Antique Palm leaf Manuscript & Ghantam stylus
Ghantam (from 13th century) and antique palm-leaf manuscript(s) - two of my all-time favourites. Took me a while to acquire them. This video holds a special place. Take a look at these rare and unique antiques straight out of history.

I think this is the only video on youtube that actually talks about how the writing is done! Very helpful and informative!
This was so informative and beautiful. Thank you for the video!
Great information and demonstration. Thank you.
Very Informative video, thank you for posting it.
Very informative video. I always think why Ganesha hold quill differently in south Indian paintings of Maharshi vedavyas telling Mahabharata and Ganesha writing with quill, different from North Indian painting with same painting of Ganesha holding quill, after watching your video my doubt is resolved. Thank you for such a informative video Sir 🙏✒️
Even Odia has got its 'kutila lipi' (curved font) due to writing on palm leaves. Odisha State museum has around 50,000 such palm leaf manuscripts, in fact even one of your displayed pictures is Odia script.
That was informative...hope to see similar videos soon!

Where do I get palm leaf and stylus?
How we can get palm leave.
Sir, what was The Mahabharata written on and what ink was used? What about the 4 Vedas?
@ykantiques
4 жыл бұрын
Hello Poojita. Mahabharata is dictated by sage Vyasa and written by lord Ganesha.Ganesha has used his elephant tooth(tusk) as a writing instrument and written on palm leaves.No ink is used. When you write on palm leaves with a stylus (ghantam) it makes a deep impression and it can be read as it is.For better clarity some fine charcoal power is rubbed on the surface of the palm leave and wiped clean. The black powder settles in the groves of the letters and looks like black letters. 4 vedas are compiled by Sage Vyasa, Known as Veda Vyasa on palm leaves.Here again no ink is used.
Can u make a book for me?
Thank you so much sir....

Is there any possibilities to get photo copies of tamil Manuscripts..
@ykmurthy1599
3 жыл бұрын
@@psygstudio Hello,Photocopying a manuscript is not recommended .Instead you can take pictures of the manuscript and save in the computer. If you want prints,you can take prints from the photographs. If you can afford there are still people available who can give you a copy of the Manuscript written on the palm leaf itself.
