I use Prismatic as well as well as I love going in person to pick up my materials. If you ever get the chance go check out their upstairs with all the color swatches, it looks like Christmas ! Also I have that same Eastwood gun and I like it better with tip diffuser removed - use less powder.

I once saw a home-rebuilt custom 1930s automobile at a car show and the person had used a silver/chrome undercoat and 22 layers of different colors of what was called "Kandicoat" (not sure of spelling) translucent top layers. The entire car looked like it was a ever-changing liquid rainbow of the old merthiolate first-aid liquid. It was blindingly beautiful. It took him six months to paint it.

Good Video. I've been powder coating for about 15 years now and started with the Eastwood gun. For those wanting to get into powder coating, remember to tape off the areas you don't want powder to get in and also its always easier and uses less powder if you heat the part up and then shoot it. it doesn't have to be a set temp, I usually shoot it after its been in the oven at 400 degrees. It will get inside the tight spaces easier because it hits "flow out" the second it touches the part.

I became familiar with powder coating for exterior parts. Jeep steps, Jeep bumpers, tow bars & such. 1 complaint I have is the finish loses it shine REAL quick. I used to shoot a coat of gloss black paint over it to restore it. BUT, my biggest complaint, maybe because it is in an outdoor environment is by & by the metal under the coating will begin to rust. And soon you will see the coating start to lift, then, fall off. Maybe, under the hood powder coating does not suffer this, but outside it sure does. Currently, the steps on my motorhome are a mess. I have removed them from the coach & disassembled them in my garage and am in the process of removing the coating & sanding off all the rust. I intend to use gloss black paint on the arms & I bought some truck bed spray for the steps themselves. If the steps start to look bad in the future, I just grab a rattle can & give em a shot. Good as new. You cant do that with powder coating. No, I am not a powder coat fan. I will wager a guess that powder coating is used by mfgs because it is probably cheaper to coat a part than painting. And/or quicker. I'm willing to bet. !

NIC Prismatic is the BEST ! 7000 colors. They have a lot of how to powder coat videos. You don't need to use Eastwood Paint Prep - Why pay shipping on Acetone? Did you use high temp silicone tape? Spray it hot - it's called Hot Flocking. You can paint glass and other things that have Bondo on them by Hot Flocking

hi bro good results but wow what a process... i have powder coated in factories for a living and the settings on the gun are 25 for coating 10 is for second coating over powder coated parts.. on our guns we half the voltage to re coat or second coat the part ... ...we de grease part then acid etch it rinse then chuck it in the oven to dry and degas it ..use paint prep on it..then air dry it with compressed air then spray it then bake it all part come out flawlessly with full adhesion .. prep takes about 20 min withoven preheated to 214 deg c... not picking on you you have done an awsome job just seems like alot of exta work

  • @GabeMouldy

I'm looking to get into powder coating myself. This way super cool to watch the process. I'm basically wanting to do dirt bike, ATV, and automotive stuff. So the dirt bike hubs really hit close to home. The color was awesome. I even thought the chrome actually looked good as well. I am curious what you are doing for the wheels and spokes as well. Again I'm super impressed and you made it look so easy. I had a few questions though. For the masking off the surface area's, what kind of tape did you use? For the chrome finish, could you use a clear powder coat to really make it shine? Not sure if you've experimented with that. Are you planning on applying a clear powder to the hubs? Or would that not change anything. As for the shock body black or a darker bronze or cooper color would look bitchin I think. Keep up the good work,

Thanks man! -I use high heat masking tape it comes with the Eastwood gun. - yes if you only use chrome you need to put a clear coat over or it will loose it’s shine. -And no need to use a clear coat on what I did since that top coat is strong!

It's great video. Can i ask you a question. I want to powder coat my brake calipers, but originaly has a logo. Can i powder it, put a logo and then put some clear coat on the top to prevent logo from scratch?

I started using a small spray booth. A blaster wouldn’t be a bad idea actually but it takes up a lot of space. I would eventually like to have a Pcv pipe set up for spraying

Thank you! I picked up the blaster locally it is a pretty simple industrial sized one. Big thing to watch for when you buy one is if it has its own vacuum and other then that you want a good compressor.

what kind of air compressor have you been using for the blast cabinet? Been reading up on a lot of forums stating you need some beefy specs to maintain blasting for more then a couple minutes.

I’m using a older one doesn’t have crazy power or anything it’s like 5.8 at 90 cfm I think. Does the job, occasionally I will have to let the compressor catch up if going full on for a bit. The key when your running a smaller compressor is to make sure you have clean air because the small compressor will get hot and add moisture into your air

You need to screw that defuser out a little more to, the powder is blowing out sideways to much, you don't have to blow with it in on bigger stuff to, its alot easier

Hi, good job man but I have a question, why do you paint when the object is very hot and not at normal temperature? I see a lot of videos where people paint with ambiental temperature. Maibe you tell this on the video but I don’t understand because I don’t speak good english. Thanks!

The first coat is fine to do at room temperature but the second coat a little heat will help it stick on better
