    @1:39:58, "are people that cynical because they don't tend to behave that way in the real world". Chris is definitely surrounded by a bubble of incredibly motivated and successful people. I would guess that he doesn't have long or meaningful interactions with the vast majority of people that constitue the average person in America, along with all the struggles and stress they live with daily. Many if not most of the working class is cynical because they understand the political class has abandoned them and the culture is heading in the wrong direction. People may not express this cynicism in a brief and casual interaction but it comes out when they get online and feel more comfortable expressing their true feelings.

    Reading some of these comments, and not having followed very much of Gary Vee over the last few years, I was scared to listen to this interview. I just finished the episode and was relieved to find that this is the same Gary Vee as always, and perhaps a more restrained version of himself whom interrupted incredibly less than years ago; plus he actually conversed on this episode. What is everyone so upset over? I personally stopped listening to Gary BECAUSE he is consistent with his message (I learned so much from his content over the years and felt like it was time to move on). Thanks for a great episode, Chris. And thanks for being so steadfast in being yourself, Gary.

    Key takeaways - Best content creation strategy - What’s in it for them? - Expertise + passion - Self awareness with content creation - Don’t have the gift of gab? learn to write - Don’t like showing your face? Make faceless content - You can fake authenticity but long term you will be exposed - People are growing faster than ever on social media - Gary Vee doesn’t consume anything deep enough. Just enough to keep his finger on the pulse.

    I don’t think Gary V has a lot of haters. I believe he has a lot of critics, and there’s a difference. Haters offer cutting remarks without much substance while critics consume his content and leave empty-handed or didn’t receive the mental nutrition to justify the time investment. And let’s face it, a lot of his content is clickbait or cringe. And that’s what the algorithm likes, sad to say.

    @1:33:00 Im sorry Gary, no, social media is not a reflection of society, its a limited form of expression that doesn't allow for the complexity and nuance of being human. I do agree with your prognostication about where it'll take us.

  • @ForObviousReason

    @ForObviousReason

    Everything we do is a limited expression. The statue of David is a limited expression. The Old Testament is a limited expression. The Godfather movie is a limited expression. Social media is the only one on the list that has way fewer limits, and involved way more people, than anything else. It’s undebatably the best reflection of actual society of anything we’ve ever had.

  • @TheBrickLyfe

    @TheBrickLyfe

    2 ай бұрын

    @@ForObviousReason In no way shape or form is social media the best reflection of society, particularly when we consider only 15% of the world is on social media. I suppose you'd have a half point to bark at if the internet was ubiquitous, but it isn't. Do you think a maximum of 280 characters or 10 pictures which passes along an ever evolving dynamic international interface is the same sense of limiting expression as the magnum opus of a genius director expressing an entire culture over a trilogy or a revolutionary sculptor perpetuating an art form and religion forward using nothing more than a single pose frozen in marble? Or is there nuance there you couldn't express over social media? In concise enough terms people would stay tuned in? You realize language is a bigger barrier than color, art, shape and feeling right? You need to understand all languages and all colloquialisms within each culture to "access" social media. A piece of paper and a pencil or dirt and a stick are far more accessible and have fewer limitations than social media, and have been around for longer. Can you point me to where all the corporate, governmental and religious limitations occur anywhere in life like they do daily on social media?

  • @acetate909

    @acetate909

    2 ай бұрын

    So you're claiming this podcast offers no nuance? You're claiming a 2000 word Subsłack article offers no nuance? You're conflating a three sentence Twitter post with social media as a whole. Unlike televised news with it's five minute panel section full of contrived sound bites, social media platforms offer long form discussions or three hour breakdowns of complex ideas in a way that an advertiser dependent television show can never achieve. Claiming social media isn't a reflection of society is something that I strongly disagree with. In fact, it may be the most pure expression of society because there are limited gatekeepers and people are free to express themselves more authentically. Of course there are clout chasing fakes but those people are easy to spot and dismiss. Social media is absolutely an representation of society,, both good and bad.

    Just a general question and maybe asking for some other people if they suspect their personal identity has been compromised by some nefarious means without the burden of proof, what would be the best course of action other than reporting it to law enforcement and those who should be advised such as credit and financial institutions and employers. And this is a market currents and and an anticipatory issue with the ability to replicate an individual persona with the investments advancements of technology. Just asking. Thanks

    I think being cynical is being wise. I think cynical is taking your past experiences forward with you, and using those to help you make future decisions, also again, known as wisdom. Of course, the powers that be would like us to be doe eyed innocent sheep, and start each day a new. No cynical is good cynical isn’t negative cynical, not unhappy. Cynical means you’re not an idiot and you’re not gonna be taken advantage of. The powers that be hate cynical people because cynical people are smart. Ignorance is bliss.

    Expect the worst and you'll only ever be pleasantly surprised. Helps me stay sane, especially when I've planned around people as I expect them to do what they've historically done no matter what they say........and then they do the thing I assumed they would. A bit sad how often this plays out.

    The reason excess cynicism doesn't work is cynicism is a filter for the brain, which selects out things, based on that cynicism. I notice this all the time in my life. Whatever I'm thinking about I generally find in the real world. 🎤🎹🎶"A man hears what he wants to hear. And disregards the rest"....sang Simon and Garfunkel in The Boxer. Cynicism is a story we tell about life. One of the correct things post-modernism got right, there is no such thing as reality. We select certain things out, omit others, our brains are pattern recognition and story seeking devices. That's also how computers work. They find the story programmed into them. Like Google Gemini AI, coming up with black Nazis after being programmed along Woke assumptions....which are stories set into computer programs....filters on reality, like cynicism, which is often confused with intelligence. Different things. We look for things we think are there. That's where the phrase "self-fulfilling prophecy" comes from. That's where the expression "be careful what you wish for" comes from. That's why positive thinking and goal planning work more than average: the brain goes looking for those patterns in the real world. That's why free will is a thing. We can choose among mental states. We decide how to see the world, what patterns to look for. I once knew a man who moved to a small town, then complained: "The people in my new town are unfriendly, just like the people in my old town". He was right. I once knew a man who moved to a small town, everyone was friendly just like his old town. He was right too.

    Even if you think it's hot air, I don't see anyone giving more encouragement to young people with dreams in one on one settings than Gary. When it's Goggins or Hormozi telling you to nearly kill yourself to be better/have better "Yeah!" But when it's Gary telling you to be patient, don't be so hard on yourself, love the game while you can still play it "He's full of shit!" Why do we identify with the self-loathing of self-improvement and not the empathy?

    i never heard of Gary Vee, and he seems competent in his domain - that's not a bad thing, good for him. it's just that his domain is what makes the internet such a bad place lately, and yes, this is quite contrasting compared to other subjects we've been seeing on this channel. it was an interesting watch, but not my thing. LE: i should know better to comment before watching the whole thing. what he said about taking a step back to take two forward regarding the internet bringing out our worst is actually a great perspective i never thought about.

    So many people react to what they think someone said rather than trying to understand what the person actually said. Fixing this one issue will probably solve 90% of issues seeing as how most people are seemingly intentionally misunderstanding one another these days. So it looks like this: “Ahhh! I don’t understand you, you’re a threat to me and my beliefs and my identity, must cancel you since you are a threat!” Like wtf is that
