I've used neway since the 80's. Nothing like it. Cut 16 seats in 16 minutes floor to floor. Super accurate, super quiet, no dust. Spray the last cut, the actual seat, with water based coolant like flywheel grinder coolant. They'll look almost chrome finish. Check seat placement with a magic marker on the valve face. I prefer souix valve refacer. Best machine ever. Still have it. Best part is there is no setting up heads. Lay them on the racks your done. By the time someone sets up a head in a Serdi machine, I'll do 16 seats. I've done from big diesels to lawn mowers. Newway's the best! BTW I'm 75 and retired machinist.

I really like using the spring loaded crank handle, it is easier to cut without stopping and it is easy to control the pressure at the start and end of the cut. I just did two Chev 235 cylinder heads and the seats came out really well. Make sure to measure the guides first. The expanding pilot is really nice especially on heads that don’t have the tightest of tolerance requirements.

I remember using these in the early 1980s doing head work at a Kawasaki Dealer I worked at that ran race bikes. Loved the Neway cutters.

Great video. Pity that the end cuts off before you talked about speed. Please consider posting newer videos of your products in action and or customers telling us how they use them. Even something as simple as video shot from your phone. Thank you either way, this was very informative and I'm glad to now be aware of what your products can do. On my wish list now :) Cheers.

before the valve seats are cut the guide must be replaced or repaired if out of tolerance. cutting a valve seat using a worn guide could end up putting the valve stem at the wrong angle/ position on hte cam or follower with too much side force.

Machinist here and you are correct. Good video but the whole video should be posted. I've used Neway cutters at my bros shop for many years and they're widely popular for good reason but they are intended for use by EXPERIENCED automotive machinists so training is like a Helm manual, not like amateur literature which explains other processes.. They're easy to learn to use but all rules of runout and concentricity one learns in machining apply. Install the new guide then ream to specified clearance, and another tip is if you have the choice get the solid pilots though the expanding pilots work well.

@@obfuscated3090I liked the expanding pilot for being able to just do a quick refresh on a head if the guides are a bit worn but not new, I did a pair of Chevy 235 heads that were like that. They seemed to work pretty well as long as everything is really clean before putting the pilot in.

Like a previous poster noted this video terminates 2/3s of the way through the tutorial on cutting valve faces.. I think i'm going to try some of these techniques on my Lathe in particular using a steady rest to control chatter, a problem i have encountered in the past. Also notice how the operator locks down the carriage when making a cut.

Don't waste your time. Pickup a used valve refacer. Preferably a Souix wet machine. Uses oil for coolant. ATF works fine. Valve refacer chucks are super accurate. I'm pro machinist 50 yrs

@@victoramato4692 I did pick up an old Sioux machine with some life left in it , did a resto and now i can cut valve faces that look like chrome finish, pretty kool. Still i have found that you indeed can cut valve faces on a lathe , the key factor here is getting your speed right and (thats a big and !) your tooling has to be super sharp.

Not for a Neway. Way too fast. They only turn max 70 RPM! On a stone, maybe. Not much torque. Drivers are powerful. Plus you need a stone dresser. Hit the car show flee markets. Like Hershey Pennsylvania in October I'm sure you'll find something. Try to get a complete kit. Accessories are expensive. Newway's are still available. Try Goodson.

you don't want a 46 degree seat. The factory would cut 45 degree seats. Interference angles are mickey mouse band-aid engineering. If you cut a true 45 on the valve and a 45 on the seat you will get a longer lasting valve job that requires less adjustments over time.

It does depend. Sometimes the exhaust and intake have different angles. It really depends on the type of engine. Most times both are the same. And, especially small engines (lawn equipment), a specific manufacturer will tell you in their manual to cut a 31, 46 and 60. (However if you have a cutter that is 30 and 45 and it fits , majority of the time that one will be just fine. Do not hesitate to call us or email us. There is no question that this is a good product. The problem is it is very expensive for what you get. You also must make sure you know the process so you do not order the wrong pieces. This product should be no more than $200 for everything you need to do a complete head. You should be able to order a kit for a specific head with a specific valve guide size. Get real on your pricing please. Reply
