Post-Obstructive Diuresis - Diagnosis, Pathophysiology, Fluid Repletion, Management, Complications

WhiteBoard style lecture on a rare but potentially life threatening condition known as post-obstructive diuresis (POD). This occurs after obstructive uropathy (urinary tract obstruction) if decompressed. The kidneys can start to urinate extremely large volumes leading to signifiant fluid shifts, electrolyte derangements, and hypovolemic shock. Accurately diagnosing and intervening early on this condition can be life saving. This is the third video in a series we published starting with Case Conference #1 diagnosing obstructive uropathy and then followed by a lecture on obstructive uropathy (all linked below). Check out the video for all the details!

This was based on a tremendously impressive case. If my memory serves me, he had about 12L of UO over the first 6 hours or so after decompression of obstructive uropathy. Struggled a bit with hypernatremia given free water losses even with significant fluid resuscitation. It was quite impressive
