Rusty Glovebox I have a question about the design.....is it not kind of restrictive when it comes to the size of metal you are hitting? I too make blades (knives/axes/leather tools etc etc) and have decided to make a power hammer. I have a huge amount of metal as I over estimated how much I would need to make my large belt sander, which is already built. So, back to your design.....is it at all height adjustable? I would need mine to be for forge welding......it will certainly save my wrists from the beating they take manually forge welding steel single handed :-/ I have manual 25 ton press. It's frame would be about right, so I think I will fabricate something using that as my base dimensions. ....what do you think?

WHAT OFFSET HOLE DID YOU DO ON THE FLYWHEEL. I made a sheet metal Helve hammer a few years ago. but I couldn't get it to bounce the hammer like a pogo. The leaf spring was mounted under the hammer arm and link between the frame and hammer. not much adjustment. I will dig thru my iron rack and copy your design and probably use a 2 hp treadmill motor for speed control and the belt tensioner.

That's a good looking hammer, I'm getting ready to build one this winter, have been looking at quite a few, and have plans to build similar to yours, but I've got a heavy anvil, and will be pushing a hammer of about sixty pounds. I think similar to yours, with a leaf spring to the front, and the motor/crank there, lifted it, and pulling it down. I like your belt drive/clutch arrangement, looks to work really well, thanks for share a very professional looking piece of work, I too would take it for "bought from commercial". Thanks!!

Nice work. Though one thing that you might want to add is a support screw under the pedestal. It would make the anvil more solid, wasting less energy flexing the beam underneath it, and also help keep it from moving while you work. I like the use of the top link to connect the flywheel to the arm.

Genius! Nothing less than genius! Good-lookin' machine too! Nice red paint! Thanx for sharin' Lloyd!
