Preparing for Difficult Times: lessons from Toni Nadal

This week I had the privilege of listening to Toni Nadal, coach of #1 tennis legend Rafa Nadal, share his story. He spoke about his approach to helping Rafa prepare for difficult times. The central focus of Toni was removing all excuses from Rafa's mindset.

An excellent perspective on preparing for difficult times. Keep challenging ones own standard to improve the performance without offering excuses. Character building through persistent efforts to stay mentally fit, and performing to the fullest potential will be the right way to fix the issues. Thanking you so much Conor Sir, I really enjoyed listening to this wonderful video.

Muchas gracias Conor for bringing up vital points in your clip. Toughness of mind should be developed in a person to endure any kind of hardship because as you say there is uphill which requires lots of struggle. Especially nowadays when we came come into unprecedented times with Covid 19 everywhere around the globe, people got out of systems and controls and developed mind numbing and body fattening and poising habits sitting on social media and eating enormouly. Who is to blame for these, only us. As it is said, knowledge stays as potential knowledge until it applied in real life. However, as you said Conor people tend to throw towels too soon wherever they are faced up to any hurdles. One more time, thank you for your time and valuable contribution.

Thank you Conor. Playing tennis is a great way to understand ourselves (likely also with other sports but i’ve no experience with those). The fact matches last much less than most of real life events makes it easier, I’d say transparent to link your attitudes to the results. It is quite brutal how your insecurities, vanities can be exposed... that is why beside the incredible technical skills and athleticism i admire the mindset of these players.

In my fraternity, we memorized a poem: “ Excuses are tools of the incompetent. They build monuments of nothingness. Those who choose to use them seldom amount to anything.“

Now I understand why you are so awesome! The danger of smart people (and I count you as one) is that the smarter you are, the better your excuses... so just learning to not even engage with excuses to begin with is the only path. We don't have these fraternity setups in europe... sounds like a powerful part of your educational experience!

Hi Conor, Thank you for the great video!! I would like to know what you think one has to do to keep going on when he is at the breaking point, when he wants to give up. Should one think about the results he is going to get after this difficult period to stay motivate? Should he consider all the efforts he has aldready put in, or should he get motivation from other failures (a sort of need to prove himself and to prove his doubters wrong), or maybe something else. Thank you!!
