Preservation Rusty Battle Damage Helmets

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I will show you the preservation of two helmets from World War II.If you do not preserve these items, then after a while the helmet will be covered with rust, and the original paint will not remain on it. Because corrosion cannot be stopped, corrosion can only be slowed down. These helmets have damage received on the battlefield. These helmets are very interesting for collecting.
This is the Romanian Helmet and the German Helmet. This helmets has been in the ground for 75 years. I was very surprised by the helmets, which turned out as a result of the preservation done. The helmets are great.

I like how you didn’t try to fix it and repaint it like someone else would have done. You kept the history with them and just help stop it from rusting and corroding. 👍Great work

The helmet that seems to confuse several people here is (or was) originally a Dutch design. However Romania also used it. As far as I can tell this one is indeed the Romanian version.

I wonder if the damage done to those helmets was due to target practice or if a soldier was wearing them at the time, dread to think. War is brutal, good job putting life back into those war relics. Thanks for sharing

According to Stahlhelm, some shell exploded right next to soldier who wore it. Its creepy to imagine what happened to soldier 😬

Sorry I think you placed the Romanian helmet in oxalicacid too long. The original color is green which turns bright when you place it in oxalicacid too long. A true shame because it was a beautiful helmet that had nice colors after the first oxalicacid bath. My recent Romanian oxalicacid project needed a bath for 30 minutes maximum

Really nice job. An uneducated question; Would it help to preheat the helmets, allowing the initial wax flow in? Then use the heat gun at the end.

On the Romanian helmet, it looks like one entry hole in on the right side and the exit is out the front of the helmet. Then it looks like an entry hole in the top of the helmet and exiting out the back. Or the top and back could be two separate exit holes. The German helmet looks like the right side took the brunt of impact with the jagged edges.

If you want preserve for longer time, you would lay tanin of rusty parts (after cleaning in acid). It would stabilize rust. My master after tanin would lay paraloid b72 and finally microcristallic wax. I really keen on your Job. Big up

The original design IS Dutch. The Netherlands sold them to Romania, or gave them a license to make them over there. There is basically no difference except for the badge at the front.
