On my 2000 7.3 I put a spin-on water filter because of sand in the system. Ford said it was casting sand so I spent an ENTIRE WEEK flushing the engine out. When I got to the point that fresh TAP water put in and drained 2 days later was TOTALLY clear, at that point I drained the system, the block plugs as well, flushed with distilled water then put new hoses, degas bottle and cap, water pump, filled with the red high mileage ELC coolant like International Harvester said was best, and a new spin on water filter. Two years of driving and the coolant looks like brand new translucent red coolant and the degas bottle still looks like new...no tan or brown stains in the tank and I dont think the filter is catching anything as it is such clean coolant. Just an FYI of one of the things I am doing to extend the life of my 2000 7.3psd.

ive had my GOBI jacket for many years along with a hoodie and even pants!! LOVE my heated apparel!!

I fix a lot of aluminum vehicles right along with steel vehicles in the body shop. Getting to the point, I make a LOT of money repairing them all.

That's my truck with the IPR system. It was there when I got it. I do my own service, so no problem there. The truck was there for dealerproofing. I couldn't be happier with the work that was done.

speaking of new can't wait until you get your hands on that new High Output 6.7 with 1200 ft/lbs of torque, hopefully it's reliable

I'm old school and at my age I'll stay old school but my two sons love this new stuff - 2022 F150 with 5.0 modular and the other wants the new diesel. Done told em, I want wrench on em but pull a 7.3 in the yard and it's on.

Bill, I partially disagree about the coolant filter. Keep up the good work otherwise, lol. My 6.0 coolant filter hardly gets any contaminants in it now at 155,000 miles but for a while, after the installation at 75,000 miles, it was removing a lot of sand/Ford Gold Coolant sediment. I had n3ver I trounced tap water. I think the 6.0 originally needs a coolant filter installed. Now that I use ELC and only distilled water and not the Gold junk I don't need to filter the coolant.

you also really really don't need to filter coolant if you have a Air to Oil cooler. and no EGR. biggest reason people say you need a coolant filter. is the sand from the block casting and gunk from ford ELC coolant. will clog oil cooler and rupture it oil in coolant. and or rupture EGR giving symptoms of blown head gaskets. in all honesty i feel like a bulletproof EGR. or no EGR. and a Air to oil cooler fixes all the issues with the 6.0L. theres probably been thousands of trucks out there that wrongfully had Headgasket jobs because mechanics didn't know any better or have any better means of diagnosis. One the EGR ruptures. the Oil cooler is next vice versa. making it seem like your headgasket is gone. had a buddys truck i fixed for him. he took it to 2 of the most reputable shops near me a few years ago. they all told him he needs new headgaskets he thought hey you got a 6.0L and do all your own engine work. can you look at it. I looked at it. told him probably EGR and maybe the oil cooler. he left it with me for an afternoon to verify. i plugged the Coolant port to the EGR. and slipped a blockoff plate on it started it up there was no more exhaust gas coming from the Coolant overflow tank. ended up deleting the truck after that and probably from exhaust particles that ended up in the cooling system. clogged his oil cooler. ended up switching to a Air to oil cooler and remote filter kit like my truck has. running Fleetguard or Cat filters. haven't had a single coolant or even thinking about blown headgasket related issue. yet

So I guess the best bet is the keep buying 2011 - 16 super dutys and taking good care of them, their comfortable trucks and easy to repair dents I guess. Then someday maybe aluminum dent repair will become easy enough and affordable.

I’ve worked in 3 or 4 trucks with that IPR kit and they all leaked something fierce. 😂

I don’t have an aluminum body truck but if I bought a new one I would. Because steel is certain to rust here in Indiana and I may not get in an accident.

Frame pulls depend greatly on what type of steel is being pulled.

I'd love to know what you had to pay for it. I'm thinking that considering the condition its worth a ton for parts.

Ford uses an aluminum alloy that is not easy to be repaired. In Europe, I bet the alloys that they use are can be repaired, I bet. Ford spent years developing those alloys so they can sell you another vehicle.

Like Bill said, 2023 is the year of opportunity. If someone could research and develop a way to retrofit a steel body on theses aluminum trucks, do a quality job, a safe job, and to where the paperwork checks out, I’m sure they’ll be a market for it and a way to make some money from that service.

My wife drives a 2020 aluminum f150 that was wrecked. Not a big deal to repair. Unbolt the bent parts bolt in the new. We wanted the aluminum truck because of the rust problem we have in snow county. We shall see how it holds up.

Or better properly replicate the body dies so you can sell aftermarket parts that are as good as OEM to meet the needs. But really the only difference will likely be in straightening the panels since the aluminum is not as ductile as the mild steels normally used. It’s more likely to crack and tear from work hardening. The stuff Bill is talking about also often happens on steel body vehicles. I suspect the real culprit here is more stringent safety standards. Old trucks would just fold right up like overcooked spaghetti when they hit something. Modern crash standards are much more rigorous so it’s to be expected that more energy will be imparted to and carried by the rest of the structure. It’s what makes it safe to begin with. It’s a rigid shell that protects the occupants. But, they are also harder to repair than old school body-on-frame trucks like OBS Chevys and Fords.

@@scottberry5266 It will be interesting to see if they do better in the long run. Aluminum oxidizes and any other steel components will have galvanic corrosion in its presence if Ford has not done a good job with coatings and paint. This can especially be a disaster for the adhesives since oxidation can creep between and cause delamination of the panels.

Everything he says about aluminum to you is absolutely true been doing fabrication for more then 15 years aluminum fails as a auto body material steel is way better and aluminum will crack and break or sheer away. Steel will flex bend and hammer out all day.

They finally figured out what most shops did 5 years ago lol. Not enough coolant went through the filter to start with.

Longest 30 seconds in my life

The IPR oil cooler is a "good idea" but poorly executed. I've installed one and will never do it again. Big clunky oil filter cap that requires you to "clock" the second piece without fully removing it. Lines that get in the way. Tiny coolant filter that barely holds any dirt. Also it's upside down so it pukes everything out when you change it. Every coolant filtered truck I've worked on had the filter installed as an "attempt" to solve oil cooler issues.

screw that coolant cooled engine oil cooler ,,i'll stick to my air /oil cooler ,my 8.3 cummins has one ,, and my turbo big block chevy in my C3500 has one too ,, simple and it works better than a coolant oil cooler ,,it just doesn't help the oil warm up in the winter

Your 8.3 also has a coolant oil cooler, the oil filter housing is mounted to it.

Not entirely in context. I had a moderate deer hit (No air bags)with my “STEEL” 2016 Superduty. No air bags $14,000 repair! I am the original owner and now a year later I am fighting to save my truck from rust (all the usual places). I have a reputation of taking extreme care of my vehicles. Multiple body shops say their is nothing I could have done but not drive in the winter. The body shop replaced the pushed back fender and hood (minimal damage). Give me aluminum all day long!!!! Love your channel watched you for years successful owner of 2 6.0 partially because of your advice. But I have to respectfully disagree on this on! Just saw a 2023 of my exact truck on the lot……$76,000!!!!!! NOT HAPPING EVER!!!!

Nobody repairs the aluminum if it gets into an accident all they do now is replace the quarter panel or the Box or door they don't Bondo and fix crushed aluminum

WTF is he talking about regarding using the frame puller?? The frame is still steel.... I find it interesting that the two aluminum trucks I've owned (currently own a '22) were the same cost to insure as my steel body super duty.....you would think the rates would be much higher on the newer trucks if they were so much more to repair. On a side note....fell for the mass hysteria on the CP4 pumps even though I've had zero problems in the past....did both archoil treatments on my 4,000 mile 450.....no difference in fuel economy. Will say that crap does smell like p155....UTI P155
