The book lists etc. It’s also so supportive as my father consistently tells me how much my value is declining with every year that goes by without kids and a husband. And that I soon wont be able to. Soo, these empowering videos that share the opposite are so helpful. I’ve been following since the Shameless Maya days for all sorts of reasons & I’m so grateful for every chapter of sharing. I had my 3rd child this past January at 41 years old. I was induced at 40 weeks bacause my baby was measuring big. He was 9 lbs. 22 inches long. Big boy. I had a midwife this time. Only my husband and the midwife were in the hospital room. This is my third natural birth with no epidural. I prefer having a midwife instead of an OBGYN Md. but I still wanted to be in a hospital. Great video. I hope this is my last baby. I’m 42 now but who knows. 🤷🏽‍♀️

People never want to talk about just how difficult the transition is for first time mothers or any mothers of newborns. It’s like as if it is taboo to have even a single negative thought about childbirth and child rearing. Because of this new mothers are usually left feeling overwhelmed, unprepared and isolated. No two pregnancies are the same no two births are the same and when we are new moms it is really hard to find support that can address every challenge we are experiencing. This is why PPD is so prevalent. These conversations are so important because it helps to educate and support women and families going through this beautiful but challenging time

I’m pregnant with our second now and our first is 3 as well, and did a planned home birth in NYC. I’m planning a home birth this time again. I really liked the amount of control I had during birth at home with my midwife and dula. What you said about pooping in front of somebody is so true, we can’t give birth when so many random people are around you and telling you to push or do this and that. All moms should have more control in the birthing environment regardless of at home or at a hospital or anywhere. Congratulations to Vashtie and thank you Maya for making this colab.

Hey Maya! Totally thought you were the one who was pregnant again with that title! I also read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth; I was terrified of going to a hospital after reading it, opted for a home birth which was an amazing experience up till I had to go to hospital 5 hours into active labour for a csection. After what I read in that book about csections and hospitals, I was terrified and the fear made my contractions a million times more painful. I wish I wasn't so scared of the hospital because they actually took really good care of me throughout and afterwards. My midwives were with me too. I also wish I had read this book without taking on everything she said wholeheartedly, if anything motherhood teaches is that we can't control everything. As much as I really hoped and planned for a homebirth, it sadly didn't go that way and dealing with having to go the complete opposite (hospital, meds, intraventions, csection) I was devestated. Hope for the best but be prepared to birth at either location and just know that it will all be worth it once you have your baby in your arms ❤

I loved this interview. I studied out of hospital midwifery. I love seeing stories of mothers educated about options and that interviews like this will give more women education. The one thing I would say to Maya is that even though as you said "its there hospital" A patient ALWAYS can choose what THEY want. If you feel like standing up pushing...do it...don't sit in the bed in stir ups. They might challenge you. A provider in a hospital should be confident they can catch a baby laying down or her on all 4's. Midwives do this at home, woman be in ALL different positions even on the toilet. THe comfort lays in the mom, not the provider. THeir sure not gonna kick a woman out for not listening LOL.

I quickly wanna comment about New York City not having functioning birthing centers. I am 31 years old and gave birth for the first time. A natural birth at Brooklyn birthing center. New York City does have birthing centers, please do your research because they are here. Hope that helps anyone out there.

This was such a great video to watch. I am 20 year old woman, but I am dating for marriage/intentional dating and I want to be mother. Very nice, and I will watch the documentary and radar the book that was mentioned.

This video and these comments are so refreshing to see women having babies in their own time! I had my first baby at 33 and definitely want more kids but I’m not in a rush 😂 and I’m only 35 so there is plenty of time!

As a mom for over 2 decades, 5 total. It's difficult to watch new mothers be confused because they never listened to the ones who've already been mothers. Everything is unpredictable. No matter what

Vashtie is very wise to think of using the hospital to give birth, because you want to protect your life and the baby in any scenario.

Hi Maya! I just watched this after seeing another American-abroad KZreadr, Megan Moon, who filmed her experience in post-birth facilities in Korea (where she lives). It is incredible! Was wondering if you could ever cover one -- yes, IN Korea. I think so many mothers wished they had this kind of attentive care, so I wonder if showing this experience (somehow?) to your audiences would encourage those services and care to catch on across borders. Thx for your vids as always :) xo cheers from SD CA!

Listening as I do my makeup to pitch brands and beg for more day jobs, while my daughter (4) is at school and a program runs on worry in the background of my head. Let’s not forget my 18yo who now lives outside the home and I’m supposed to just be ok with that! Lol I can safely say there is not end to this roller coaster called motherhood. It does get easier! You can do ALL OF IT AND FEED BABIES! As I approach 40, my revenge baby will come with a husband this time I think. Sending love to all the creative mommies with functional ADHD🙌🏾💕

people have been having babies since the dawn of time and will continue having kids. nothing is new under the sun. people do the best they can with the resources they have. kids will be fine. and if you have a partner rely on them. there are people doing it all alone. do not have kids unless you are really ready.

Mount sini in New York has a birth center within the hospital but very strict when it come to high risk. Also in Brooklyn there is free standing birth center that I gave birth at 1:30 drive from Bronx but was determined.

I came back to work when my son was 4.5mo and wanted to keep breastfeeding him. You can borrow a pump of buy it second hand. Also, in Switzerland, it’s in the law that your employer has to give you time and space to pump. He’s one next week and still breastfeeding and I don’t regret at all 💪🏽
