This partnership was not just between Scott and Tessa, it was, and is still between their families. The sacrifices made by the parents are incomparable. I’ve read the two books and boy, what a ride for these two. But I honestly don’t know how Scott could still have those girlfriends with such tight schedule.

Scott was never vacant. He always had Tessa on the ice, while enjoying his girlfriends on the side. Best of both worlds. Lucky jerk.

Tessa got her speech abilities from her dad.

In North America, it seems that the female skater's family is often richer than the male's family. How many poor families put their 5/6 year old daughter into expensive skating lessons? Sometimes it seems like the male partner has an inferiority complex or something. Like he always keeps in mind the class difference between the two. There is a top USA male ice dancing partner that seems like that. Maybe that's why those skating partners often don't have a romantic relationship or marry each other.

I don't think there's a class difference that's really all that significent but more like a cultural difference - Scott's family is from a small rural town and Tessa's family is from the city.
