    Great video, my dog has a bell by the door he rings whenever he needs to go out. I don't remember teaching him that but our old dog knew that trick too yet died before we got our current dog. It's eerie, anyways keep up the great work. :)

    That's amazing. I think your puppy just picked up the clues. The door bell must have been the clue. That's amazing. This is why, I think dogs are more intelligent than we think so and we force them to learn by treats, tools or force.

    This is amazing! And something I actually came here today to ask advice for. Saro, if you see this, have you got any ideas as to how to teach my 10 week old puppy to indicate somehow that she needs to go for potty? She's "fully" house-trained since day one, due to my diligence in taking her out, tirelessly day and night. No accidents in the house, zero!!! But I frequently take her out when she doesn't need it, she just turns around and scurries back towards the door. She hates going outside! She even runs away from me and hides when I pick up the leash and put my coat on. But she goes to potty beautifully once I put her down to the ground in the garden. Admittedly the time of the year for her being so young isn't ideal, we've got snow, sleet and ice and her coat is very thin and scarce, needs a coat/suit on in this weather. I wish she'd get to like going out a bit more, and after digressing, yes I'd really love to teach her to tell me when she needs the potty. Sometimes she snifs the floor and is about to squat, that's when I've been too late to take her out. But without a drop on the floor, I've always managed to grab her and take her out. She scratches the door when we are coming back in, she really wants back in the warm. But she never, ever does that on the inside to ask to go out!

    That is a common issue with puppies. I feel that it is because the puppies are lacking confidence and assurance so they don't feel secure or comfortable to be out. So,, what that means is, that you need to work on building the bond with your puppy so your puppy can focus on you and take cues from you rather than making decisions on it's own. Basically, work on your puppies daily five essential needs by watching this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYSAtsxuqrG5hto.html and your puppies socialization by watching this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6WgkqmhYNWoqbQ.html

    Hi Saro, thanks for the video. My dog is an older male (around 8-9 years) that we just adopted. He doesn't pee or poop in the house, but he won't stop marking outside, pulling the leash, smelling everything. He's the fake tough guy you mentioned in the other video. I try to train him to walk well, but I'm really struggling. He's just too excited all the time.

    Try improving the walk plus add some basic obedience to improve his confidence and outlook in life so he can start to pay attention to you to get cues from you instead of himself figuring out what to do. He is looking for info from you.

    So I can understand having an issue with your dog pulling on the leash. But have you ever heard that dog owners needing to be trained first? How can a dog pull on the leash unless its walking ahead of the owner? A dog is a dog and it looks to the owner to be in control, if you're not showing them that then someone has to... the dog. So basically the dog walks you. The dog shouldn't walk ahead of you. When it starts to get ahead or pulls, stop. Stay there until the dog gets the point, like sitting down. After repetition they'll see that you are in control. As for a dog marking and sniffing OUTSIDE, it's a dog. Thats what dogs do. They are animals, not people. Read up on why dogs mark and sniff outside so you understand. Us dog owners, or pet owners, say they are our friend or family, we talk to them, but we can't train the animal out of them. By the sounds of it you already house trained them. You're ahead of the game. So Be happy and accept that they are dogs.

    It really is very simple. But many dog owners aren't willing to do the hard work and suffer the inconvenience and sleep interruption at night. I've just done it with my new, now 10 weeks old puppy and I can proudly say that she hasn't had a single accident indoors. And no, she's not one of those "smartest" breeds but a toy breed, often notorious for being difficult to house-train. It took me constant observation at first, being on guard, on my toes, ready to act any minute. And getting up at night to potty her. But gradually it got easier and so much so that I am very relaxed now and know her habits better and she can go a good 3-4 hours in the daytime in between potty breaks which is all relaxing time for me and I no longer have to keep a constant observation on her. Only she doesn't know how to ask to go out, but I will take her out regularly and were nicely getting into a routine. She knows outside is the place to potty, not indoors. It is really quite very simple! Dogs are smart, regardless of the breed.

    Dogs need and like to do their business outside of the house so take a weekend and focus on training him to do it's buisness outside and not inside. Take him every 2 to 3 hours whether he has to go or not and let him do or not do his business. When inside, keep him under control, attached to you or on a leash by you. Repeat this for the entire weekend and your adult dog will be house trained. Follow this instruction and if you don't succeed, let me know and I will come up with a different plan.

We have new artificial lawn and are getting a puppy and I don't want him peeing all over the fake lawn, we have a small mulched area at the top of the garden with a few trees and I am hoping I can train him to go there and not in any random spot outside. Other than taking him out regularly on a leash to that spot is there anything else I can do for him to know peeing on the fake grass is not allowed? Thank you :)

    How old is it? Do you take it outside or do you just send it out and then comes back and poops inside? I suggest taking your dog outside, on leash for a long walk. If you walk your dog and chooses not to do it's business outside and comes inside and does it, it might be that the elements outside is not helping it to relax and do it. Perhaps, you need to walk it somewhere else or longer and as soon as it does, praise and celebrate it. Give me some more info so I can help.

    Try to walk your puppy after feeding. Try to walk as long as possible till he does his business. If he comes in and does it at home, that's a sign that he doesn't feel comfortable to do it outside. It's a sign of lack of confidence. Change the location. Focus on confidence building exercises.

    9 weeks old should not be aggressive yet. It might be challenging you and testing you or it might be in play form and attitude. Sometimes puppies are challenging and get frustrated easly because they are not getting what they want and that may come across as aggression. This is the most common sense approach to potty training I have ever heard! There is no doubt in my mind that it would work! I trained my dachshunds (3) to go on pee pads & that was a BIG mistake. Now they pee on anything that is on the floor, ie. rugs, cloths, magazines, anything. I can't have a rug on my floors! Or anything else for that matter. I sure wish I had seen your method when they were young & being trained. They are 13 & 14 yrs old now. Do you have good food recipes for dogs! My beagle trained himself...you are right, they are very intelligent! I love beagles!!!! Thank you Judie

    It would be really hard to train a 14 year old to start peeing indoors as it has become a natural habit for him. Unless he is having accidents then you can make him wear diapers. Otherwise, as humans we can't force dogs to do things that are not natural. It also depends on your breed, personality and willing to change. So, I would just take him outside with an umbrella or somthing to let him pee outside rather than stressing yourself for something that is not realistic.

    Hi! I have a neo daniff rescue that is estimated to be around 5 years old, we just got her a few days ago. She has heart worms and the medication that she is on makes her drink A LOT but she’ll only pee outside twice a day (usually at night) and she’s had accidents in the house. The problem is trying to get her to go outside during the day because any little sound it’s automatically tail between the legs. We will spend up to 20 minutes outside with nothing but her constantly looking around frozen in one spot but as soon as we get inside she will go in the house. How do I get her to focus on going potty outside during the day without being scared to death?

  • @SaroDogTraining

    @SaroDogTraining

    4 жыл бұрын

    Start working your dog every day, twice a day for 15 minutes to get her confidence up. That is what is happening and she needs to learn to trust you, take cues from and start to bond with you and redirect it's focus to you rather than things that are happening outside. The more you work on the training, the sooner she will get over it and the better she will get. You can start for free and watch the following videos to get started on training each command today. He pees on hidden areas and has been doing this for years. Most of the rooms in my house smell like pee and I have to spray most parts of the carpet with the special dog pee spray but I still smell the urine sometimes. For two days I been keeping him in his kennel and taking him out to pee on the leash every hour. When do you think I should start letting him walk around the house again? Puppies 2 months and older are safe to walk outside as long as you are carful and just clean your puppies paws when you comeback from the walks. Keep the walks short. About 15 minutes, about 3 times a day. Dogs are not vegetarians. They need to eat about 75% of meat and only 25% veggies on daily basis.

    my puppy is a 2 months, and i heard that we have to mix wet and dry food together for a couple of days so he can get use to biting on something.. would you recommend just giving him a small portion of wet food??

    A couple of things, First my puppy will go over to the door frequently, even after she just went outside. She wants to go outside, but then doesn't go. It is hard to determine when she actually has to go, or just wants outside. Second, unrelated to potty training, but how do I train her to stay out of the cat box? I have tried ones that I thought would be difficult for her to get into, as well as locations I thought would make it harder, but she is constantly in it. Thanks so much!

    When you come in after the walk outside, you should keep it under control, either on a leash or in a crate...and don't let it get near the pads. Remove the pads and take it out every 2 hours to allow him to do his business outside.

    Good evening! We have a 12 weeks old Beagle puppy that we took in as a friend for our 7 year old rescue dog. We have been following these steps for about 2 to 3 weeks now and even taking out more frequently than 2 hours and still continuously has accidents.. At one point today he had an accident 3 times in under 10 minutes. 2 pees and 1 poo.. Our beagle puppy sleeps in his crate all through the night (will sleep about 8 hours straight) without an accident while sleeping, but uses the bathroom continuously throughout the day. Could this be a factor?? Thanks!

    Hi! Love your videos! I have an issue with my chihuahua(6 months), she got used to peeing and pooping on puppypads during the first weeks, and now she rarely goes potty outside, even though I take her out several times a day. When she does go potty outside, I reward her, and if I catch her in the act inside I tell her no. I live in a cold climate, but she never complains whiles walking. Can you help me understand what I am doing wrong and what I should be doing?

    Hi I just got a puppy she’s 7 weeks old when can I start potty training? Anything I can do now or is she too young? Also my pug is now a little over a year and I’ve tried everything to not go potty in the house he spends a lot of time outside now but when he comes in he will pee when I’m not paying attention and it’s always on clothes on the floor or trash bags as if he’s marking. I have sprayed marking sprays and cleaned very well but it’s always the bags he sees in the house or clothes on the floor that my kids leave.

    I have a question. Really struggling, my 2 year old daschund goes outside to the toilet and then if I leave the house she messes in the house. She also messes in the crate and pushes the tray out, she has jumped onto the sofa and gone for a wee. She goes out so much. As soon as I leave the house even if for 5 minutes to go to the shop, she will wee and poo everywhere and bark, whine. Please help ☹️

    The reason she does that is to give you a message that she doesn't like something. In this case, I believe is being left home alone. That comes from a lack of confidence and not knowing what to do in this case. I highly suggest teaching her the wait command. By doing this you are helping her to gain confidence using training and also you are teaching and communicating to her what you need her to do when you leave the house and she will know what to do when she is alone. To help you, even more, I have 2 videos that I'd like you to watch and start learning and implementing them with her. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iHZtssSdctS2o6g.html And also this: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXyk1thvaMucm6g.html

    This issue has to do with the fact that they have not been rescued yet, emotionally and mentally. You have rescued them physically but you haven't been able to help them to be rescued mentally. That could be because you are still feeling sad for them or are emotionally feeling sorry for them...I would say focus on helping them to move on. It has been a year which is a long time to yet be living in the past. I highly suggest watching my adoption/rescuing video series and please let me know if you have questions. I would love to help you out. Please watch all the following videos: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jIKny8WJZ7atqpc.html

    Our puppy (stray), Edie Mae is beautiful and about 3 months old. I have never seen a dog drink so much water!!! Over 40 years we have had many animals, all strays except 2. Never have we had so much trouble house breaking or getting one to sleep all night without waking up to go pee. We even cut off her water intake about 7 pm and take her out about 10 pm before we go to bed. My question is how can we get her to start going to bed and sleep at night. I'm seriously thinking about a kennel, but husband says no that just trains them to potty in the house. Any comments?

    Try changing its food for a week or so and see what happens. Instead of feeding dry food or kibble, try feeding home made, home cooked or raw diet for a week to experiment. Dry food drains out the moisture in their body and forces them to drink lots of water.

    I rescued an abused dog 3 months ago. He refuses to go potty in the back yard, he normally holds it until we take him for a walk to the park or has an accident in the house. It has to be the park, not the front yard or any other house but the park. I take him out to the backyard in the morning, after meals, and through out the day. Sometimes he goes, but most of the times he just holds it. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks

    This is the age that you shape and teach the dog what you want it to do and where to do its business for instance. The key here is to keep your puppy under control as much as you can. Keep it on a leash, indoors and outdoors for a while, confined it and control and manege it as much as you can. As mentioned in the video, take your puppy out before and after every meal, playtime, sleep, activity, for 48 hours, which is basically a weekend and you will conquer this challenge.

    I have a plott hound. He was a rescue. Only thing I can not get him to do is fetch. I have tried so many different methods over the years. Nothing works. He doesn't like to put things in his mouth other then raw hid. I even soaked a tennis ball in chicken broth. He wouldn't pick it up. Couple times i get close but than he stops. Is it true sometimes dogs just don't want to do certain things personality wise or can he be trained?

  • @SaroDogTraining

    @SaroDogTraining

    Some dogs are not meant to do things that some other dogs tend to do. That is normal and it is not in them to do it. It's their personality. You need to focus on what he is good at or better at. For instance my beagle, doesn't howl or bay just like some beagles who don't. Although, I love to hear him howl but I just focus on the fact that he is good at other things like doing obstacle course in agility and playing chase, for instance where many beagles are not good at.

    That is a perfect activity for a plot Hound. It is also a perfect activity and training for beagles. Scent training that is. Regarding your question, I would suggest teaching your dog, the sit and stay commands so when you are petting other dogs, you can ask him to sit and stay while you pet other dogs which also taking the time to train those commands will help you to gain more control over your current dog before you bring the beagle home. So, watch the following video to learn more about what to do before bring a new dog home. kzread.info/dash/bejne/q5Wo28x_kqurh5c.html Also watch the following videos to teach your dog the it and stay command. You can also use the entire video series to train your dogs(s) all the commands. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZHeq1qicfq26pbA.html

    Hi Saro! Thanks for the video. Do you have any suggestions how to transition your dog from potty outside back to the wee wee pad? My dog was potty trained to go outside but he is getting older and can't hold as long as he used to and I can't be home to walk him during the day or can afford a dog walker 5 days a week. So, the only option I can think of is to train him to use the pad so he doesn't have accidents all over the house but can eliminate on the pad. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!!!

    For older dogs instead of training them to go on pads, I suggest pee dippers, underwear. Most pet stores sell them and you just have to find the right size for your dog. I used it for my older dog and it worked well.
