Pothi | Palm-leaf Manuscripts
This is known as a palm-leaf manuscript, or a “Pothi” which is a Punjabi word derived from a Sanskrit word literally meaning "book." There is a lot of academic discourse around what makes something an official binding when it comes to pothi books. Balinese palm-leaf manuscripts also share this characteristic. It is specific to the South-Asian region. I highly encourage book history students who would like to explore these manuscripts further to reach out as these works deserve a lot of love and study.

Hi Brian! Right?! I wish I understood what is on them
They seem to tell very short stories - could they be comics? Well, some Tibetan version of comics -

my understanding from the very brief research is that a lot were religious in nature. Also Balinese, Tibetan, and Indian books had this pothi style. I couldn't tell what the main differences were between all these locations. I'm hoping someone will come in and study them!
