Thank you so much for your comment. I just put out another installment today. Part 5 will have the actual pour and I am also thinking about adding some lessons learned.

Since you have done this, is there anything you would have changed?

Yes. The small strip of concrete in front of the sink. I had used the fiberglass mesh all over the project. I would imbed some steel rebar/wire instead to add strength to this skinny section. I did have a small crack develop in that area. Hardly visible but there. Truthfully I can’t say it was the mesh’s fault. Could easily have been the constant shifting of my 120+ year old Maine house 😳😂. All the best - Matt & Kat (Things).

Did you glue/silicone the durock onto the plywood?

I used some clear silicone. Just a few thin beads around the edges and a few in the field. Don’t want them too thick and end up adding thickness to the layers over all. Just holds it in place for the rest of your work.

Thanx. Wait till you see how it turned out. We are very happy with it. And my renter is too 😂. Still have a way to go before our side kitchen is ready for new countertops. All the best.

Must be nice to be retired while all of the time in the world...lol. That looks like a lot of work, but it looks like you are enjoying yourself!

If it funny - some days Kat & I feel like our lives are much more busyin retirement. Lol. But while more busy also more fulfilling. I definitely thought we would be done the construction by now - and some days we just can’t get the motivation to pick up the hammer - so we just go for a hike instead. All the best.

What is the thickness of the cement board?

Chris - as I remember it - the 1/2” cement board (hardie) actually measured closer to 3/8”. The lowes website lists it at .42”. I talk about this in one of the five videos in the series (not sure which one) and how I dealt with it. Hope this helps. All the best - Matt & Kat (Things)
