Don Allphin Sr. and Jr. head out on Flaming Gorge to show how to catch lake trout with jigging techniques without snagging the fish, even when they are heading towards their spawning beds. Don Allphin Sr. shows how to jig Pout Bombs, a lure manufactured and sold by Christenson's Lakeshore tackle and available through (among others) Sportman's Warehouse (www.sportmans.com) www.sportsmans.com/fishing-ge.... Don shows how to catch lake trout up to 35 pounds without snagging them while they are near their spawning beds. Don uses Viscious Monofialent line, 52 inch custom made rods, and 30-pound no name braid with 16-pound Sunline fluorocarbon leader.

Yes, April/ May is fantastic for me as well. In my book “Fishfinders” I show several screen shots of huge lakers slashing through schools of stocked rainbows. Very cool!’

I really enjoy jigging macks, a lake near by is a little over populated with them. Right after ice out I will work the deep drop offs near the public launch right after the state stalks a bunch of 7 to 10 inch rainbows where the big ones are stacked up waiting to ambush. The best i have landed is 37 inches and 17 and a half pounds but i seen one breach after a seagull that had to have been at least 40 pounds, the seagull did get away but that was still a sight to see.
