Tips to help your installation go smoothly:
- pre-mark stud locations on your wall prior to installing the rails
- take your time installing the rails as these are critical and not adjustable once installed
- use a laser to project lines and assist with leveling
- use clamps to hold things securely while fastening components together
- double-check appliance openings in both the front and back
- establish layout from a fixed point such as centerline of faucet/sink
- take care with the bottom cabinet legs as they can be damaged with excessive loading and force
Helpful info for Ikea kitchen cabinets:
- use the planner/design tools on the IKEA website to layout your cabinets and get a price quote
- cabinets are universal and can be configured for virtually any space
- quick turnaround time for materials compared to a custom build
- IKEA also sells countertops which can be helpful if you don't want to shop around at separate stores
- end panels can be chosen to match the finish of the doors and cabinets

It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better kzread.infoUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

So f*ing concise, clear, to the point. Other how-to's on IKEA tend to ramble and bring in far too many asides. For a quick and dirty beginning tutorial this is an A+. Thanks so much for making it!

Thanks for explaining that you screw in the side filler pieces from inside the cabinet. Also, that the screws are specifically made for particleboard. I was just about to drill them from the outside. Uggg. LOL

Lol. That would have been a trip To Ike lol. Thanks for watching
You are so clear and concise. Our laundry room cabinets arrive Monday from Ikea. Our ceilings are 91.5" and I want to install the upper cabinets as close to the ceiling as possible. How far down from the ceiling can we go with the suspension rail (taking into consideration we will install the smallest crown molding to finish it off)? Thank you in advance!
@DIYDudes

Measure from the top of the cabinet down to the top of the inside of the upper metal hook that clips onto the rail. That distance will be the amount you need above the top of the rail to the ceiling I would at add at least a 1/4”. It will be a very tight fit since you have to lift the anchor point over top of the rail for it to sit on the anchor which is at least a 1/4”
Decorative strips... clamps are your friends. ;->

Yes I was going to say buy some clamps to install your bottom strip but then I seen you use them for your side panels.
Thanks for the vid. Any particular reason you built a base for the bottom instead of using the hanging rail there?
@DIYDudes
2 жыл бұрын
I had a sump pump under the main cabinet and a lot of messy plumbing. I had to cut the base cabinet pretty significantly so I wanted to make sure it had a solid support. Lots of people build bases for the cabinets rather than the rail though. Both ways work great.
Do the black shims that allow you to attache the base cabinets without the rail come with the cabinets or did you have to buy them separately? Thanks for much for the video I am sure I will need to rewatch it a few times during my install.

I believe they come with them. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for doing this video. I notice that you can just about see the white frame behind your doors. Once they're fulling installed and adjusted can you still see the white or is it hidden? Wish ikea made the frames to match the colour of the doors to avoid this issue!
@DIYDudes

Hey there yeah the doors adjust so You don’t see any of the white it looks good once it’s all done. They make the bases all Universal so they are more customizable
Ah...you finally bought a hammer instead of the axe you used In another video :-)

Yes I did. Lol. That’s actually an old roofers hammer. Axe/hammer. I have a newer one as well and it is super handy. Thanks for watching!
FYI: When installing IKEA cabinets, the rail system and hinges are sold separately. Great video, really helped.

Thanks for watching and yes they are sold separately but IKEA is actually great about putting together a package before you check out actually make sure you have everything you need including the rails

@@DIYDudes What's the reason not to use the rail for the base? Thx!
@DIYDudes
Жыл бұрын
I normally would, just in this application I had to work around some plumbing and a few things. The one cabinet base i had to cut apart so it wouldn’t have been able to hang properly

@@DIYDudes thx for the reply. Could I get your opinion on Ikea kitchen vs the more custom kitchens or there? Not looking at the money part... If money was not part of the equation is Ikea still in the running?
@DIYDudes
Жыл бұрын
Depends on the cabinet maker and the quality of materials they use. Honestly a custom cabinet maker I would assume would be better quality
Tip! The feet have a tendancy to fall off. To prevent this, buy some 14mm small washer head scews. Take a look at the black foot plate; you will notice that there is a hole in it. Fit the foot plate as instructed by by ikea and then locate the little hole. Drive your washer head screw into the hole and then attach adjustable feet. A more secure fit. Hope that helps.

#10 construction screws at the recommended spacing. You may need to use anchors as well
What screws did you use to pull the cabinets together. Did they come with the cabinets?
@DIYDudes
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tricia they came with the cabinets. But they are partial board screws with the length 1/4 “ less then the material I’m screwing together (so you don’t punch through)
Which model cabinets are these? Knoxhult? Sorry if you addressed this in the video.

Don't forget to square the doors to the cabinet body using the adjustment screws on the hinges, after the doors are mounted. The 3rd from the left door in the video is pretty far out of whack.

Hey there no I haven’t and I wouldn’t. They are not meant to get wet.
You don’t have to press so hard with the drill. Let the drill do the work Use glue on those susceptible wooden dowels joints
