I genuenly think that given the encounter, optimisation of melee jobs has the highest skill ceiling. You have to interact with much more than just mouvement and positions. Snapshots, gap closing suring a dash, max melee tank mouvement, and i could go on. Cutting corner in your rotation to limit loss is far from being a BLM only thing, most melee and tank have to also deal with that.

less the graphics and more the emotes. pint did a couple of wow classic videos, and there just wasnt much you can do with wow from 20 years ago. one of the most noticeable improvements is the facial expressions, but it probably takes longer for him to get all the clips lined up as well.

He’s not kidding about the “50 60 70 uhhh” thing BLM is probably the only job in the game whose rotation completely changes at each interval of ten levels, 80 to 90 is the only interval to not really add anything groundbreaking save a “replacement” for fire 1 and a quick ice refresh And the running joke is that BLM is as well-designed as it is despite the rotation shifts because it’s yoshi-p’s main job so it gets director benefits

Try running the class as I did, during the Storm Blood Era. Hard a shit back then. The only consolation was the old magic system. You remember the MP increases as the level and items increased? It used to be, you could be at 16,000+ MP. The other saving grace was the 200 point spell that could heal you for 10-20% of damage caused. I used to spam it with Scathe waiting for cool downs.

@@VaporeonEnjoyer1 Try working in Thunder spells for AOE. Damage over time in healthy mobs is very nice. Doing shape caste and double thunder can seriously put the hurt on the mobs in dungeons. Thunder 1 and 3 are also good for combo starters in low level dungeons. They deal continuous damage to the boss while your other stuff is going off. Nice to not overlook the real way Black mages move. I "move" all the time in fights at high levels. It's due to back to back stacking thunder chains setting off my leylines and then chaining up like 10+ spells for my special damage window. I find that if you triple caste, then move , then swift caste, then double thunder with proc, then triple again, then move, then ley line while doing fire 3's for speed, it's as if you never stopped moving.

ehhhhhh... it changes when you get F3 and B3, and... you start replacing some fire 1s with fire 4s... and that's about it. It's not like you're completely changing your gameplay loop.

Always felt we Red Mages were the 'support wheels' to our groups, raise players when the healers need their mp and so on. But while support wheels make the ride safer; sometimes just having two wheels (black mage) gets you from A to B quicker.

Probably because your healers are self sabotaging garbage. It's so bad that the devs honestly contemplated removing summoner's ability to revive players. Red Mages are safe from that for obvious reasons................Unless you're new to Final Fantasy and have no actual clue why Red Mages have raise and cure.

@@JohnLouisCruciTushingham No it's fact. Healer is the easiest, least challenged job in the game by design. Their DPS is not required in party content. And the devs DID state on camera in a live letter that they contemplated removing SMN's ability to raise because of the bad behavior and bullying. To cut down on players only bringing them along just to put on raise duty, similarly to how these garbage healers used to shovel healing and protect duty onto the paladin and red mage. Cuz what were they doing to do? Damage? This isn't new, and they've made changes in response to this kind of shit many times. But why not Red Mage? You must be new to Final Fantasy or just fucking clueless to ask that. It's Red Mage. They always are able to use white magic, including raise. That is not synonymous with Summoner's identity at all, which is why their ability to raise was on the chopping block and Red Mage's was not.

@@vayalond7203 1) No it is not. The devs stated this multiple times. The only way it is, is if you jumped into it day 1 with gear too weak to have ever completed it. OR you were too stupid or unskill to not constantly screw it up. If the tanks and DPS suck, you are never going to win. Also, when absolutely no healing is required, the healer is always the first to be cut. Oh and don't @ me about how the game is made against requiring you to heal every waking moment of the fight. As if you were too much of an elitist dipshit to have ever learned the devs stated exactly why and spelled out that Healer is the least challenged job. It was done all to be super accessible to reel in more to play healer. NOT so you can lie and bully others into being a retarded glarebot who can't be trusted to handle double pulls, diamond weapons's shit, or even 1HP mechanics ANYONE would ditch for a toxic COMPETENT healer who y'know HEALS. All party content where the tank and DPS are expected to be there all only require 6 of you to attack. Right down to why Red Mage can revive anyone, while Summoner's ability to do was almost cut because of the abuse. Remember when enochian is a seperate buff from Astra/umbral, that you have to refresh with B4 and have a 60 sec cooldown instead of 30? Playing BLM was like tap dancing around spikes barefoot

@@lynxace1602 I would say BLM is the epitome of 'easy to learn, difficult to master'. The basic damage rotation of it is really straight forward. The difficulty comes from using the right opener in high end fights and also how willing you are to play chicken with mechanics.

Been leveling a Black Mage currently. While I can say there is something of a learning curve it's not nearly as complicated as people make it out to be. I feel kind of proud that I went in without looking at guides and figured the thing out on my own. But I'm also the kind of person that likes to tinker with things. I also main Scholar, so that's probably half of it. There is some overlap in understanding when its time to pop off and when it's time to hold back. The main thing is, it's not a kind of job that lets you buttonmash your way to victory. And thats why I think most people are scared of it (and scholar)

Summoner has Addle too. And a HoT/Cure during Phoenix-Trance.

as a BLM main i felt Pints video in my soul, it really is the hardest class to master, but once you do and you you start getting your clears in and the Damage cycle going off. it feels so good. At the same time when you fuck up and hurt your rotation the pain is physical

I also don't agree with the whole "it gets better later". I enjoyed it as soon as I was able to go into dungeons with it and BLM was one of the last jobs I leveled. I've leveled everything else to 90 at that point, so I had a wide frame of reference and yet I enjoyed pretty much every aspect of BLM, so I just don't get what people are complaining about. It's not even that complicated until you start optimising. I'd much rather have this than something like machinist whose rotation barely changes from 30 to 90.

I always love seeing people that cry about BLM leveling Of all the jobs in this game, I had far and above the most fun leveling BLM the first time because it felt like I was genuinely growing as a player to learn the mechanics while keeping my rotation flowing without mistakes while adding on more buttons and more bells and whistles Only other job to feel that way was surprisingly BRD and maybe now RPR (level 76 alone changes everything in how you play)

It's just janky. You spend a lot of time having half of a mechanic and level sync really just makes it dumber. I've never seen anyone say its unplayable or complicated. It's just unintuitive and kind of stupid. It's definitely not well designed by any means nor is it broken and unplayable. Leveling any other job in the game, including Machinist, clearly points out the jank that only BLM has that everyone has always talked about. Millions of people don't have the same feelings just to fuck with you.

Optimisation of a black mage is great 👍 but as a healer main optimisation of a rescue to 1 shot a blm is the true end game lol

BLM has actually very nice mobility now, it's just about knowing the fight. It's definetly the hardest job to do an unknown fight/prog on, but when optimizing the fight difficulty of jobs gets pretty equal.

You don't need to know the fight to know that eventually you will be targeted. It's not like you suddenly forgot how to tie your shoes and go to the bathroom to shit when you're a day older.

If you kill the enemy, you don't need heals!

Enjoyed the video, but all casters bring addle too. And most other casters don't require you to play around the blm. That being said, game is a game, have fun with what you do. That's important.

You should try Blue Mage.

As a Black Mage nothing is more annoying than some healer thinking they're saving me and pulling me out of my ley lines. But I didn't need saving. I had prepared for the mechanic and either buffed enough to eat it or was timing it to move out at the last second. And you, stupid healer, just screwed that up. Thanks! What's worse, I always tell them at the beginning to never save me, ever. They do it anyway.

when I was new to FFXIV I heard people say "BLM is a turret class, they don't want to move" so I instinctively put regens or shields on BLM when I knew they were gonna get hit by an AoE and they'd rather not move. sometimes it's just fun as a healer to adapt to your team mates rather than force them to follow the standard playbook rules

Outside of a static, most of the time healers use rescue it's a bad choice. I was a NIN main in ShB, and the amount of times a healer would rescue me out of TCJ was so annoying. I have shade shift+bloodbath+2nd wind. I'll be fine.

Not intimidating annoying and unrewarding. Yes I could learn it and I could try to get good, but why would I when I could get good at something else and get rewarded for it. Blue mage for example if I get good and learn the fights I can get interesting rewards and a mount. Black mage on the other I get good learn the fights and then rng can fuck me and I'm targeted.

Summoners are only good at 90. But they are GOOD at 90.

Tbh, I've been thinking of playing black mage now that SMN is boring af to play since EW. Literally turned it from difficult for ages into 😴. Hopefully Black Mage can scratch that itch, if only a bit.

The thing that get's me is sure don't play around the BLM and working together is good... but also working around a BLM is just decent raid sense, work to not drop AoE's on your teammates, whether their BLM or not.

I play BLM... and i keep getting bad WHM as healers... going on about how "if you dont stay in AOE range i won't heal you"... Every time i die and thats what our WHM has to say, i will now stay on top of them for as long as i physically can, often resulting in both of our deaths and several subsequent wipes. Have fun :)

This is a lot how I felt playing enhancement shaman when the majority of people were on resto or elemental. I was very often told that I should either change to elemental because it was a ranged dps or stick to being a healer because enhancement wasn't viable. I didn't listen because I loved the spec and even more, I just wanted to prove them wrong. I played every day and did the raid content every chance that I could get, even when I was already saved and I did a ton of M+ as well. Before I knew it, I had become the #4 enhancement shaman on my server and I wanted to shoot for top 100 in the world! Sadly, I never quite reached that goal, but it was nice while it lasted. There was one build that I never got to test to completion because I was under a lot of pressure to perform well, and that was the sunder reset build that I was putting together.

Healers Adjust. As a main WHM in FF14. If a BLM moves out of an assclapper 5000, I hate them for it because I hit them with Benisom and Regen is already on and if Benison is on CD the many oGCD instant are already primed, and if those are also on CD, Cure 2 is landing a second after the damage is taken. Note to Black Mages, dont fucking move. As a healer if you die it was the healers fault. Bang on about red mage though, actually useful to the entire process of a fight, and don't get punished for not moving. The DPS loss from having a RDM with near infinite instant cast resurrection, is made up from the DPS gain from 2x healers not having to baby sit 1 job.

Summoner got completely reworked down to a really easy rotation that can get numbers better than many poor BLMs, and is far more mobile than BLM and has SwiftRes capacity to keep healers concentrating on DPS / tank maintenance.

As a Viera BLM main, I do not get a giant hat. Had to nerf us somehow

He's currently in Shb. Fun react and the last bit is a good joke/soundbite though so I get why you kept it

Preach shouting "ADDLE" at "BLM brigns no utility" is kinda spot-on when compared to Pint mentioning machinist; Machinist brings a single defensive to the raid, 10% damage reduction. BLM also brings a single defensive to the raid: addle with 10% magic damage reduction and 5% phys damage reduction. BLM is not the single most selfish dps in the game, SAM and MCH are on the same level of selfishness, just dont tell the devs that MCH also does terrible damage and cannot make up for its lack of buffs with its own damage while also being one of the highest APM jobs. I dont main MCH but damn do I feel their pain (mobility isnt really a counterargument since with every raid tier the devs work harder to ensure Melee Uptime is almost 100%, and BLM can now instant cast a shitton of abilities per fight; MCH is also not that much easier than SAM is; They straight up made SAM and BLM easier and easier over time while never allowing MCH to do good dps because "its the easy job")

I'd not complain for MCH to do more damage since its the job i main. But saying MCH ain't much easier then SAM is really something you can just say if you've never played SAM on good parses. Thats not compareable at all. And i can tell you, we don't really feel much pain, Sure the 99-100 parsers will feel the lack of damage, but as someone whos on 90-93 right now, im still on par with everyone else. And i have it way easier then most other jobs to get there. So in conclusion, if anything i'd love to get something like the SCH speedbuff for mch. Some utility. Not a 3% raid increase or another defensive. This alone would be enough to push the job in a pretty decent spot.

@@DNoll-dx4ju the lack of utility and MCH not making up that lack with dps on the same level of how a SAM or BLM does is kind of the point; many people inviting for savage groups or looking for savage groups are asking themselves "why should I join as MCH if BRD and DNC are just so much more beneficial to the group; I feel like MCH are holding the group back". Giving MCH some form of utility like a speedbuff or damage buff or some other way of helping the group in any way outside of average dps would be really good. Ultimately, even Savage is clearable with any dps comp for the most part, but it still feels really bad when you play MCH or invite a MCH, knowing that its a choice that doesnt really help your team in anyway and cannot make up for its lack of utility, and how people feel about the efficiency of their jobs does indeed play a huge role in what jobs people are comfortable playing

Yeah melee are able to usually keep full uptime, but one reason they can do that is because the ranged phys are handling all of the mechs/positioning that require ranged mobility. The ranged phys is doing tornado baiting in all p3s cheese strats, running the furthest in any spread positioning, grabbing the remote towers, etc. Now clearly MCH should do highest damage among phys ranged because of DNC/BRD's greater utility, but it still is bringing a ton more utility than BLM.

It's not just BLM that want other dps to get the fuck away from them, I consistently get assasinated on SMN in P2 by other dps either chasing me when I move to make a safe spot for _them_ or dps who I move for, notice them moving so stop only for them to stop too when they get their aoes. Maybe its because they are jealous that I'm a caster with only three actual hard casts? /shrug

Its more the fact that BLM is objectively the worst class in the game for progression, and thats the only thing that matters, even people in top teams that get kills on BLM (at least in ultimate) ususally prog with redmage until they are ready for a kill, and then only if the dps check requires it TLDR BLM is basically just trolling your party over the other mage classes (no res as well)

I don't get why they aren't top DPS at all times, if played perfectly. Sam and Reaper are always above and eh.

Reaper is not even close to the top. Samurai is by far top DPS with BLM being in second place.

Black Mage is a fine job, but it's quite possibly the worst job to try to play through the game with. It expects and requires an understanding of mechanics and how to recognize new ones even as you're seeing them for the first time. Being the strictest job on your mechanic timer and mobility makes it a difficult job to play well while learning a fight, and a great job to play to perfect your mastery over a fight or the game in general. As a job it is fine, but it is most certainly not beginner friendly in the slightest.

Ah yeah... the pain of leveling a job that requires knowledge. Usually prior knowledge. And all that goes down the drain when the healer decides to use regen and no other heals on you, just because you had to move out of an aoe at 40% health left and failed the timing by 0.2 seconds. Gotta love it.

I won't heal people who purposely stand in aoes, regens are what you get. Not to be mean but while I'm managing my mp, monitoring the party, applying hots to the tank, doting the boss, preparing to heal or shield the tank for a buster, avoiding mechanics, and fixing other people's fuck ups. You want babysitting to go along with it. As a healer I'm forced to dps and fix everyone's fuck ups while simultaneously monitoring everyone's hp and I have my limits. Most of the time the only thing I can do for you is a Regen. There are better healers them me that can ofc, but really think about what your asking so you can soak a mechanic you shouldn't be. Not trying to argue just pointing out my perspective as a healer.

@@badger_ninja8681 When you're being conservative with healing, that's one thing. When you're refusing to heal people if they make mistakes, that's another. One is strategy, and good strategy at that, the other is a TOS violation.

@@Poldovico I could of used better wording but I do heal mistakes, but there is a difference between mistake and purposely getting hit. I'll gladly heal people at least attempting to do mechanics as I can. If someone is noticably just soaking damage though I'm obviously going to discourage that with a Regen. Its not that I'm refusing to help them. It's just there's a limit I can help without heavily taxing myself and possibly causing a wipe. Even if that's tos I'll keep doing it but honestly I've been seriously moving away from healing as a whole into tanking.

@@badger_ninja8681 Soaking damage is very rarely the right strategy, but when it is, if done right it should not put any extra strain on healers. You can soak with mitigation or self healing, such as Manaward or Bloodbath, or take some avoidable damage if you know a partywide heal is coming that will top you up anyway, but with vuln stacks being on most attacks these days it's rare that it's even worth it.

@@Poldovico some soaking is fine I'm talking face tanking a bunch of aoes for unnecessary dps. Sometimes is fine the problem is in my experience it's more then sometimes, and the dps was high enough to clear anyways.

Currently at 90, can't wait for BLM to get good at 100.

Play what you like. I really enjoy having lots of mobility, so BLM is torture for me.

SMN can move for days. All the summoning allow quick cast except Ifrit. While BLM has longest cast time, it also deal lots of dmg as caster. For me, its kinda fun to play when u know the fight and when i dont wanna do positional

@@ogrimbothesour2976 it's not though. SMN rotation only has to stand still for two casts per minute. BLM's instacasts are all cooldowns they are essentially forced to used as part of their optimal dps rotation and thus won't have them when they need them half the time. Also, casters ain't the only thing in the game.
