Precursor Launcher in Jak II - Part 1 (Just Jak)
Ойындар
In this video I demonstrate a cool thing, mostly in the March 2003 Build of Jak II, but I will also show TPL and Jak II Final. It is about the Precursor Launcher, which is fully functional in the March 2003 Build/Demo of Jak II, and still somewhat present in final version. It just needs to be placed in the level, and you need to get blue eco somehow. None of these were difficult for me, fortunately. Leftovers like this remind us that they always used the previous Jak game as the base when making the next one, at least with the 4 real Jak games.

While tpl was charming and I loved it as a child, the identity that the Jak series has now is really more of its own thing. Jak is how it is and I believe it's perfect the way it is. Kids grew up since the first game and a sequel that was more of the same really wouldn't have sold that well at that time in history. Naughty Dog made a good choice.
I love how the animation of Jak jumping will gaining eco is still there
I love how Jak breaks his fingers just to strike a cool pose while jumping 🐛👍
I play all Jaks every 5 years since it came out. Its more than a game to me, its a part of me.
It sucks how they completely scrapped the original ecos

I love the series ultimately, but also feel like any deviation from the original game which was/is the popular/bestselling, was a total mistake. I always find myself wondering what would have become of the series if they hadn't tried to be more like GTA, and kept with the original game style and tone.

They didn't, though. The world has just evolved to use eco differently. It's most prevalent in Jak's morph gun mods; red eco creates a brutal force, yellow shoots fireballs, blue gives rapid motion, and dark is mass destruction. Green eco is in the health packs :)

@@domenik8339 I'd argue the opposite. Even though the first game was the best selling in the series, the game couldn't really find an audience and didn't really stick out compared to other platformers around the same time. Even the original creators admitted that the original game didn't really have it's own identity. Even though they did copy GTA's mature tone and and gameplay, it allowed them to tell a more mature story that stuck out more and allowed for deeper world building that helped the series find its own identity. Not to mention 3d platformers were being edged out around the same time so if it stuck to the same style, it probably wouldn't have sold as well as 2 did (which wasn't even that much less than the first game. That probably had more to do with the Teen rating than anything).

@@kadenprows8079 and dark eco has been repurposed as zoomer oil? The same dark eco that turned Daxter into a precursor... is now gasoline?
I love that the animation of Jak jumping in the launcher is the one from the back of the PS2 box art.
I wish Naughty Dog actually kept the mechanic for this game

I wish they kept the forward roll jump attack function! But yes, I wish all of the eco goodness stayed in the sequels.

I wonder how many Jak II first-timers (coming from TPL) tried roll-jump attacking and were like "Huh? What?!" when it actually hurt them. Honestly I do think it's stylistically fitting for the more grounded and gritty tone of Jak II though. If you roll into someone with spikes in their armor you're gonna get hurt too, if not more.
