Preparing for Inpatient Long-Term Video EEG Monitoring: What to Pack

Preparing for a long-term EEG monitoring session can be overwhelming, especially when packing for both you and your child/adult with complex medical needs. In this video, I share our packing list and tips for a 5-6 day hospital stay with my adult son. This is our first time experiencing inpatient EEG video monitoring, so we're navigating this new experience together. Whether you're a parent of a child with special needs or an adult with medical complexities, this list hopefully helps you to have a more comfortable and smooth stay.
Packing List:
*Comfort Items:*
- Favorite pillows
- Body pillow
- Favorite blanket(s)
*Temperature Control:*
- Ice packs (labeled and in a sealed Ziploc bag)
- Heating pack
- Fan
*Lighting & Convenience:*
- Nightlight
- Extension cords (for fan and video game setup)
*Entertainment:*
- Xbox (with carrying case and games)
- Nintendo Switch
- Coloring books and markers
- Games like Uno
- Fitness bands
*Medications & Personal Care:*
- All medications (for patient & caregiver)
- All Toiletries
- Shaver (for males: if needed: to remove hair for adhering leads on the chest area)
*Clothing:*
- All General Items (Socks and underwear, etc)
- Shorts/Joggers (allowed for patient during stay)
- Pajama tops (for patient) button in the front needed for easy access with leads
- Long sleeve zip-up sweatshirt (for patient) (for warmth and easy access with leads)
*Snacks & Hydration:*
- Extra water bottles
- Gatorade
- Additional snacks
*Additional Tips:*
- Check if your gaming devices can connect to the hospital's internet.
- Bring a sound box with white noise or calming sounds for comfort and pain reduction.

I'd like to share two styles of men's pajamas that we found to be the most soft and comfortable for my son during his stay:
- Dogg Supply by Snoop Dogg Men's Notch Collar Shirt and Shorts Pajama Set (2-Piece) from Walmart: This was his favorite.
- IZOD 2-Piece Long Sleeve Top and Pants Pajama Set from Amazon: Another great option we tried.
