Practical Accuracy Part 2- Ruger American Rimfire .22lr Simmons Pro Target 3-9x40 scope

Спорт

Part 2 in my practical accuracy series
This time I shoot the Ruger American Rimfire in .22lr.
Surprisingly, I got better results with this rifle than my Ruger Precision Rimfire- which prompted me to trade in the RPR and look for something else.
I love the Ruger American series! I have had such good luck with them.

Think that's a completely useful and cool little setup for pljnky and while I prefer semi auto for fun that would get most any job done

I agree. CCI Blazer and the Federal equivalent, 510, can be great performers for the money. Depending on the individual rifle of course.

Says right in the title of the video- Simmons Protarget 3-9x40. Got it from Walmart for like $70-80 I think, then you need rings as well. I used “sniper” brand rings from eBay about $13 a set

I understand that your intentions is by no means to post a professional. 22lr video and that it's about practical accuracy. But the way this is being done you will not have better groups regardless of using a RPRR, American, CZ or Voodoo Clean the bore after each ammo type, shoot some fowlers for each ammo type on a seperate target until you see the group close up(5-10 rounds). Shooting .75 at 25yrds is 3MOA at 100. Did you realize the groups did not double in size at 50yrds? This is the barrel telling you that it's getting used to the new ammo.

But the groups with this gun were better than the Ruger Precision Rimfire using the same technique, same scope, same ammo, so what does that mean?

@@crankygunreviews could be many things, is your Rprr still very new? They tend to get better after a 400-500 rounds. The American could be more forgiving to the technique or ammo types used. If you have the time go look at the channel called "Persuit of Accurancy" It's all about rimfire, not saying it's for everyone as Josh delves very deep into the subject but it's fantastic to learn and understand the some of the basics of the .22lr and just how sensitive they can be I reckon your groups will shrink considerably, good luck

@@plinkspot8750 I had well over 500 rounds through my precision, I was disappointed every time I took it out- I traded it in. I’ve had better results with about 1200 fps 22lr ammo past 50 yards. My pursuit of tiny groups is pretty much over, that’s why I am into the practical accuracy more. Less disappointment and more fun shooting

@@crankygunreviews Take notice of what the velocities are with the ammo that doesn’t perform well past 50 yards. It’s been proven that the transition into supersonic velocities throws the projectiles stability and trajectory off due to the sonic boom (with several different calibers). Subsonic projectiles don’t experience the sonic boom of going supersonic so their trajectory and stability isn’t affected by the sonic boom (since it doesn’t happen) resulting in a straighter, longer, more accurate shot. Especially for .22lr since the projectile is so light. That could be why you’re experiencing better accuracy past 50 yards with CCI Standard because it doesn’t go supersonic. That would have more effect on your accuracy than a slightly dirty barrel that “isn’t used to that ammo yet”… Which was also proven by the poor results you experienced with your RPR using the same ammo and distance. Just something to consider. Nice video!

@@ryanwilson5936 I’ve had mixed results with both standard velocity and high velocity ammo past 50 yards. A standard velocity has anything but a “flat trajectory”- I can see them arch in to the target in the scope. I have heard that supersonic ammo does go a little wobbly when it drops back subsonic, but I have had some better luck with high velocity at 100 yards out of some guns because the higher velocity does have a flatter trajectory for longer distances. But I’m talking like 1400-1600 fps which may still be close to supersonic at the 100 yd mark. Every gun is different, every one like certain ammo over others. I got better accuracy out of my Ruger American than my RPR, so I sold the RPR. Maybe I should have tried torquing down on the barrel but or go through the whole gun, but I just didn’t really like shooting it.
