She & I met 1st in the Oval office while our teams were in the Cabinet Room where we were supposed to join them. I’d been told she was really up tight about seeing me possibly because of my friendship with Marcos. We had all agreed that we wanted to assure her of our support for what she’s doing. In our private meeting I took up the subject of her problem with the communists & related my experience with them in Hollywood 1946. She really relaxed & we ended up spending the whole hour in the Oval O. & finally went into the Cabinet Room only to get everyone moving to the W.H. for lunch. Lunch was a lot of fun for everyone & I think she has gone home reassured & very happy."

This, along with her speech before Congress in 1986, was the high point of her career!

Because they wanted Marcos out for him demanding that they pay higher rental for the use of our land as their base so the money could be used to rebuild the Philippines that was distroyed because of their war against the Japanese and because FEM decided to reduce the amount of land they were occupaying and shortening the rental term to 25 years. Apparently the original term was for more than 40 or 90 years ( not too dure of the lenght of the lease but definitely more than 30) and that if the US stayed for 30 years, the land becomes theirs and FEM found out about this so he put an end to it. Yes Reagan was happy because he knew Philippines has a President they could control. It was also said that FEM's life was spared because Reagan cobsidered him a friend personally but unfortunately, not polutically. US if you care to research, did not spare the likes of Sadam Hussain, Omar Ghadaffi and others in the middle East.

Marcos is undoubtedly a great president but who robbed the Filipino of their democracy. Cory was simply a widow who restored Philippine democracy.

During the Marcos era, democracy reigned while under Cory's administration, democracy lost i.e Louie Beltran, Mendiola massacre, relieved of all elective government officials, and appointed personalities who supported her to oust FEM in the so-called EDSA !. Ironically she self-proclaimed herself as an icon of democracy, but it's upside down, what a shame.
