Thank you for looking into this and believing your patients. The first dentist I seen after my second child told me that pregnancy has no effect on teeth and that my issues were only from not caring for them. I know my body and I know something changed during those times! Yes postpartum affected how I took care of myself afterwards but to immediately start getting cavities during pregnancy when nothing changed in my hygiene told me something was going on there!

Hi there. You are spot on. Some of the damage to teeth during pregnancy is from the mom not being able to maintain proper hygiene. However, hormonal changes are by far the bigger culprit. There is a term "pregnancy gingivitis" that refers to gum disease caused by pregnancy due to these changes. Do the best you can, and see your dentist in the second trimester for a cleaning (no Xrays) to avoid these detrimental oral changes. And take your daily vitamins! Best of luck. Did you have a boy or a girl?

I’m sorry to hear that. You can only take Tylenol during pregnancy without a physician approval. Try it and have the tooth checked out ASAP. Infections can drain into the bloodstream and affect your newborn.
