    So many butt hurt Vinny fans up in here, do you really think that Calvin is oblivious to the situation and he needs you to protect him? People citing stats, ratings, average finish, and blah blah. Clutch is not a statistic but you know it when you see it. McBeth worlds 22’ hole 17, clutch. Conrad holy shot, mega clutch. Both those show up in the stats as throw ins and we don’t quantify the clutchiness of a situation. Isaac clearly acknowledges Calvin’s greatness and everything else said was based in truth. Keep up this great content Drew, imo this is the best disc golf series in recent frolf tubes.

    Enjoyed the video Drew! I must admit I'm team Calvin for POTY 2023. With as many insanely good players as there are out there, being in the mix and placing top 5 or 10 seemingly EVERY SINGLE tournament of a season.. to me proves that Calvin was made of some different stuff than the long list of players who could have hot streaks but also place really poorly often. Especially for individual sports like disc golf when you're competing against 100+ other players and it can'treally ALL be boiled down to "win or lose" when you'retalking about someone's skill in the sport. That being said, there is something to be said for being in contention and being able to clutch up and take home the win when the pressure is on. Like Isaac said, is POTY for "who was most dominant overall over the season's average?" Or "who took home the most majors?" Up for debate.

    In reasoning that Isaac should have been 2023 POTY over Calvin, because Isaac won majors, that reasoning also says that Corey Ellis (Euro Champ) and Kyle Klein (USDGC Champ) should have been POTY over Calvin. How is finishing inside the top 10 at almost every tournament not clutch? In DG, there are soooo many clutch moments that are not the final putt of final drive or final round. Just being in the top 10 and putting pressure on the best players every week is clutch AF. I think the only winning two and being out of contention for most of the year is decidedly NOT clutch. And Drew, you had a chance to be clutch against Nathan Queen, and you came up short. Queen came in clutch AND had to do so through 4 (I think) rounds.

  • @DrewGibson

    @DrewGibson Right, it was one of the most epic battles. Nathan and you were on fire. The argument that Calvin didn't deserve it because of the Majors doesn't pan out in my eyes. Yes, Majors are important, but the ability to be in the hunt week in and week out is a proven metric of being a player that puts pressure on the other players to step up makes the game better. Which to me makes Calvin's player of the year valid.

You guys play the same tourneys as Calvin, AB, Gannon… you have opportunities to be clutch or “unclutch”week in and week out too. • @stevenramseyjr2032

    @stevenramseyjr2032

    Various top players, including Calvin and Gannon, have made it publicly known that they do not give much weight, if any, to their Silver wins or high Silver finishes. (It wasn't a win, but Bradley Williams left his 2nd-place Blue Ridge trophy in his hotel or temp house last year.) A couple of exceptions would be Ezra R. and Ella's Silver wins last year, because it got them onto the official DGPT event scoreboard. However, those events had extremely weak fields for being DGPT sanctioned. But Ezra did beat Matty O and rated 1170+, indicating that he might have decimated anyone who would have played that one. Ella's win, on the other hand, was in a field of 7 and rated in the 950s, which would be about 20 strokes behind a 3-round DGPT FPO winner this year. But, it counts, so that's good for her.

    Isaac is 1000 percent right. Even though he didn’t say he should’ve won player of the year, he definitely should have. If u ask any pro they would have taken Isaacs year over Calvin’s. Majors are worth at least 2 regular tourneys if not more. And when it’s all said and done, people remember majors.

  • @davidjones3139

    I disagree. Yes any player would rather have Isaac's season, however from a "player of the year" perspective: Calvin was 1st in Fairway hits, parked, C1 in reg, and C2 in reg. Birdie or better on OVER HALF THE HOLES HE PLAYED. His average finish was well within top 5. Average round rating of 1051.5 If you ask me a pro would rather have Isaac's season, however Calvin's season was more impressive and more deserving of player of the year. Calvin is not as clutch and didn't take down a major but I think he deserved it.

    Calvin had me on my toes every mf tournament. People can't seem to understand that everyone who isn't Calvin is a pro and extremely tough to beat. Absolutely insanely consistent; so yes, he deserved POY. When Isaac was on he was absolutely stellar. That basically sums up what they said, and I agree. Calvin wasn't "clutch" and that's no offense, he was better than everyone week in and week out, but when Isaac won he won big. But none of this now matters because Barela is POY unless a miracle happens. (Which it COULD!) I love disc golf.

    This is exactly why worlds is broken. One tournament deciding the outcome of who is a world champion is absolutely ridiculous. And now dudes way in his head about how good he actually is. Talking smack about the highest rated player in the world consistently year by year. And I like how you started the sentence "he can take it down". Vinny's been lead card worlds the last 4 years straight where have you been dude lol

    Isaac is very gifted, but it's his lesson to deal with it. He seems level headed to me.

    Big Drew fan but the cold-open really makes my dislike of Isaac seem more than justified. The karma for negative remarks about Calvin will be cached and cashed out eventually. Beware!

    Great value add to the conversation. It's awesome to hate something and go out of your way to give your time to that thing just so you can say you hate it. I know I love going to restaurants I hate, ordering food I hate, and then going on Yelp and spending time writing a review of how much I hate it. It really is the best way to have the best life.

    The difference between Championships for LeBron etc is it's a TEAM sport. He dominated all but one finals and was the first ever to lead all statistical categories in a finals (both teams combined) and still barely won. You can't shoot and play all the other guys positions. He was the best player most the time. Disc golf you have a case, because you can literally control everything and the outcome. Love your videos, but that championship take for a team game wasn't the best. Other than that everything was spot on! Good stuff!

    Of the major team sports, basketball is the one in which a single great player has the biggest impact. LeBron, even with the NBA's help, takes a step backward in the playoffs, is notoriously not clutch, has had various very bad Finals series showings, and almost universally refuses to look inward, despite almost always having hall-of-famers by his side. And has literally never improved his overall shooting and free throw game for his career. That's his story, and he sticks to it.
