If you keep melting it for a while, it will start bubbling and white solid will appear at the end. That's KClO4 with KCl impurities which can be extracted by recrystallization in hot water

Acetone is better as NaCl is insoluble in acetone. NaClO4 is soluble about 53 grams in acetone. I dont remember the specific numbers for potassium though

I'm pretty sure it's just the sugar. Did this again with a sugar cube and it was a similar result
