thank you so much I appreciate your class it was very good. I haven't realized until now that I'd use ( 's ) plus ing form of a verb. Now I hope I can be able to use this correctly.
Thanks a lot for this video. I was confused about this particular point of grammar since I had seen the structure without possesive even in English people's wrtings. Now I see how it works.

Hi, Alex, just a quick clarification: it’s not the gerunds that are possessive but rather the adjectives (my, your, his, her, its, our, their).

thank you teacher!!
How would one then explain the difference between: "Thank you for your help." And "Thank you for your helping."

Thanks for your help is much more common. “Help” is a noun so it’s easy to put it after a possessive adjective (your.) “Helping” is technically okay grammatically, but it’s not common at all. Stick to “Thank you for your help” in this case if your goal is common usage.
thanks my friend it was good information for me.
Thank you so much!!!!
Hi alex, i am regular watching your video. i could not understand the grammer of mary being promoted. can you more elaborate it please.
Thanks a lot
Your lesson is great, but I've not seen possessive gerunds' being used in formal academic english even. Is it that modern English writing style has changed or something? Thanks

Not at all. It's not something you're going to see all over the place, but it is something that exists and does show up in academic texts, news reports, etc.

@@engvidAlex Thank you very for taking time, I've gone over many essays and cambridge english text, for examples, global warming can result in people leading an uncomfortable lives, shouldn't it be people's leading an uncomfortable lives. Please comment

@@engvidAlex hey man, i've been looking for an official article that includes that but i couldn't find one. Can you send a link of one if you can? especially an article from oxford or cambridge would be nice
Awesome!!
. The original examples are absoletely correct, new ones are old-fashioned. Both can be used
Thank you!!!🌄
Could you please explain when noun ( gerund ) is used and when the gerund is not use ? 1 How much studying should I prepare for Tests tomorrow . 2. I will continue my studies tomorrow.
So is the sentence: "I appreciate you coming here" correct?
thank you so much!! after this video, it's clear :)
thank you so much
Thanks.
Ty teacher
thank you
One should be excused then, Alex, because I more often than not get to hear such wrong structure from English native speakers. But I'm not sure whether it's an American or British thing, any idea?
alex, very useful, thks :)
gracias

I am little bit confuse about this sentence ''I am tired of Miguel's complaining.'' I think if I use ''of'' then no need to use 's of Miguel, Anyway it is very helpful for students, thanks
Helpful👍
Hi alex. O the second example can I say 'Mary's promotiong'?
What about this sentence: "We are looking forward to your reading this book" Could you help me, please? Would it be better to say " to you reading this book"?
very nice, thank you!!!

To write in a more sophisticated way
Hola, porque toda la clase lo hablan en ingles den la explicacion en español para poder entenderlos, gracias.
Most of these just don't sound right to me. For example, it would seem more accurate if you rewrote the sentences like this: - I appreciate your coming TO here ("I appreciate you coming here " still sounds more accurate to me, because I still see "coming' as a verb, not a noun, but the way I rewrote it would be more "acceptable" to me). - He resents Mary's promotion; or "he resents the fact that Mary was promoted". ("Being" "promoted" still look live verbs to me). - I'm tired of Miguel's complaints. - I need to talk to you about your writing (Perfect, cause, in this case, I really can see "writing" as a noun). - Her dancing is beautiful (Perfect, same as the last one). I know that the way the professor taught in the video is the right way, but I still struggle to make sense of it in some cases.
This is a basic video explaining possessive gerunds but not helpful. It is a simple rule but the teacher hasn't stated the formality and use. What about informal alternatives to help learners?
Good luck
