Each of my PPS clients are so different. One, in particular inspires me so much. He is 70 years old and stronger than most of my athletes half his age. Thank you for your insight, well articulated.

Thank you for this information. My mother and cousin contracted polio at the same time in 1948. Both developed post polio syndrome as they aged. When it happened to my mom in the late 70’s I thought she was becoming neurotic, gripping my arm like a vice when walking in public, panicking, etc. Later we learned about post polio syndrome, and that she really was losing strength and balance. But sadly we learned about it after she had gone through an intense rehab suggested by the doctor who ran the rehab department at one of the hospitals. My sister worked for him, and he thought it would help my mom. Most of the people there were stroke victims and accident victims who had normal muscle before they came for rehab. My mom was worse off after attempting the rehab. As you said, strenuous exercise is not right for post polio patients.

So sorry for your mother, really. Pps must learn patience and optimism.

Thank you Margret I came down with polio in 1955 at 11 months. I started suffering with PPS approximately 15 years ago. My biggest mistake during my life was working out till exhaustion thinking I could regain strength in my legs. Turns out that that deteriorated what muscle I had left that much sooner. My PPS is now progressing rapidly and in different areas. Seems that all doctor directed physical therapy only gives me short term relief. I’ve had to learn to stop doing something well before I’m tired. Great advice, thank you

I am a retired physician at the age of 65. I contracted polio virus in 1956 when I was 9 months old. Out of 150 people who had polio at the same time, I am the only survivor, and I am very grateful. 2 years ago I started experiencing peripheral neuropathy in my affected right leg. My biggest problem is feeling pain in my right hip, mainly in the sciatic nerve. I really don’t know what to do about it. Multiple injections with steroids have been done under fluoroscopic guidance. I still think there is an additional factor at the L4-5 and S1 region. Unfortunately, nobody knows what is going on. All I can say is that it is unbearable to live your life with a fireball in your hip. Any suggestions?

Can I use a rebound (trampoline) to do exercises? I am a senior and my leg is not bad because my Dad caught my symptoms early and immediately brought me to the doctor. They immediately started exercising my leg. I have a slight limp, barely noticeable. But I want to jump on my trampoline.

Thank you so much. I write you from France and it is a desert for post polios care and treatment. Diagnostic and that's all. I had polio at 6, completely paralized except respiratory functions. I had then a good, full treatment in Lausanne, Institut du docteur Nicod thanks a neighbour who was responsable for Croix Rouge in our little town. I recovered, I have a good, busy life with love. But.. syndrom post polio. I could not believe it, for me polio was past. Just diagnostic, no treatment - "be old and shut up". No ! So thank you so much : there is always a Way. Amitiés de France

Thank you for this video. I had polio in 1956. My legs are getting weaker so I am using a powerchair with Honda Odessey wheelchair ramp van. I am starting PE next week to strength my legs after a fall that kept me from exercising. I will be interested to see if PE theraphist is aware of approach to treat PostPolio.

Hi Margaret. I`m going to talk about my father... and I'll try to explain with "my English" (sorry) He has polio (both legs and left arm) and now, unfortunately he is suffering post polio syndrome in his right arm; but only from his shoulder to his elbow. He can't flex his arm, even, the arm looks more thin (like there is no muscle there) but he can move his hand. My Question, Once he has lost her mobility in this arm (99%lost) Can/should he do something to recover the mobility?. Once the post-polio syndrome appear, could re-appear in other part of the body in few years? I hope you understand me Margaret. Thx for your pieces of advice in the video.

I wish I had access to some of these facilities but...just hope i would get help😔😓
