I'm a newbie and I'm trying to powder a shifter linkage with black and a red bar and shield on it I got the black on fine but I'm having a hard time filling the bar and shield, it's an imprint on the part and I'm trying to fill it with red and I need some tips or ideas.

@@danielshovelheader9415 did you ever figure it out I'm new at this just wondering. From the videos I watch but I would say is I would powder coat the part and then if there's riding or something I wanted powder coated different color after I powdered everything black I would have wiped it off before cooking it with my finger just wiping the powder off to the bare metal where the writing is cooked it black pulled it out and then put the other color on after it was cooked and then cook it with that color

Why do people insist on doing a ground rod at the booth when you could just run a number 4 grnd wire off of your electrical surface panel that is attached to the ground terminal, after all you're building very likely has a ground rod that is driven at least 4 to 6 feet? Why reinvent the wheel. The electrons are traveling at the speed of light. Being a few feet closer is not gonna make any difference. The size of the conductor would matter, and the size of the conductivity that also does matter. 🤔

I have had an Eastwood gun for about 5 years. I learned by accident that the low voltage setting is far better for a re-coat or clear. Thanks for backing me up on that. I also love to cook and bake... food that is, and the first thing to learn there is that the temp and time is as important if one is cooking dacquoise or a valve cover. That temp for that time is crucial! Nice work on touching on the basics and helping us fellows tune up our methods. I have a FLIR to get the temps right, and for many other reasons, but the DeWalt temp gun is better in the powder coating world. Thanks for all the work you do on your channel. I also love Prismatic as not only is it good, it give time and temp on each colour and they ship quickly. Eastwood is the only other powder I have used but just having an exact time and temp is just key. It is stunning how every powder is different. Thanks again... Bobby

Great Video, I'm thinking of getting into powder coating . I work for a powder coating company that makes the powder coating. We make and sell about 100,000 pounds of powder coat a day. All colors, red, blue, green ,black, yellow, purple,, clearcoat, metallic you name it , we start with a mix, then extrude the mix, then my job, grind the extruded paint chips into a fine powder that is sifted though a fine mesh screen. Then quality control tests the paint to see if it's good to be shipped. I've been working there about half a year and I've often wondered how in the heck do they get that powder to stick to metal surfaces, thanks to you and others on KZread, now I know, thanks great vid.

I've been powdercoating outdoor drinking fountains for 2 years for a major drinking fountain/stainless steel sink company I can 99% guarantee you have probably used our drinking fountains at some point...I'll just say the name of the company starts with an "E" and ends with a "Y," but I digress. Anyhow, for the last 2 years, I've been powdercoating outdoor drinking fountains and bottle fillers, and I absolutely love it. After our fountains come from sandblasting, we power wash them with steam/water/soap, and give them a steam rinse, before sending them through the dryer oven for 5 minutes (minimum), after which they are cooled down then powdercoated. We hang our fountains on a trolley system that is grounded. We use a Gema system where the voltage and amperage is automatically controlled, though I generally set the micro voltage to 100 (full power) and milli-amps to 75. I have played with the amperage and turned it as low as 20-25, but 75 seems to work well. I was just wondering if this is a good setting. I would greatly appreciate any feedback! Thanks in advance! I also have a few questions regarding "PCC mode," particularly with gloss-finish powder. Again, I would HIGHLY appreciate any feedback! Kind regards.

Your close with kv and amps but also miles out Kv and amps are linked together you cannot drop amps and leave kv high as you note You can either control kv or amps, but basically to coat anything difficult such as corners recoat etc less energy helps, lower kv manually or automatically (using amps) and play with bun to part distance

  • @Ivan-lw2ux

Even with you amperage on 11 you can still get back ionization in some circumstances like recoats, fine particle size powders, less than optimal ground. 50kv and 11-20ma is a good start for recoats. If back ionization still occurs back down the amperage....then the kv's if problems still persist. Ive gone as low as 35kv for some very fine particle size powders on recoats. Ive been at this 23 years...keep up the content👍

We are a super small shop and we have the same attitude. We dont let out crap work. It hurts to rework jobs both in terms of money and time. You shoot a job it takes 4 hours and it bounces now your out 4 hours plus reworking now your calling up because your late but keep quality up

As a home DIY project can't we just prime the work piece by sanding it and then blowing it off with compressed air? I don't have a sandblaster but I want to get into powder coating, it looks so cool. Im sorry for the dumb question, I just found out about this stuff a month ago and I want to learn, lol!! Thanks!

In your experience, what's the best way to strip powder coating? I have looked at many chemical strippers and they are super pricey for hobbyists! Bead blast is very time consuming and the parts I want to strip are motorcycle engine parts that require tons of masking.

Subbed! Do you have tips on static pressure vs working pressure? I have a tank regulator set to 20 PSI then about 20 foot of hose, and an inline regulator 3M accuspray at 5-10 PSI. Before I start to coat, the regular is at mainly 20ish PSI and I get a big dollop of wasted power that shoots out if I have a full container. Then the gun starts spraying at 5-10 psi if continued spraying. How do I mitigate this? Would you recommend the Eastwood gun dual voltage over the Chicago electric HF gun?

Air into gun should be under 5psi, 20 is way too much. Eastwood is way better than harbor freight

Wear a resiperator that fits your face for coating, they also have fresh air systems with hoods. We use a blasting helmet with pumped in air, which goes through filters to make sure the co2 and other stuff does not get in.
