Potassium-Friendly Cooking Demonstration: The Cooking Doc

Are you struggling to control your potassium levels? If you have kidney disease, you may be at risk for hyperkalemia, or high potassium, because your kidneys cannot remove the extra potassium in your blood.
The good news is you can manage potassium levels through the food you eat. Dr. Blake Shusterman, The Cooking Doc is a nephrologist on a mission to help you eat healthy while living with kidney disease. Dr. Blake will show you how to prepare and cook a delicious low potassium meal as well as:
• Potassium considerations when you are cooking
• Understanding potassium in your foods
• Substitutions for high potassium ingredients
• Cooking tips and hacks

Your book should be recommended to all patients at their initial visit because most parents are so distraught hearing about a chronic disease. Thanks God bless you.

Dr Blake thank you for being there! Your the only one that I've found so far that actually makes sense to me. Been to Renal Dietitian and was useless. The info given was so limited. I suffer of course from stage 3 plus high Potassium and I can never figure out a nice combination of what to eat as I always worry about the Potassium. Just found you recently and started viewing your recipes. I'm planning on buying your cookbook. You are a blessing to me right now. I just purchased the Israeli Coucous to make this recipe and it was absolutely delicious. It's great to have a meal without worrying about me digesting too much P. Bless you Doc.

This dish sounds delicious! Being a starch freak, I would have a hard time limiting my consumption to one cup. The following confuses me: I am given to understand that the #1 cause of CKD is diabetes. That being the case, isn't this dish (which is mostly pasta) - or even your suggested rice alternative - DIABETES UNFRIENDLY and, therefore, actually CKD-unfriendly, as well? I would greatly appreciate a response. Thank you!

I am in stage 4 CKD, my Nephrologist has told me no diet or medicine would help me at this stage. I put myself on a plant-based "no salt" diet and have lost 20 lbs so far. I am running out of ideas on what to cook. I will not be having dialysis because I am 76 years old, have other diseases and don't want to put myself to 3-4 days a week for 3 hours at a time.. Do you believe the diet and weight loss will make a difference in stabilizing or slowing down my kidney function ?
