe issue at the time switching from os Panther to OS X and my software which was Digital Performer at the time , I got a windows machine and never looked back no issues on my systems and what I did was stay on the working OS until it's end of life once Windows XP pro because solid I stayed with them until I needed a 64bit machine then I switched over to Windows 7 pro and was on it for ages with no issues now I'm on Windows 10 pro no issues , So expalin to me from a techincal point how using a Mac is better for audio in 2024? My machine I have now has 128gb Ram, 12 core Ryzen, and RTX 4090 gpu on SSDNVME2's , The M2 processors are super sweet but the OS is shitty and when they update it it's practly by force and all your plugins will not use.

But his stock plugins and Sounds are not awesome, are just decent. Compared to Cubase, Cubase is the best DAW in the market in that aspect, Give great sound, have nice plugin Effects and a lot of features, but the only big downside of cubase is the workflow, Studio One is just better. I only paid sphere for studio one to be honest, I don't use any of the other features.

Absolutely correct on everything. They have some plugins that are okay. Their mixer is great and useful for mastering. It's built entirely for live bands. If you're doing electronic music at all, get ready for frustration. They have NO midi controllers that are worth a damn. Their samples and packs are pure garbage. You want good things then you're buying 3rd party, period. I've had so many frustrations with this DAW it's insane. I don't want to be fighting my software rather than making music.

Why bother, just use your FL when you like it so much. S1 version 6 is a pretty good version with much better video support than 5. You fear, but I haven't experienced any abandoning of S1 by Fender so far and why should they, having a serious well liked, even by professionals DAW in your range, is a nice supply of customers. For me it's simple when they would go subscription only I would switch to Logic in heartbeat, I rather spend the subscription money on Splice or Loopcloud. Just use what you like and feel good with. Nagging about a DAW you don't even use anymore? That's complaining about your loud neighbours that already moved...

Industry standard does not mean standard of quality. It means standardized. Similar to standardized testing. The SAT is the standard college entrace exam. Doesnt mean its a high quality test with high standards. Pro Tool is simily the standard DAW you find in a commercial studio for no other reason than its the standard! Well, okay, I guess that can be broken down a bit further. Cause the number one reason Pro Tools is and will remain the standard for the foreseeable future... Money! 1. It costs money to switch to a new DAW. And I'm not even talking about the purchasing costs. Im talking time... if you are having to learn a new daw that means you are not using that time to work on mixing. And what is the quality of a mix gonna be since almost all engeeners will tell you that its not the daw, its the workflow. Thats why studios are not itching to crossover. The reason they will remain on pro tools is, its the industry standard! anyone who comes to you looking for work, they will have experience with pro tools. if you switch daws, then you are almost 100% guaranteed to have to hire someone who doesn't work with the daw that you have chosen to switch to. Doesnt matter what daw you pick. what ever daw it is, that's the daw that a new person will not have experience in because what ever studio they came, from, chances are they were using pro tools. so it pro tools a shitty daw. Fuck ya it is. Its god awful. look at where all their R&D money goes these days. its goes into trying different ways to prevent their product from being pirated. And they have done a great job at it. No, not the R&D. They waisted their f**king money on that pipe dream. But, they did manage to pretty much stop people from pirating their software cause they have continued to make such garbage, nobody even wants to download that shit for free. And there is a reason for this. Its cause they are the industry standard, they know they have the industry by the balls and so they arent spending money to be innovative. They are spending money to protect their investment. Which, if you ask me, that's just a poor investment to begin with. You know every commercial studio is going to have to get a legit licence in order to sell the music they make. It seems a bit pedantic to try and get the few individuals who want to pirate their shit, as if they'd actually buy a license other wise. Pretty much they are smart enough to know they got the industry by the balls but too stupid to realize that they probably lost a shit more money coming up with different anti piracy methods than they regained in revenue purchases.

I had my MacBook Pro go out after a decade of use and decided to check out windows because I heard it was more stable than it used to be and lets face it, cheaper. Prior to making the switch I did do a Cubase Pro trial. The capability of Cubase made me comfortable making the switch to Windows. I love Cubase and purchased the Pro version, however later on that year I switched back to a MacBook Pro because as you stated so clearly, it’s just better for audio.

Would you make up your freaking mind already! How many videos do you have where you bash one DAW and praise another one, and then turn around and bash the one you praised and praise the one you bashed a few weeks/months previously? I need a scorecard to keep up and that makes your content questionable. Most of your anger seems to be aimed at something that just recently ticked you off you react like a petulant child. To your credit, I think you do a good job of pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of the DAWs you review and you seem to know what you're talking about the majority of the time. I'm not trying to be hyper-critical, but I've seen a few of your videos and seemingly in every one you flip-flopped to a different DAW. It's like watching the video logs of someone stranded on an alien planet for a few years with videos every few months. Maybe you *should* post some kind a running assessment just so people know where you stand so they can watch the most current rants. Honestly, I don't know where you stand ATM, but I also don't have the patience to find out. All that being said, for the most part I've found your videos watchable and informative-to varying degrees at times-just confusing in the grand scheme of things...

I bought a pre-amp and got Studio 6 as an optional download. Biggest waste of time and effort I've had in a long time. It didn't work for vocals, and the free content was so minimal as to be useless. I'd recommend home studio hardware, like a Tascam or a Zoom every time over computer software like Studio 6. If you can sing and play several instruments, a good 24-track home studio console is infinitely better than Pro Tools and Studio 6. Audacity, which is free, is the only software you need for home recording if you buy yourself good multitrack hardware.
