    29:10 The narrator has an omniscient, out of time view of the story. That's the driving force behind many theories about who the narrator is. One of the most prevalent, because of his character as a storyteller, is that's it's Usopp telling the story to his and Kaya's kids, or even grandkids

    The best way to explain Haki at this point, without spoilers would be simply to explain the Kanji. The Kanji used for Haki in the manga is 覇気. It is made up of two Kanji: 覇 ("Ha") meaning Supreme (among other things, but Supreme is what we want here,) and 気 ("Ki" meaning Ki, Chi, energy created by the mind, body, and spirit or will. Thus Haki is the "supreme ki" or in better One Piece terms, the Supreme Will.

    One small detail that I like to point out - when Usopp left Syrup Village, there's no way on earth he'd have jumped down dozens of metres unless it was a life or death situation. When he was trying to talk his way back onto the ship, he jumped down that far to get to the scrap heap Sunny was setting sail from without even registering it as a concern. Usopp may not be as brave as the rest of the crew, but he's grown notably stronger.

  • @foggy8298

    @foggy8298

    9 ай бұрын

    While it’s true he’s gotten stronger, please remember to not try to apply actual real world logic to One Piece physics (or lack their of); strength is measured as increasing through story information, not isolated feats. Don’t be an overly serious powerscaling redditor :(

    Ussop is the most brave of any straw hat imo. Because he IS the weakest member. He’s just a guy with a slingshot. And he’s fighting literal monsters. Despite his fear, he still fights. He still risks his life for his friends and their dreams.

  • @yuukinoyuki9064

    @yuukinoyuki9064

    9 ай бұрын

    @@foggy8298 It's not about traditional powerscaling, it's about Usopp not registering it as a fear. Every crewmember has a dream and their progress should be measured realtive to that dream. Usopp's dream is to be a brave warrior so scenes where he does seemingly terrifying things (like fighting Luffy, setting fire to a marine flag or even jumping down a large distance and falling to the ground to apologize) are proof of him getting "stronger."

  • @yuukinoyuki9064

    @yuukinoyuki9064

    @@samgrassman859 I think Usopp becomes the bravest strawhat, but I don't think he starts out that way. Making the decision to stay and fight even when you know you don't match up IS incredibily brave and he always had the ability to do that, but it's actually journeying with the crew that gets him there, one character-building moment at a time.

    About the ship's name, Thousand Sunny is correct (to the point that it's literally just the direct English words pronounced in Japanese), but the stuff about 'Going Merry' vs 'Merry-go' is just a quirk in the translating process. The "-go" is a suffix that gets attached to the names of ships (among many other assorted meanings) so the full name of the ship would be "Going Merry-go" so calling it "Merry-go" is simply shortening the name because it's faster to say, the English equivalent being calling her "The Merry" or just simply "Merry". The Thousand Sunny's full name would be "Thousand Sunny-go" so it'll get shortened to "Sunny-go" with the English equivalent "The Sunny/"Sunny". The "-go" has always been there, it's just not in the English version because it's not something the English language does, so it gets left out.

    One of the things I love about following someone's One Piece journey are the theories they come up with. One of the charms of the series is being able to take the info that Oda has given thus far and try to make sense of what you think is coming next. It's a lot of fun! Almost anything can go as long as you're using the breadcrumbs Oda is leaving behind and it stays within the realm of "One Piece logic." So keep on with the theories, you haven't given anything that someone, somewhere hasn't already thought of at one point or another during the series. 😂

    Drip of sweat is just showing shock and bewilderment (in most mangas, it's a universal thing, same as a little cross like thing to show anger), don't read into it too much. It's just a quirk of a medium in this instance. Same with Sanji. The photographer just didn't took the cap off (basically he is not the sharpest tool in the shed and didn't want to get fired). Tbh I thought it was quite clear that photographer was at fault when I read that part. The best part was Sanji's and Chopper's reactions, I recommend watching the episode in the anime. It was hilarious.

    "Shanks is just more mysterious everytime he's on the page and that's great but it's like...please give me more answers, not just more questions." You've managed to perfectly capture my feelings on one of my most favorite characters in the show. Also! Now that you've finished Post-Enis I can bring up a theory I formed back then. You pointed it out but it's REALLY WEIRD that chapter 441 ends with this sort of 4th wall breaking narration. We got it in the beginning of One Piece but haven't really seen it in the 400+ chapters since then. It could have just been a flair for the dramatics by Oda - but I think it's something much bigger. A key component of the story of One Piece is the story of Roger. It doesn't matter the medium - manga, anime, live action they all have a narrator telling us about how this man plunged us into the Grand Age of Piracy. That's so common a story theme that one would never question a story starting that way. But having a narrator show up AGAIN makes it really seem like there is some 3rd party telling this tale. The perfect way to bookend a story that starts with Roger is by revealing this was all just a tale to a new group of adventurers about a Pirate King named Luffy. So, I think we're going to end with an old Nico Robin in a new "Ohara" teaching history to a group of kids from her log books about her journey with the Pirate King. We're gonna end on some kid asking what Luffy did with the One Piece or what ever happened to him or something and Robin being herself gives the perfect non-answer. But then maybe we pan to several more volumes of logs she's written and in that way we're left with the feeling that the journey for them didn't end even if the story we know did.

    The "post" arcs tend to hit you with the lore until you're dizzy, that's for sure. I love it, but I also think that Oda paces them out really well so that you are always left wanting more. The next arc, Thriller Bark, in contrast, focuses much more on the immediate adventure. Not that there is no lore or worldbuilding at all, but it's definitely not mainly about that. I love your point of the Monkey family being planted one in each of the three great powers, and I think you're right about that being deliberate. I think it's fair to say that Franky has inherited the WILL of Tom, if nothing else. The way of looking at the world and the same drive to create the same sort of wonders, maybe? One of the great things about One Piece is how familial bonds don't need blood relations. Iceberg is great, I love him. And Franky. Your first try at Haki was the best! (Generally, in Japanese the first syllable is slightly more emphasised, you could say. The Japanese "a" sound is closest to the "u" sound in the word "under", for English speakers.) I love how Haki was "officially" introduced here, and how it made the world even more interesting. Yeah, we've seen traces of it up until now, but from now on it's kind of been moved into the limelight, so to speak. I love Robin so much. She looks so serious, but she isn't really. She has a wonderful morbid sense of humour, and is very often on the exact same wavelength as Luffy, only with a serene surface. And she knows the exact right time to grab a man by his balls, which is something to aspire to. And I laughed so much during that whole sequence, the chase was hilarious. The Usopp stuff in all of these three arcs is so great. Everything he does is so relatable, even while you see how much of a mistake it is. But he really, really, needed to actually see Luffy as his captain, to acknowledge that. He HAD been playing at pirates in a lot of ways up until then. But to me it also felt really good to see someone make a terrible mistake and then being able to change for the better from acknowledging he'd been wrong. I love the name Thousand Sunny, but I'm not a native English speaker, so I just think the combination sounds cool. Also because of Iceberg's comment about how he thought of the name. The glimpses of the people of the crew's hometowns and friends (and Vivi is totally still a crew member). Dadan has not been mentioned before, that's all I'm saying. About the catalyst moment, that's something I think One Piece does really well: showing a world that works independently of the main characters. Like you said, the Straw Hats weren't even involved, but it will trigger so many events within this world. Looking forward to Thriller Bark! It has some truly great moments, and I love the sort of adventure it is.

    25:06 It's been unofficially confirmed by showrunner Matt Owens. JLC has been lobbying for that role for years already, and she sort of recently posted online that as soon as the strikes come to an end she would resume her campaign to get the role, and got a reply from Matt saying she didn't need to, that them sending her merchandising was because they want her in, and that they would put everything on paper once the strikes were over

    Jamie Lee Curtis has been unofficially confirmed to play the role of Dr. Kureha. I say unofficially because the people behind live action adaptation have told her the role was hers, that they had to wait for the end of the strike to start talks with her and make it official.

    Don't worry about Manga/Live Action spoilers. The only one was the Garp thing and I think live action did it good. Garp wasn't really much at this point in the manga, just came out of nowhere and was like "Hi, I'm your grandpa". Him being Luffy's grandpa up to this point is meaningless and doesn't affect story at all.

    Another great vlog, Water Seven and Enie's Lobby was such an amazing story arc, and the reveal of Dragon being Luffy's dad and Garp being Luffy's grandpa were jaw dropping moments for sure. I love Sanji's wanted poster. The weird face on it and his reaction to it was hilarious. I know a lot of people didn't care much for Thriller Bark but I enjoyed it a lot and I hope you do too. Post enies lobby is so good. This whole saga is not just well written and a great read but I feel like it has so much character development for the crew. Luffy has to level up in power and in his definition of a captain and I love how Zoro helps him do that both in water 7 and in post enies. Just good stuff.

    Other name to call the Thousand Sunny is either Sunny or Sunny Go. Btw just so you know (this isn't a spoiler cause it was mentioned outside the manga volumes we usually buy) but Shanks became a Yonko 6 years ago. And yes, Blackbeard was indeed trying to go after Luffy. Because he has a significant bounty. Remember Jaya? Blackbeard was after Luffy then. Why he wanted Luffy I believe was also hinted at in Jaya, however I don't want to spoil you, so it'll be obvious later on.
